Demi Lovato Danced To ‘Pony’ With A Real Pony: Watch

by 27 mins ago

There are many things to be said about Demi Lovato. She’s an amazing singer. An inspiration. She really, really believes in ghosts. But on Thursday (August 21), friends, we were left speechless by the lady that makes the Lovatics scream. Why, you might ask, have we been rendered without words? Two of those really quick: Ginuwine. Pony.

Oh, yes.

Not only did Demi groove to the dancefloor classic, she did so with a real tiny horse! OK, that’s it — we’re out of letter clusters. Just watch.

This Photo Of 10-Year-Old Kanye Eating Chinese Food In China Is Adorable

by 18 mins ago

A picture emerged this week of Kanye West eating Chinese food. Doesn’t seem that interesting? Oh, wait, I forgot to mention that he was eating said food in China. At age 10. With chopsticks. In what appears to be a vest. With a very serious Kanye-like expression on his face. Oh, now you want to see it.

The photo popped up on reddit Wednesday, and it’s a snapshot that appears to come from the period of time when Ye lived in China with his mother, Donda, when she was a visiting professor at Nanjing University.

This is the second photo to crop up of young Yeezy in China, the first being a shot of a tween ‘Ye posing on a bridge in a Canadian tuxedo (denim-on-denim), proving he was a fashion icon at all ages.

We wonder what kind of food Lil ‘Ye is chowing down on in the latest snap? Maybe it’s the same dish he ordered during his one-day jail stint back in 2008, when he used his one phone call to ring up Mr. Chow’s? Whatever it is, the focus on his face while brandishing those chopsticks portends big things to come …

WCW: This Woman Is Rescuing Latina Identity From The Tumblr Porn Abyss

by 1 min ago

It’s Woman Crush Wednesday, where we honor the women we want to be best friends with/be mentored by — or just be. Allow us to introduce you to this week’s lady of the entirety of this 24 hours…

Name: Xochilt Montaño

So why should we care about this lady? She started an awesome movement on Tumblr — along with four friends — to reclaim Latina identity. The whole thing is called Reclaiming the Latina Tag.

That’s pretty cool. Why did she want to reclaim the tag, though? What does that mean? Well, back in 2012 Xochilt was cruising through the #Latina tag and it was all, uh, porn.

Um. What? That’s really weird. I know! And did you know Latinas are also more likely to characterized as hyper-sexualized in movies, too?

What?! I mean, that’s a story for another day (literally, we wrote about it), but that ties in as well, since women were — and are — basically being made into fetishized objects on Tumblr.

So how does this whole thing work? Well, Xochilt decided to take back the tag, she told Buzzfeed, by uploading selfies. She thinks the selfie is an “act of resistance.” Those photos are often also captioned with info about the selfie-taker, flooding the #Latina feed with real women — not pornified snaps.

Wow! How do people react to that? Sadly, some people end up fetishizing the selfies as well, but Xochilt and Co. just block those guys. “It’s pretty tiring having ...

by 23 mins ago

A magician might not be likely to reveal his/her tricks, but a music-ian, on the other hand… OK Go gave MTV News an exclusive peek at everything that went into their truly magical video for “The Writing’s On The Wall,” and now you, too, can parse every section of the optical illusion-packed affair.

OK Go are true masters of the music video, but their most recent effort just might take the cake: it was filmed all in one continuous take and includes scores of tricks of the eye that likely left the millions of people who viewed it scratching their heads. Jessie J, Ariana Grande And Nicki Minaj Will Perform ‘Bang Bang’ At The 2014 VMAs — These Cats Are Already Dancing

by 33 mins ago

We’re primed to announce yet another 2014 MTV Video Music Awards performer — and this one’s a triple threat. Here’s a hint: She’s ready to “bang, bang into the room” and open the whole show.

Yup, Jessie J will be performing at the VMAs on Sunday, August 24 — joined by “Bang Bang” co-stars Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande — who are already slated to perform. And, get this, the trio’s performance of the hit song will be the first time ever. The Forum in Inglewood, California, may well explode.

Fresh off the “Bang Bang” video shoot earlier this month — an experience Jessie told MTV News was “hugely nerve-wracking, but exciting” — Jessie, Ariana and Nicki will be together again on the VMA stage, along with performers like Sam Smith, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.

Newly announced presenters include Gwen Stefani and Kim Kardashian.

And to make matters even more exciting, the music video for “Bang Bang” will premiere immediately after at BangBang.mtv.com.

To celebrate the British songstress’ impending stage domination (and the video’s drop, because we just can’t wait for that), we compiled some dance moves to bust out while listening to “Bang Bang” below — via cat GIFS (because why not?). Study up for VMA night!

Do You Think Catcalling Is Flattering? Our Favorite Feminist Responds

by 22 mins ago

If you’re a woman who has walked down a street at some point in your life, it’s likely that you have been catcalled — as in a completely strange man has yelled something unsolicited and unwelcome about your appearance as you strolled to the bus/exited a store/discussed your cat’s persistent vomiting on your cell with your mom (true story).

For a lot of women, these kinds of objectifying occurrences are unwanted — even scary sometimes — but for one New York Post writer, they’re flattering. In fact, she finds them so empowering that she thinks women should just “deal with it.”

16 Celebs Who Aren’t Afraid To Call Themselves Feminists

“When I know I’m looking good, I brazenly walk past a construction site, anticipating that whistle and ‘Hey, mama!’ catcall. Works every time — my ego and I can’t fit through the door!,” Doree Lewak wrote in an essay published this week, adding, “Oh, don’t go rolling those sanctimonious eyes at me, young women of Vassar: I may court catcalls, but I hold my head high. Enjoying male attention doesn’t make you a traitor to your gender.”

Lewak’s statements are as bold as her strut, so it’s no surprise that some denizens of the Internet didn’t exactly agree with her sentiments regarding street harassment, taking to Twitter to voice their frustrations.

In light of the digital dustup, we asked Roxane Gay, our favorite feminist and author of “Bad Feminist,” for her take. Check it out below and voice your ...

Learn How To Shake It Off Like Taylor Swift In Just 12 GIFs

by 19 mins ago

We’ve been a fan of Taylor Swift dancing like no one was watching for a while now, but on Monday, the 24-year-old musician finally brought her moves to the spotlight — in the form of her video for new single “Shake It Off.”

Via her Yahoo!-hosted live stream, Swift revealed not only the title of her upcoming record — 1989, due out October 27 — she also premiered the first single and its accompanying video. The clip is directed by Mark Romanek and features Taylor grooving with a myriad of dancers, all the while singing about shaking off the haters.

In introducing the vid, Tay joked (we think), “All I think about are metaphors and cats,” before explaining that she and Romanek chose this creative direction because “you can tell who someone is by the way they dance.”

That you can, Taylor. For example, we can tell you’re a free spirit, swaddled in rainbows, just itching to feel the sun break across your beaming face. And, dear Tay, we want to dance just like you, which is why we’ve deconstructed your moves below so that any and all hoofers can bust out your soul-soothing moves.

1.) Get into the right headspace

ballerina

In order to truly let go like Taylor, one must get into the appropriate frame of mind. Here, we imagine Tay dreaming of sundresses, galloping unicorns and falling, giggling, into a sea of kittens that have forgotten that they have claws.

2.) Commit to those hand gestures

Miley Cyrus And Britney Spears Take The Ice Bucket Challenge — Who Did It Better?

by 29 mins ago

One perk of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is getting to watch our favorite stars be reduced to shrieking, shaking, wet dogs of human beings as they help to raise awareness and money to fight Lou Gehrig’s Disease. So when we saw Britney and Miley‘s Ice Bucket videos, “one of these things is not like the others” danced through our heads.

The two pop stars took the challenge this week: Spears accepting after being nominated by her sister Jamie Lynn, and Miley taking up the mantle passed to her by her dad, Billy Ray.

Brit’s video is a thing of beauty. After nominating Adam Sandler, her boyfriend David Lucado and business manager Robin Greenhill, the “Perfume” singer shrieks — before the water even hits her head — shuffling off-screen after the downpour as what sounds like an expletive bursts from her lips. We could watch this little vid all day.

Miley, however, dumped a bucket of rice over her head — along with brother Braison. Yes, “rice.” With an “r.” The whole thing looked kind of like an enjoyable spa treatment of sorts. Still, the caption of the photo highlighted the importance of the cause: “#makeshithappen #donate #itaintaboutthepourinitsaboutthepayinandawareness http://www.alsa.org/”

Which pop star’s video do you prefer? Brit’s ice — or Miley’s rice?

Sam Smith Is Performing At The 2014 VMAs And Tears Are Unavoidable

by 27 mins ago

The MTV Video Music Awards are a night of many moods — joy! hilarity! drama! Our amazing roster of performers announced so far cover all those bases, and today (August 19), we’re primed to bring yet another emotion to the table: weeping, beautiful, glorious sorrow, courtesy of Sam Smith.

That’s right, the The Lonely Hour singer will join Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and more live onstage at the Forum in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, August 24.

As if the Artist To Watch/Best Male Video nominee’s impending performance weren’t exciting enough, we’ve also got word that a few more superstars will be hitting the stage: namely, a presenters’ list that includes Lorde, Demi Lovato, Taylor Schilling, Laverne Cox and Uzo Aduba from the cast of “Orange Is the New Black,” Dylan O’Brien from the forthcoming “Maze Runner” movie and “Teen Wolf,” “Vampire Diaries’” star Nina Dobrev, Jason Derulo and Trey Songz.

DJ Mustard will also be holding it down between sets as our house DJ.

But in order to embrace the tears that we’ll all undoubtedly shed come Sunday, we’ve compiled Sam’s nine most weep-worthy lyrics. Bathe your cheeks in saltwater now as training for the impending flood.

1.) ‘Although you made my heart sing, to stay with you would be wrong,’ ‘Good Thing’

2.) ‘And deep down I know this never works/ But you can lay with me so it doesn’t hurt,’ ‘Stay With ...

The Onion Thinks Facebook’s Proposed ‘Satire’ Tag Is For ‘Dipsh–’s

by 1 min ago

Everyone has that one Facebook friend — you know the one. The one that sends us into giggling fits of superiority when s/he unintentionally posts articles from The Onion to Facebook as if they were fact.

“This is a movie for children!” they rage, linking to an article about the Ninja Turtles’ CGI-spun genitals. SMH, am I right?

Well, now those poor souls could be spared the embarrassment that is believing fake news, as Facebook is testing a new “Satire” tag — an occurrence that prompted The Onion to respond in characteristically tongue-in-cheek fashion with an article titled “Area Facebook User Incredibly Stupid.”

“Describing him as frequently frustrated and overwhelmed, sources confirmed Monday that local Facebook user Michael Huffman is incredibly stupid,” The Onion wrote. “‘I need stuff easy,’ said the absolute dipsh–, adding that he finds many things confusing, and that those things must be changed so that they make sense to him.”

“At press time, someone had reportedly fixed everything for the goddamn imbecile,” the piece concludes.

Apparently, users had, indeed, been asking for such a feature — likely not as hilariously as the nonexistent Huffman, however.

Mashable reported this past weekend that the new proposed Facebook feature would add a tag reading “[Satire]” to articles found in the related articles unit in our News Feeds.

“This is because we received feedback that people wanted a clearer way to distinguish satirical articles from others in these units,” a Facebook representative told Mashable.

Although it may be obvious ...
