Will Ariana Grande Time-Travel To The ’90s For ‘Baby I’ Video?

Ariana Grande is channeling mid-'90s R&B sweetness on her new single, but she tells MTV News that she's going for a more "sophisticated" vibe.

Full of Mariah Carey-esque vocal runs and shimmering production, the 20-year-old's latest tease off her album, Yours Truly, out September 3, certainly pays homage to the divas of that era. And, she says, it also shows off another side of her debut release.

"I feel like 'Baby I' is slightly more sophisticated," she told MTV News about her follow-up to the Mac Miller-assisted "And I wanted to take the opportunity while everyone was waiting to see what I was doing next to show them something different. And I think that it's different, a little more mature and I liked that."

Ariana Says Nathan Sykes 'Sang The Hell Out Of' Duet!

And, yes, she's more than aware that the song has a strong nostalgia vibe to it. "I love that. It felt like '90s, Aaliyah, Destiny's Child. I like that it has that throwback feeling to it," she added. "And that's when I grew up and it was such a feel-good song to me. And I love what it says. I love it's about loving somebody so much that you just don't know what to say. I think that's really cute. I laughed the first time I heard the lyrics. I like that I get to sing a little more on it... It's quirky."

The song is all about not being able to fully express how much you are crushing on that special someone. And, that's ...

Kanye’s Best Verse Rant: 2 Chainz Gives His Two Cents

Kanye West caused quite a stir when he tweeted that his second verse on "New Slaves" was king of all hip-hop verses, but his buddy 2 Chainz isn't up in arms — not in the least bit.

"Yeah. That's how he feels, man. He feels about it strongly," Chainz told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway. "As far as his rants and things of that nature, a lot of things that he does and says, at least when we're on the phone, I tell him, 'You have more money than me, so please. I think these things, but I can't say all these things.' "

On Saturday, Yeezy riled rap fans up when he tweeted: "I open the debate... The 2nd verse of New Slaves is the best rap verse of all time....meaning ... OF ALL TIME IN THE HISTORY OF RAP MUSIC, PERIOD."

A ton of fans disagreed and tossed out their own choices for greatest rap verse of all time, but Public Enemy frontman Chuck D. felt West presented a pretty tight case. "@kanyewest yup it's a lot to think about. Solid execution indeed," he tweeted in response to Kanye's original message.

It was a chest-pounding statement, one befitting someone as powerful as Kanye. "I think us as hip-hop people, we're kinda like superheroes in some people's eyes. You got different people playing different roles," Deuce theorized. "I'm sure 'Ye is his own superhero, I'm my own superhero. That's how we kinda kick it."

Not only are West and 2 Chainz rap heroes, they almost craft some pretty super business deals ...

Austin Mahone Ready For Next Acting Role After ‘Big Time Rush’ Cameo

Austin Mahone is ready for his close-up! And thanks to Big Time Rush, he's getting it. The VMA-nominated singer is slated to make a cameo on the season finale of BTR's Nick sitcom airing Thursday (July 25).

While he admitted his role wasn't challenging, he did get some on-the-job training from the foursome. "I had such a great experience filming with Big Time Rush. I play myself so it wasn't too difficult but it was my first time doing any sort of acting, so it was a little scary!" he told MTV News in a statement about the appearance.

"The guys and the crew were so awesome and made the shoot as easy as possible," he added. "It was a really fun thing to do and BTR even taught me some acting tricks so I'll be ready for my next role!"

In addition to a top hat-sporting Mahone, the special airing at 8 p.m. E.T. will also feature appearances from Nick Cannon, Alexa Vega, Karmin, Mindless Behavior and Fabio. "This episode is a fitting ending to season four," BTR's Kendall Schmidt added. "We always try to go big, and we worked hard to make a finale that will make a lasting impression."

Until Mahone pops up in another acting project, his schedule seems pretty jam-packed. He's up for an Artist to Watch, Presented by Taco Bell Moonman at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards for his Colin Tilley-directed video. This year's VMAs are taking place on August 25 live from the Barclays Center in ...

Amanda Bynes Headed For Conservatorship?

After watching months of erratic behavior
that drew concern from friends and fellow stars, Amanda Bynes' parents appear poised to step in and help their daughter get back on track.

Following Bynes' involuntary admission on Monday to a California hospital on a code 5150 72-hour involuntary psychiatric hold
, Lynn and Rick Bynes are reportedly due in court on Friday morning to request that a judge grant a temporary conservatorship. The legal maneuver, similar to what Britney Spears' father enacted
for the pop singer during a difficult stretch in her life in 2008, would allow the Bynes' to gain control over the 27-year-old actress' financial and personal affairs for 30 days, according to a report from E! News.

Read Everything We Know So Far About The Incident That Sent Bynes To The Hospital.

The move to conservatorship comes in light of a strange incident in Thousand Oaks, California, on Monday night when Bynes lit a fire
on the driveway of one of her parent's neighbors. Bynes was not arrested in the case and is not expected to be charged
. She reportedly set fire to a gas can, as well as her pants during the incident, which also resulted in her small dog getting doused with gasoline.

According to E!, if a judge grants the conservatorship, Bynes' parents will be legally in charge of her estate for as long as the court deems it necessary. Though the initial conservatorship would be for only 30 days, if probable cause is found to renew it, the conservatorship could be extended ...
