Get Up Close With The Drake Vs. Lil Wayne Tour In The ‘Grindin’ Video

by 17 mins ago

Lil Wayne and Drake have been on the road on their joint tour for over a month now, and they’ve probably spent a bunch of time hanging out, maybe skateboarding, and hopefully recording music. We now also know one of the other things they used that time for: Shooting a music video.

Their new “Grindin” visuals, which dropped on Friday (September 19), follow the two rap stars on stage and backstage during the Drake Vs. Lil Wayne Tour, which kicked off in early August.

The Scoob Doo-directed clip is for one of Tunechi’s recent singles off of Tha Carter V, which is set to hit stores on October 28.

Lecrae Calls His #1 Album A Case Of ‘David And Goliath’

by 3 mins ago

Lecrae has been building a fervent fanbase for over a decade, with a Grammy and a few #1 Gospel albums under his belt. With his latest, though, Anomaly, which dropped earlier this month, he reached a new pinnacle: The #1 album in the country, topping the Billboard 200.

“I was definitely excited,” Lecrae told MTV News on Friday (September 19). “But I was excited more because it’s almost like a David and Goliath type of situation, where you have a real, real indie artist, independent label. And it caused people to think, and question, and wrestle with why and how and what it’s all attributed to. I like that it caused a little commotion in the industry, and hopefully it will push people to really get back to making dope music, being real, being authentic and communicating what’s on their heart.”

As he’s continued to gain more mainstream recognition in recent years, the Houston-born rapper has earned followers that come to him for his technical rapping ability as much as for his Christian-based content.

“I think this was an album that, musically, people didn’t argue with; they didn’t push back on it,” he says of reconciling the multiple sides of himself and his fans. “Obviously, there are a couple tracks that were catered to a more contemporary Christian audience, and that’s a demographic that I understand, that I know probably an urban or hip-hop listener probably is just like scratching their head at.

“But think, overall, they’re like, ‘OK. ...

August Alsina Wakes From Three-Day Coma After Fainting On Concert Stage

by 23 mins ago

When August Alsina collapsed on stage at a show in New York City earlier this week, it looked bad. But it wasn’t clear exactly what happened to the singer following that incident until Friday (September 19).

This morning, the New Orleans native posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed, saying he had just woken up from a three-day coma. In the caption, he said he’s on the road to recovery:

This is a bit graphic but i wanted to share this w/ every follower of mine. iWoke up out of a 3 day coma… &This guy @banggang_moneyteam right here never once left my side. What I’m tryna say is cherish the ones in life who cherish you & take good care of yourself. Your life can be gone in a split second’. I’m recovering well and thankyou for all of your prayers & concerns. -Yung

His Cincinnati concert was cancelled the day after the initial incident; he currently has shows scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, in Indianapolis, South Bend and Kansas City, respectively, but it seems unlikely he’ll perform.

MTV News has reached out to reps for Alsina and is awaiting comment.

Nicki Minaj Will Be ‘Controlling’ Trey Songz In ‘Touchin, Lovin’ Video

by 13 mins ago

When Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj teamed up for “Touchin, Lovin,” from the R&B singer’s recent album Trigga, we got exactly what we expected: a dope collaboration. But it sounds like what the video will offer is a bit unexpected.

“We actually have an extra surprise in the video, where there’s an interactive feature,” Trey told MTV News recently when we visited him on set. “I know my fans are very engaged on the computer and very much social savvy, so when we give them options to watch the video, I’m sure they’ll watch it probably 20 times when you realize you can go this way, that way, this way.”

It sounds like a concept that we haven’t really seen before in a music video, and the clip’s director, Jason Zada, thinks it’ll be something that fans love.

“This idea of all your fantasy choices available to you at any point in time, it was kind of this really great way of sort of personifying all these fantasies that we all have floating around in our heads,” he said.

And while we don’t see Nicki in these behind-the-scenes shots, she will definitely be in the video — playing a special role.

“Nicki’s playing the dominant figure,” Trey added. “She’s basically controlling my dreams. And each portion of what you see is what it is she wants to happen.”

When the two first collaborated four years ago, they delivered “Bottoms Up,” a track that jumped to #1 on the Billboard ...

This Lyric Video Will Help You Keep Up With Eminem On ‘Guts Over Fear’

by 7 mins ago

As Eminem has proven time and again, he’s one of the best lyricists of all-time. And whether he’s singing, like he did back on “Hallie’s Song,” or rapping at a frenetic — and, at times, nearly indecipherable — pace, like he did on “Rap God,” his words are worth catching.

He made that process a lot easier on Thursday (September 18), with the release of a lyric video for his latest single, “Guts Over Fear,” featuring Sia.

Though it’s not Em at his toughest to keep up with, the track does get a bit of a new life when the rhymes can come off the page (or, actually, the screen), like they do here. Navigating an animated cityscape, the Detroit native’s syllables bounce, bend and float, crossing streets and scaling buildings.

The song was not only included in the trailer to the new Denzel Washington film “The Equalizer,” but it also serves as the lead single for the upcoming Shady Record album, Shady XV, which is due out on November 24.

Freeway Says A Roc-A-Fella Reunion Is ‘Definitely A Possibility’

by 29 mins ago

When we asked Jay Z for a Roc-A-Fella reunion last month, we knew it was a long shot. But the chances that the crew gets back together might be better than we hoped.

“It’s definitely a possibility,” former Roc member Freeway said during a visit to “Sway in the Morning,” while promoting his new collaborative album, Highway Robbery, alongside the Jacka. “Me, myself, I’m trying to make it happen to the best of my abilities.”

Free wanting to make it happen is a great start, but there are plenty of other moving pieces — notably, Jay Z, who’s the biggest star and the co-founder of the label. And though he’s no longer signed to Hov, the Philly rapper says that the two still speak. “Jay the big homie,” he said. “Of course [we talk].”

In addition to those two, the reunion would ideally include guys like Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, State Property, Memphis Bleek, Cam’ron and the Diplomats.

So, don’t hold your breath — but don’t give up hope yet, either.

“It’s talked about right now,” Free said. “Insha’Allah it’ll work out.”

You’ve Never Heard Chief Keef Like This: Listen To ‘Wait’

by 22 mins ago

When you think of a Chief Keef song, you think of a certain sound. There’s usually hard, percussive beats, with booming bass. There’s usually some sort of chant-like chorus that’s frustratingly catchy. And there’s always the Chicago native’s brooding voice guiding the track.

Keef’s latest song, “Wait,” has some of that — but there’s one major difference: His voice is higher-pitched and faster than anything we’ve heard before.

That’s because the song, which the “Don’t Like” rapper released on YouTube and produced himself, is sped-up, giving it a rare sonic quality (in the YouTube post, Keef wrote that the song was “speeded”).

There’s still no date on his new album, Bang 3, so for now, we’ll have to wait. And listen to “Wait.”

Iggy Azalea Is Suing An Ex-Boyfriend Over Leaked Songs

by 23 mins ago

Iggy Azalea is heading to court over some leaks, and no, it has nothing to do with the rumored sex tape. This lawsuit centers on songs that she says were leaked without her permission.

The “He Ain’t Goin’” rapper filed the case in California court on Wednesday (September 17), according to The Hollywood Reporter. There are a total of nine complaints in the suit, including copyright infringement.

She names multiple defendants, including Maurice Williams, also known as Jefe Wine, who in recent days has made claims that he is in possession of the aforementioned alleged sex tape, as well as a contract that allows him to sell it. Although these items are not explicitly referenced in the complaint, there is a mention of “promotional videos featuring an impersonator of Azalea.”

Iggy’s music is at the heart of this case, specifically a handful of songs that she says she recorded — pre-fame, in 2008 — on her personal computer that were stolen and then released by Williams. There’s also a claim about a forged contract.

The “Fancy” rapper is looking to be repaid in a number of ways, notably with “compensatory damages plus interest at the legal rate.”

Is Kendrick Lamar Sending A Message To Gangs With New Single ‘i’? See The Cover Art

by 4 mins ago

“If Pirus and Crips all got along,” Kendrick Lamar rapped in the opening line of his 2012 track “m.A.A.d City,” offering a scenario that sounded implausible to many, after years of violence between the two gangs. But maybe he’s working towards a peace.

Kendrick released the cover art for his highly-anticipated new single, called “i,” on Wednesday (September 17), and it features the lower body of a man dressed in blue on the left, and one dressed in red on the right. The colors evoke thoughts of gang affiliation — particularly since K. Dot has frequently rapped about the gang violence he witnessed growing up, like on “m.A.A.d. City” — but the signs the two men are throwing aren’t gang-affiliated; they’re hearts.

What could this mean for the track?

Of course, all we can do is speculate, but maybe the Compton native is trying to unite otherwise-splintered factions of Los Angeles with his new music. Could it be an anti-violence anthem? Maybe it’s a love song. Probably not, but who knows.

There’s a good chance we won’t have to wait too long to find out, though. There’s speculation that the single, which is produced by Rahki (who did bonus track “Black Boy Fly” off of good kid, m.A.A.d city) is supposed to drop next week. That’s a pretty good sign that a new album should be on the way.

Lupe Fiasco Definitely Doesn’t Dumb It Down On His New Song: Listen To ‘Pu$$y’

by 19 mins ago

You should probably stop whatever else you’re doing. If you don’t, it’ll be hard to keep up with the rhymes Lupe Fiasco delivers on his new song, “Pu$$y.”

Actually, even if you’re sitting in a room by yourself, with the lights off, and nothing but a computer or phone to play this song on, it still might be tough to keep up. But do your best.

The four-and-a-half minute lyrical exercise dropped on Wednesday (September 17), with production by MoeZ’art and Billy Blue on the hook. And while both of them definitely do their thing, this one is about Lupe’s dizzying raps.

Safe to say, he’s back on his “Super Lupe Rap” here, with no plans to “Dumb It Down.”

The Chicago native’s fifth album, Tetsuo & Youth, is still on the way.
