‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Teaser: Nine Secrets Revealed

Something big is happening in the mutant world on Monday — or so says “X-Men: Days of Future Past” director Bryan Singer.

Singer and the official “X-Men” movies’ Instagram account released a brief teaser video yesterday, hinting at larger things to come on Monday (January 27). The video features plenty of new footage from “Days of Future Past,” Singer’s first time wearing the director’s hat on an “X-Men” movie since “X2: X-Men United.” Here’s how it all breaks down:

• It begins with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, tied up and wrapped in white cloth, sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Can the seemingly immortal warrior drown? Looks like we’re about to find out.

• Next comes Michael Fassbender as young Magneto, imprisoned somewhere, dressed all in white and sitting in a meditative pose. It’s not an unfamiliar situation for the Master of Magnetism; imprisonment is all part of the game for the budding Brotherhood of Mutants leader.

• A quick glimpse of the future comes next, with new X-Men members Warpath (Booboo Stewart), Sunspot (Adan Canto) and Blink (Fan Bingbing) fighting an unknown enemy, their backs against each other.

• We’re treated to even more of Fassbender’s Magneto, this time with a side of Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. Here, Mystique pins Magneto against a wall, and the pose suggests either a heated lovers’ quarrel, or a heated debate between rivals. You be the judge.

• The White House comes under attack, with security guards accessing a secret hatch inside of the Oval Office. Whatever bad business is headed the X-Men’s way, looks like its reach goes all the way to the very top of the United States.

• After, we see even more of Lawrence as Mystique, dressed in plain clothes, staring straight ahead as people run all around her, panicked and horrified. Is she part of the plot against the White House?

• And there’s even more of Magneto, except this time, it’s original actor Ian McKellen in the role. The future version of Magneto stands side-by-side with an unlikely ally: Bobby “Iceman” Drake, played by returning actor Shawn Ashmore.

• What’s next? You guessed it: even more Magneto, once again played by Fassbender. Now he’s out of prison, armed with his traditional crimson helmet and cloak, staring up at something we can’t see.

• James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier gets the final shot of the teaser, reaching his hand out and focusing on something that’s out of sight. Whatever it is, it must be intense, based on the look on McAvoy’s face.

That’s a whopping total of nine new shots revealed in the “X-Men: Days of Future Past” teaser, all revealed in just a matter of seconds. If Singer and his team are able to pack that much goodness in just a handful of seconds, there’s no telling what’s in store when the curtain is pulled back even further next week.

Stay tuned to MTV News on Monday for Singer’s reveal of more “X-Men” action.
