Taylor Swift Does Ed Sheeran’s Makeup During Their VMA Pre-Party

by 29 mins ago

Taylor Swift already teased us with a snap of a sparkle-ecrusted microphone pre-MTV Video Music Awards. Now, she’s giving us a glimpse at her pre-show prep — a routine that apparently involved lots of cuddles with her cat and a makeup session with her BFF.

Taylor Swift, she’s just like you (assuming you are a girl who has ever prepared for a school dance) — except her cat glows with the glory of a 1,000 angels and her BFF is Ed Sheeran.

“These are our #VMAs game faces,” Swift wrote, throwing up an adorable snap of her and her cat Olivia Benson mugging for the camera. Where’s Meredith, Tay?! Doesn’t she get get any shine?

Benson was soon dumped in favor of VMA prep, however, as Swift shared a photo soon after of her playing makeup artist for Ed Sheeran, one of her many, many BFFs. We’re guessing they’re getting some quality hang-out time in before the big night, seeing as how they’re not sitting next to each other (travesty!).

How are you preparing for the VMAs?

Fifth Harmony And Lucy Hale: VMA BFFs?

by 25 mins ago

The MTV Video Music Awards don’t just honor excellence in music videos — they also bring people together. Like in summer camp. But with real bling instead of macaroni and lanyards. The first collection of BFFs to be formed this VMA weekend? We’re going to have to hazard a guess it’s pre-show performers Fifth Harmony and pre-show host Lucy Hale.

Just look at this photo that the “Pretty Little Liars” star snapped with the girl group Saturday (August 23). “Obsessed,” she writes in the caption, a state we achieved long before the “Miss Movin’ On” singers finally told us that their debut album, Reflection, was on its way come November 17.

I hope this gaggle of ladies KIT after the VMAs on Sunday.

We’re Crazy In Love With Beyonce’s Flashback Roller Rink Birthday Invite

by 15 mins ago

Feeling 22 is cool and all, Taylor, but I think I’d rather dial it back down to 21 if it means looking anything like Beyoncé in this throwback shot of what seem to be some kind of roller-rink birthday invite from Bey’s yesteryear.

‘Yonce shared the below snap to Instagram Friday — forget #TBT, Queen Bey does what Queen Bey wants — featuring a 21-year-old Beyoncé Knowles kitted out like some kind of ’80s skate siren.

“Flashback My 21st birthday invitation. 80′s Skate party in ATL Good times!,” the caption reads, which seems appropriate because if you were cognizant during the ’80s you probably had one or two b’days in the roller rink. We’re guessing Bey’s 21st affair didn’t feature an animatronic animal band and sheet cake, though. Just a hunch.

See you Sunday at The Forum, Bey! Maybe bring those skates for when you hit the stage at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards?

Taylor Swift Is ‘Hyperventilating’ Over This ‘Shake It Off’ Flash Mob

by 12 mins ago

If Taylor Swift was hoping to inspire fans with her new single, “Shake It Off,” and its accompanying dance-packed video, she’s apparently succeeded. The jam hasn’t even been out a week yet, and already it’s spurred folks to shake it off via flip-replete flash mobs in fast food joints. And Taylor? She couldn’t be more pleased.

“So @markromanek just sent me this and I’m hyperventilating with joy over it. Thank you, Dimensions Dance,” Swift tweeted, referring to “Shake It Off” director Mark Romanek. Looks like you need our emojis, lady.

The video she shared features a retelling, of sorts, of the original video: a.k.a. a ton of skilled dancers leaping around as a befuddled blonde girl joins in, dancing with wild abandon. In characteristic flash mob style, however, the performance takes place in front of an unsuspecting crowd at a Cane’s Chicken in Lewisville, Texas. Cue the slightly off-beat clap-along.

Perhaps Swift can take some inspiration from this troupe’s rendition and stage an impromptu flash mob at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday, when she performs onstage at The Forum? Thank about it, Tay.

Lady Gaga Shares A New Tune — Naked

by 36 mins ago

I don’t know about you all, but every shower in my house is accompanied by copious bouts of singing. In that way, Lady Gaga and I are basically the same person — except that when she sings in the bathtub it’s along to her own upcoming collaboration with Tony Bennett. I usually just scream along with the voices in my head.

Gaga posted a duo of videos to Instagram Friday in which she lip-syncs along to “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered,” a bonus track on the Target deluxe version of her album of jazz standards, Cheek To Cheek, due out September 23. The tune was originally composed for the 1940 Rodgers and Hart musical “Pal Joey.”

The record also features classics like Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes,” Duke Ellington and Irving Mills’ “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),” and, of course, Irving Berlin’s “Cheek To Cheek.” Gaga dropped a single from the record, “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” — which has been performed by the likes of Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald — this past week.

We hope Gaga gets back in the tub soon, because we’re seriously itching to hear some new tunes — aside from the ones reverberating all around our own shower walls. You sound much better, Stefani — believe me.

These Taylor Swift Emojis Are The Perfect Way To ‘Shake It Off’

by 2 mins ago

Judging by fans’ reaction to Taylor Swift‘s new song “Shake It Off” — and accompanying dance video — we’re guessing you all will completely lose it when she hits the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards stage this Sunday.

I mean, if you’ve seen our post on the 61 times she basically slayed in the past, you’ll know that Swift will pull out all the proverbial stops when she performs… whatever is she’s planning to perform on August 24 (“I Knew You Were Trouble”? “Shake It Off”? The possibilities for Taylor-dancing are nearly endless).

Given fans’ impending muteness, we’ve compiled a handy set of emojis that one may whip out during the show in order to convey any and all Swift-i-fied emotions during her performance — or for when she does something particularly Taylor-like in the audience.

We’re guessing you’ll get the most use out of the weeping Taylor one — in a good way.

Bo$$ Move: Fifth Harmony Changed Their Album Art For The Fans

by 10 mins ago

They have yet to win a VMA (they’re nominated!), but Fifth Harmony certainly win the award for most fan-centric pop stars ever. After fans expressed less than excited emotions over the quintet’s album art for Reflection, the girls decided to change it up.

“Y’all spoke. We heard. We agreed. #5HNEWReflection,” AllyBrooke Hernandez tweeted Friday (August 22), along with a black and white photo of the ladies in fedoras.

VMA pre-show performers Fifth Harmony previously unveiled the artwork for the record last week, a splashier, more brightly colored affair featuring the ladies strutting side-by-side. Judging by Hernandez’ tweet, though, the fans didn’t think the art was a Bo$$ move.

After the girls revealed the new art, however, it seems Harmonizers are singing a different tune. “What other artist do you know that would change their album cover because the fans don’t like it? That’s why Fifth Harmony are the best,” tweeted one fan, while another opined, “THIS IS WHY FIFTH HARMONY IS MY FAVORITE! LIKE WHO CHANGES THEIR ALBUM COVER BECAUSE THE FANS DONT LIKE IT??”

Cool, ladies — now can we get a release date for that sucker?

What do you think of the change? Did it do them good?

Whatever Dudes, Ashton Irwin Is My 5SOS Dream Date, And That’s That

by 3 mins ago

My esteemed colleagues at MTV News have been pretty busy opining — via that most journalistic of forms, the GIF — which member of 5 Seconds Of Summer they would like to escort to the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday. Passions have been running high, my friends. HIGH.

I have no qualms with their choices — none at all. I’m a way-chilled cucumber over here, dudes. Extoll the virtues of Calum, Luke and Michael all you like, my friends! Extoll away! That leaves more Ashton Irwin for me. Everyone knows that drummers are the hottest members of any given band — and, apparently, the smartest. Keep those guitar-slingers and whatnot for yourselves; he and I can play the Bo Diddley beat all night long — with our heartbeats.

I don’t need to tell you, oh, 5SOS Family, why Ashton would be the ideal man to walk me down the aisle — I mean, red carpet (wearing matching band Ts, of course). But it’s pretty fun to look at GIFs of him smiling so let’s do that for a while, shall we?

OK, here’s why Ashton Irwin would be the perfect 5SOS member to take me to the VMAs.

He plays the drums, which everyone knows means he’s way energetic and would be able to dance the night away — Taylor Swift-style

He likes Nirvana and so do I. We could totally sing the entirety of Bleach in the limo on the way ...

If You Watch One More Ice Bucket Challenge Video, It Should Be This One

by 10 mins ago

Our social feeds over the past week or so have been a veritable carnival of celebrities taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge — pop stars, former presidents and actors gleefully dumping freezing water over their heads in the name of fighting Lou Gehrig’s disease.

By now, you might be a bit sick of all the fanfare, but if you watch one more ice bucket video this week, you should probably watch Anthony Carbajal’s.

26-year-old Carbajal’s contribution to the trend begins with disarming silliness — the man cavorts around in a bikini, writhes on a car, and sports a pair of pink booty shorts bearing the words, “Kiss My ALS.”

That’s right, MY ALS.

The bizarre hilarity of the first section of the video belies what’s to come, which is a heartbreaking speech by the young man about the horrors of the disease, which killed his grandmother, afflicted his mother and, recently, took hold in Carbajal himself.

Carbajal is already suffering from the effects of ALS — having trouble starting his car and buttoning his shirt. “Eventually I won’t be able to use my arms or hands at all. Eventually I won’t be able to walk, talk and breathe on my own,” he says in the video. “That’s the real truth of what ALS is. It’s devastating. It’s costly … I apologize for my rant and my tears, but if I don’t — if I simply dump ice on my head I don’t think you’re really going to get the ...

Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj And Jessie J Have Our Hearts Bang-Banging With These VMA Rehearsal Snaps

by 23 mins ago

Judging by the videos for Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” and Ariana Grande’s “Break Free,” and that teaser we saw for Jessie J‘s “Bang Bang,” the first-ever performance of the latter — featuring those three ladies — is primed to be bonkers.

We still don’t know what that Bang-Bang-rific experience, which will take place Sunday during the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, will entail, but the singers teased us last night with a passel of rehearsal snaps and tweets.

Jessie J — after announcing the impending release of her third album Sweet Talker — took to Instagram Thursday to share a photo of her and Grande duck-facing in the midst of their “Bang Bang” rehearsal.

Grande, for her part, simply tweeted, “vma rehearsal @jessiej @nickiminaj,” with a purple heart, to which Minaj answered, “Bye my little lady bugs!!!! Had so much fun with yall,” followed by a slew of kissy-faced emojis.

Consider our curiosity more than peaked — even though the ladies gave us scant few clues as to what Sunday’s performance will entail. In the meantime, we’re just going to continue to imagine these dancing cats bang-banging into the room.
