What would the Oscars be without Jimmy Kimmel’s annual post-awards special? Well, they would still be the Oscars, of course, but we would be robbed of several hilarious spoofs starring seemingly every A-list actor. In 2012, there was “Movie the Movie” with Antonio Banderas, Edward Norton, Josh Brolin and George Clooney. In 2013, there was with “Movie the Movie 2V” with Angelina Jolie, Rachel Weisz, Jessica Chastain and Samuel L. Jackson. This year, Kimmel looked to top his previous efforts by releasing a series of parodies — four, to be exact — each based on famous YouTube videos.
The first one, inspired by the “Charlie Bit My Finger” clip, was about a brotherly rivalry between famous actor siblings Chris and Liam Hemsworth. Co-starring Meryl Streep (with a British accent) as their mother and Tom Hanks as a mysterious monk (just go with it), the film follows the story of Chris and his attempt to get revenge on Liam after he bit him as a child. The name of the movie? “Bitman Begins,” directed by Christopher Nolan.
Next up was Queen Latifah starring as Sweet Brown in “Sweet Brown: Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That.” Latifah stars as Brown, a woman who unintentionally changes the trajectory of history by inspiring Barack Obama (played by Barkhad Abdi) to run for president and Steve Jobs (played by future “Star Wars” villain Adam Driver) to name his company Apple. Basically, it was “Forrest Gump” for 2014 with the “ain’t nobody got time for that” lady. Favorite Jimmy Kimmel punching bag Matt Damon also makes an appearance — though sadly his scene ends up on the cutting room floor. (Bonus appearance by Sweet Brown herself.)
The third film was introduced by Anjelica Huston as a “screen portrayal of one of the most gifted musicians of all time.” That musician? Keyboard cat! The film — called “Ameowadeous” — stars Kevin Spacey as the cat, Christoph Waltz as the cat’s “most deadly enemy,” as well as Gary Oldman, Ben Kingsley and Mandy Patinkin as a group of older lords who look to help Keyboard Cat advance through the ranks of music history. Jimmy Kimmel makes an appearance as Dramatic Chipmunk and Abbie Cornish shows up as the love interest.
Andy Garcia introduced the fourth — and arguably best — film of the night, a project that “will open your eyes and your mind.” The movie follows Joseph Gordon Levitt as David After Dentist, as he looks to navigate the “awesome” world of being on drugs. That is until Samuel L. Jackson, playing an evil dentist, shows up looking to attack Gordon-Levitt with a gigantic syringe of novocaine. Directed by Baz Luhrmann and co-starring Catherine Zeta-Jones as an angel and Seth Rogen as the Double Rainbow Dude, make sure to keep an eye out for “David After Dentist Double Rainbow Oh My God in 3D.”
In addition to the YouTube movies, Kimmel made a few Twitter jokes, hammed it up with Kevin Spacey, and used the words” Benedict Cumberbatch” and “cumberbund” in the same sentence. Overall, it was another fun follow-up effort for the late-night host
