Kanye West Debuts New Yeezus Songs, Dismisses Radio At Governors Ball

NEW YORK -- Kanye West opened and closed his headlining set at the Governors Ball Music Festival on Sunday night (June 9) with the high octane Yeezus track and in between that he delivered everything from classics like "All Falls Down," to three brand new tracks from his upcoming sixth solo LP.

While Mr. West is known for his elaborate stage shows, which he displayed during performances of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy last year, the tone of this set was much darker and more intense than usual. During "Black Skinhead," the large stage screens flashed with images of ferocious barking dogs, "not for sale" signs and even menacing figures in black masks resembling KKK garb, as Kanye emerged in a studded black leather jacket and his all-red Air Yeezy 2's, wailing into the microphone and head banging through the song.

"New Slaves" followed with the same level of intensity but then things lightened up considerably with "Mercy." Since he had no guests in tow last night, Kanye simply delivered his own verse, before continuing to "Cold" and then performing a brand new song from Yeezus being billed as which has a very heavy electronic influence.

After playing an extended version of "Power" and taking a short break from the stage, the crowd took a pause from their "Yeezus" chants to sing happy birthday to Kanye instead, as he'd celebrated his 36th birthday the previous night (in the company of Nas and Jay-Z). When he returned to the spotlight, he relocated to another stage in ...

What Is Miley Cyrus Really Singing About On ‘We Can’t Stop’?

Miley Cyrus just wants to party on her new single, Released last week, the tune immediately became a viral hit, and after a few plays, it left some fans scratching their heads about some of its edgier lyrics.

On the track, the lead single off her highly anticipated 2013 album, one lyric has listeners wondering if the 20-year-old is singing "dancing with Molly" (a reference to the party drug Ecstasy) or "dancing with Miley" (a reference to, of course, herself). So, MTV News went straight to the song's producer, Mike Will Made It, for some clarification.

"It's whatever you take it," he explained. "If you want to dance with Molly, then you gonna enjoy the line 'Dancing with Molly.' You know what I'm saying? But whoever wants to dance with Miley, and whoever enjoys Miley Cyrus, then you know what I'm saying, then they're going to take it as 'Dancing with Miley.' So however y'all want to take it. It's not really for us to just really lay out. We just put the record out."

Miley Cyrus Works Hard, Parties Hard!

Whether she's singing about Miley or Molly on that particular line, another lyric — "And everyone in line in the bathroom/Trying to get a line in the bathroom" — has fans speculating if she's referencing cocaine.

"I mean it's a point-of-view record, so she never said that she was standing in the line in the bathroom, trying to get her line in the bathroom. She said everyone in line in the bathroom, trying to get a line in the bathroom," ...

‘Man Of Steel’: Young Clark Kent Dishes On His Super Role

"Man of Steel" marks Henry Cavill's first performance as Superman, but he's not the only actor playing that role in the new film. He shares the screen with Cooper Timberline and Dylan Sprayberry, who play Kal-El/ Clark Kent during the character's childhood in Smallville. And after small roles in films like "Land of the Lost" and "Old Dogs," Sprayberry shoulders an enormous responsibility in the film, shepherding the iconic character through some of the most difficult and important times of his life.

MTV News recently spoke to Sprayberry about his performance in "Man of Steel." Naturally gregarious and armed with a wit faster than a speeding bullet, the young actor discussed the process of landing the role and talked about the challenges — physical and emotional — of bringing such a famous character to life. And as the budding thespian begins to build a fanbase, he revealed his first challenge as a public figure — to get a Twitter account.

MTV: Tell me about the audition process. What was that like?

Dylan Sprayberry: I probably went in about four or five times for the audition and they were keeping everything really under wraps. They didn't want anyone to know what it was for, they wouldn't tell me anything. I did a monologue from "Stand By Me" ... [When] I got the third callback and I found out that it was going to be for Superman and then they started pairing me up with younger versions and that's when I met Zack and Deborah Snyder. I auditioned for the bully actually as ...

Russell Crowe Felt ‘Stuck’ In Spandex ‘Man Of Steel’ Costume

After more than two decades in the game, Russell Crowe has become well-known for not just the intensity of his performances but the preparation he undergoes for those performances. But in "Man of Steel," Crowe seemingly met his match as he geared up to play Superman's father Jor-El, thanks to a costume that he described as "one of the toughest he ever had to wear."

"The spandex in this thing is like four layers," Crowe told MTV News at the film's Los Angeles press day. "And then when you put the ceremonial robes on top and 40-pound leather cape and all of that sort of [stuff], it's fine if you're just standing there but when you have to jump around doing fight sequences and everything, it was a bit of a challenge."

Although Crowe was required to participate in some considerably physical sequences, including a fight scene with co-star Michael Shannon, who plays General Zod, the acclaimed actor suggested that the biggest obstacle in the costume was decidedly more mundane. "The main challenge is probably not being able to go to the bathroom for eight hours at a time," he confessed. "Once you're in your costume, you're stuck in it until lunchtime, because it was 20-25 minutes just to get out of it. So there was a lot of new and interesting things on this."

In "Man of Steel," Crowe provides the film's philosophical core: after sending Kal-El to Earth to save him, his "consciousness" nurtures his son through the moral and spiritual minefield of being a citizen of two ...

Gunplay Spits ‘From The Heart’ After Kicking Cocaine Addiction

Gunplay's drug-addicted past is no secret, but now that he's prepping his solo debut album, Living Legend, the Maybach Music spitter is clean, clear-headed and focused.

"I was on cocaine since, like, 10 years, 12 years, something like that. I wasn't junktified where I was stealing stuff and stuff like that, but it was my thing," he said when he appeared on "RapFix Live" on Wednesday. "I have a strong will. I quit cigarettes early this year, cold turkey. Whatever I put my mind to, whatever I wanna do, I'm strong like that. If I wanted to quit smoking refer — it's nothing."

Gun says his moment of clarity came several years ago and after a bit of self-reflection he decided to leave coke alone. "That happened Memorial [Day] Weekend 2008," he recalled. "I was on the beach, I was just goin' hard and just took my last blast and said, 'Man, I'm tired of my nose hurtin', tired of looking all drawed up."

But the Triple Cs standout is no stranger to trouble. Last year, Gunplay turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection to an April 2012 robbery. The charges have since been dropped and now Gun is working toward getting his album out; kicking his coke habit has helped him zero in on his music, he said.

"Within myself, I said if I really wanna get this money, if I really wanna take this serious and not let my family and friends down, let me go ahead and do the right thing. I took ...

Governors Ball ‘100 Happening’ Despite Threat Of Tropical Storm Andrea

Despite the threat of a possible fly-over by the remnants of Hurricane Andrea on Saturday, organizers of the Governors Ball Music Festivals on New York's Randall's Island say all systems are go for the event. The three-day festival featuring headlining sets from Kanye West, Kings of Leon and Guns N' Roses, kicked off on Friday (June 7) and runs through Sunday night.

A spokesperson for the event confirmed to MTV News that as of press time the show would go on, rain or shine, but said a staffer was not available to speak about the weather action plan. Spokespeople for the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and the Randall's Island Park Alliance did not return calls for comment at press time.

Current forecasts call for heavy rainfall, possible tornadoes and flooding in the New York area, according to weather.com, with tropical storm force winds expanding more than 200 miles from the center of the storm, which is expected to weaken as it moves up the East Coast through Saturday morning. By the time it hits the New York area, Andrea's winds are predicted to drop below 50 m.p.h., but the threat of coastal flooding remains due to an expected 3-4 inches of precipitation.

Among the headlining acts whose sets could be impacted on Saturday are Guns N' Roses (who played ...

Eminem, Big Sean Brew Their ‘Similar Tales’ Into A ‘Detroit Classic’

Big Sean graduates to the Hall of Fame on his upcoming sophomore album, and one of the privileges that follows major career progress is earning the opportunity to record with the artists you idolized growing up. Sean got that chance when he hit the studio with hometown hero Eminem in April, only to find out that he and Shady had a lot in common.

Sean told MTV News that, at this point, it's to be determined whether the song will end up on his own project, Eminem's upcoming eighth album or neither. But one thing's for sure: "Big Sean and Eminem? It's gotta be a Detroit classic."

The G.O.O.D. Music rapper is confident that the collaboration will be one for the history books, but it wasn't only the music that made their recording session a memorable one. "Being in the studio, I just remembered when my mom bought me his [first] album from Costco or something a long-ass time ago, so you could just imagine going from that moment — being a lil-ass boy — then fast forwarding 20 years later and being in the studio with him," he explained.

"We talked for a few hours before we even worked on music. I was telling him my stories about how we were performing all around downtown Detroit and [it turned out that] he was performing in the same places."

Though Sean is still early in his career compared to Eminem's decade-plus run, the two found that they'd already shared many similar experiences. "It was funny because every story I told ...

Mac Miller, Most Dope Crew Pray For DJ Clockwork’s Funny Raps: Watch Now!

Maybe Mac Miller needs to have just a little more faith in his Most Dope team — after all; he isn't the only one with rap talent.

In a special unreleased clip from MTV2's Mac leads a prayer circle with Q, Dave, Peanut, Jimmy and DJ Clockwork, praying that Clock comes up with a suitable rhyme for a song that they were working on.

"Dear God, thank you for bringing us all here today in good health and good spirits," Mac said to start the prayer. "Please allow Clock to come up with something interesting. Please allow him to go in there and really, really put his soul into this song."

"It was a Most Dope song that Mac was producing and then we all rapped over it. They were all praying that I would have a good verse," Clock told MTV News of the clip that was just released on MacMiller.MTV.com. "It's all just us cutting up, having a good time. Fun rap, it ain't no crazy sh--. They're always just cuttin' up on me and sh--."

Ultimately, Clock says that he laid the verse on the unreleased song and it met Mac's high stands. Since then, the DJ has continued to dabble in rap. Back in March, Clock, Jimmy and Peanut dropped their first comedic mixtape as the Duck Hunters. The Duck Butter Vol.1 tape consists of eight goofy tracks. On Monday, they came out with the video for "Scoter (Wetwalls)," a filthy ode to sex.

Alley Boy’s New Mixtape Is A War Cry From The Streets

Alley Boy specializes in street music, and it doesn't seem the Atlanta rhyme-dealer will switch up much. If you were wondering what you can expect from his latest War Cry tape, all you have to do is revisit Alley's underground discography, which includes works like the raw N---anati, and the uncut Purgatory.

"This just a continuation for all the Alley Boy fans," he told Mixtape Daily about War Cry, which was released online for free Monday.

Before Alley fully gets on his mission, he reminds listeners of his discography on the tape's "Intro": "Dropped Purgatory, street classic/ Alley Boy just getting started/ Definition Pt. 2, we might torture who raised you," he rhymes in his distinct Southern drawl.

During the course of the tape, the Duct Tape Entertainment standout remains confrontational. On "Hate in Dey Face," he goes directly at those who dis him behind his back, but greet him with smiles. On "Mama's House," he links up with his DTE partner Trouble and threatens to bring the drama straight to his adversaries, even if it means camping out in front of their mother's home. "I'ma pull on ya mama, bird ass/ I heard you changed your whole number/ This n---a wanna hide the whole summer/ Green ass n---a, you sorry, you're a cucumber," he flows.

It isn't all murderous, however. On "I'm That," Alley Boy recruits Kirko Bangz to give him a radio-ready Auto-Tuned hook over a choice Key Wane beat, and then he gets introspective and emotional on "Love You," which draws inspiration from Alex Clare's hit "Too Close." ...
