Why Sara Bareilles Is Grammys Sweetheart

While the size of her brave has yet to be determined, Sara Bareilles certainly showed us how big her adorable is on Grammy night. (Huge.)

To be fair, our 2014 Grammy love affair with Bareilles began the second she heard word of her nomination for Album of the Year, news that she told us she greeted by “screaming my face off.”

Yeah, just try not to be charmed by that one.

The “Brave” songstress navigated the evening, from red carpet to closing credits, with aplomb. Here are all the reasons she’s our Grammy crush this year.

Her Insta-Classic Instagram(mies)

Bareilles, 34, knows how to rock social media. She tweeted throughout the night, and began posting adorable Instagram pics (which, yes, should totally be referred to as Instagrammies) from the time she started getting ready in the morning.

We were with her from her first Dunkin’ run to her super-meta quasi-selfie, a snap of a TV playing the Grammys telecast (taken by none other than Ingrid Michaelson).

Red-Carpet Bravery

Bareilles oozed charm on the red carpet, sassing that “any time I’m asked to wear high heels” is “not a night off for Sara Bareilles,” and telling E! that the tiny braids she wore in her hair were inspired by Katniss Everdeen of “The Hunger Games” fame.

Appearances aside, Bareilles also stood tall when she brushed off talk of a rivalry with Katy Perry, whose hit song “Roar” sounds undeniably similar to “Brave.” Bareilles insisted that she was a fan of Perry’s.

A ‘Beautiful’ Performance

The singer’s biggest moment of the night, however, was performing and presenting alongside Tapestry songwriter Carole King, whom Bareilles called “the woman who has been such an inspiration to me.” The duo harmonized on a stripped-down mashup of Bareilles’ “Brave” with King’s “Beautiful,” then presented the Song of the Year award together. King herself won that Grammy in 1971 for “You’ve Got a Friend.” The 2014 iteration went to Lorde for the hit “Royals.”

She Tells It Like It Is

Toward the end of the night, after a mass wedding ceremony (!!!) during Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ performance of “Same Love,” Bareilles couldn’t resist grabbing her phone and tweeting what all the rest of the audience was thinking through their tears: “This s— cray.”

#!!! indeed.
