Taylor Swift Admits She May Be The ‘Most Enthusiastic, Obnoxious’ New Yorker

by 8 mins ago

Taylor Swift sure loves New York. She wrote a damn song about it called “Welcome to New York” on her 1989 album, which came out Monday. And now, the city has dubbed her their Global Welcome Ambassador. But the only reason we know anything about Taylor is because when she’s passionate about something, she lets us know.

“When I love something, I’m very, very vocal about it,” Swift told David Letterman when she stopped by “The Late Show” on Tuesday night. “Any time I talk to anyone or any time I do an interview, I’m like, ‘You don’t understand. You have to go there now. You have to go to New York. Just drop what you’re doing, and go there. It’s amazing. It’s the greatest place ever.’

“And I guess the city picked up on that,” Taylor continued jokingly. “She’s the most enthusiastic, obnoxious person to ever love New York. She loves it with like 18 exclamation points afterward, underlined.”

Also on the show, T.S. further demonstrated her love for the Big Apple by performing “Welcome to New York” in a sparkly teal romper. And she also told Letterman that she hasn’t really been writing “snarky” songs about guys because she isn’t really dating.

“I haven’t really had any lousy boyfriends in the last year and a half. It’s been good,” Swift said. “I’m just not looking around for them, at them, shopping — I’m not doing any of that.”

Jack Antonoff ‘Almost Died’ Filming Bleachers’ ‘Rollercoaster’ Video: Watch Now

by 3 mins ago

Jack Antonoff “almost died” filming the latest Bleachers video. And while there were no weapons or maniacs involved, an accident is bound to happen when you’re performing atop a cruising ice cream truck.

The fun. guitarist released the video for “Rollercoaster” on Tuesday (October 28), a day after his friend Taylor Swift dropped 1989, which he co-produced. The clip, directed by Richard Shepard, was somewhat dangerous to film, he said.

“The idea of getting on top of a car and playing on a highway felt distinctly ’90s in a way that excited me about videos I saw growing up. Didn’t think it would be acutely dangerous — the brakes ended up going out and we literally almost died,” Antonoff said of the video, according to Pitchfork. “There’s something special about almost dying for a video. Beyond that, ‘Rollercoaster’ was written while I was driving home on the NJ turnpike. The song always felt like driving on a highway to me sonically.”

Bleachers is Antonoff’s side project. He put out the album Strange Desire earlier this year. Here’s the live version from when Bleachers was MTV’s Artist to Watch:

This Little Kid Is Basically Bruno Mars’ Clone

by 15 mins ago

There’s nothing like dressing up kids as celebrities (just check these pictures for proof). This little tot copped Bruno Mars‘ 2014 Super Bowl outfit and looked very similar to the “Gorilla” singer. Maybe too similar, Bruno admitted:

“Whoever this kid belongs to God bless you!! We shop at the same stores… And wear the same size :(,” Mars wrote on Instagram late Monday night.

If this kid is impersonating Bruno Mars now, imagine where he’ll go next. After all, Bruno sang as Elvis Presley when he was a tot…

Taylor Swift’s ’1989′ Album: A Helpful User’s Guide!

by 14 mins ago

Taylor Swift’s 1989 is out! Time to start analyzing. After listening to it five times already, here’s what I can tell you about the album, complete with influences, themes, and RIYLs (recommended if you like) included.

1. ‘Welcome To New York’ – RIYL: NYC

If you thought this song was straight out of a NYC tourism commercial, there’s a reason. On Monday, Tay Tay was named Global Welcome Ambassador for the city. Coincidence?

Nevertheless, “Welcome to New York” chronicles our girl’s move to the Big Apple, and while it’s been criticized for being a bit naive about the city, this opening track captures the excitement and frenzy of NYC as well as the new chapter in Taylor’s adult life, which sets the tone for the entire record.

2. ‘Blank Space’ – RIYL: Lorde, Lana Del Rey… and Shaggy?

This song takes you on musical journey, which sounds incredibly cheesy, but just listen: it starts off with a hip-hop beat, takes on Lorde-like vocals (and Lana when she’s singing about her “long list of ex-lovers”) and comes in with a catchy chorus, which you’ll soon learn is standard for 1989. The best part about “Blank Space” — besides the *pen click* — is that Taylor pokes fun of herself, or rather, what people think of her. (Oh, and if you listen carefully, you can hear Shaggy’s “Saw me kissing on the sofa” in “So it’s gonna be forever,” according to my Twitter friend.)

21 Musicians Who Changed Genre Mid-Career

by 5 mins ago

Taylor Swift isn’t the only musician who’s made a genre jump by declaring she’s going pop with her new album 1989. And while country fans still have a hard time letting that go (they still invite her to the CMA Awards), it’s working for her. But Tay isn’t alone.

Remember Hootie and the Blowfish? Well, lead singer Darius Rucker found his calling with country. And it turns out, a lot of your favorite female singers were in girl groups. Like the sultry R&B of Tinashe? She’s got edgy pop band roots with The Stunners. Fergie was in Wild Orchid, a sexy ’90s pop group, before taking on hip-hop with the Black Eyed Peas.

And you can date this trend as back as Bob Dylan, who shocked his folk fans when he went electric at the Newport Folk Festival in the 1960s. The scandal!

Check out the 21 artists who’ve gone their own way.

Watch One Direction And Danny DeVito Take ‘Steal My Girl’ To The ‘Next Level’

by 14 mins ago

Finally! One Direction‘s “Steal My Girl” video is here, and we can finally stop asking why Louis was seen chilling with a chimp. Because director Danny DeVito wills it!

And while you still might be wondering why the guys are dressed up at gladiators, why there are sumo wrestlers, and why DeVito is in the desert, the only answer is this: 1D dream in epic proportions. And since they’re pretty much the biggest band on the planet, they do as they bloody well please in the clip actually directed by Benjamin and Gabe Turner.

The video fills out epic proportions as DeVito teaches the band how to make art and destroy their inhibitions. There’s a bit of magic and fantasy in the air — marching bands, wild animals, floating balloons — and there’s no doubting that they might all be wizards. (Also, Zayn playing the part of “Mystery” is per-fect.)

Take a look for yourself and tell us your favorite part (if you can narrow it down).

Lorde Is Katniss Now?

by 18 mins ago

Wow. Lorde looks really good as Katniss. A fan drew Ella as our favorite “Hunger Games” pure heroine, and she looks real comfortable with a bag of arrows on her back. Almost too comfortable. I’d watch out.

We’ve imagined Lorde as Katniss before. After all, the New Zealand singer had to get into her head to write the song “Yellow Flicker Beat,” one of her contributions to the “Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1″ soundtrack, which she curated. Other songs on the compilation include offerings by Kanye West, Haim, Pusha T And Charli XCX. We’ll also hear another Lorde track called “Ladder Song.”

So, don’t worry: Jennifer Lawrence still has her Katniss gig, but if she ever needs an understudy, we know where to look.
