Demi Lovato Reveals Grandfather Was Gay: Watch Her Touching Tribute

by 38 mins ago

Demi Lovato and the LGBT community have always been rather close. The “Heart Attack” singer was the Grand Marshall at Los Angeles’ Pride Parade earlier this month. She’ll be performing at New York’s Pride this weekend.

And as she revealed at Logo TV’s inaugural “Trailblazers” special (airing this Thursday at 9pm), one of her family members was also a trailblazer in the LGBT community.

When speaking at the event, which coincides with the one-year anniversary of the defeat of DOMA — Demi shared something she’s never shared before.

“I’ve never spoken about this before, but my grandfather himself was a trailblazer. He was brave enough to come out in the 1960s, and I feel a lot of my spirit has come from him,” she said. “He passed away a few years later and I only wish he could have been able to see all the progress that has been made.”

Demi is hardly the only big-name celebrity who was there for the “Trailblazers” special. Daniel Radcliffe, Adam Levine, Nate Ruess, Lance Bass, Joe Manganiello, the cast of Orange Is The New Black and Sia were all in the house to honor leaders in the LGBT community.

And you can watch it all on Logo TV, this Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.

Justin Bieber Involved In Minor Car Crash In Beverly Hills

by 47 mins ago

Justin Bieber was reportedly involved in a minor car crash in Beverly Hills on Tuesday (June 24), after his driver tried to outspeed a paparazzo.

According to TMZ, the Escalade that the “Boyfriend” singer was a passenger in was being chased by a paparazzo when it ran into a BMW that was entering the street.

Law enforcement told TMZ that no one was injured.

Back in January of last year, a paparazzo was run over and killed when he was trying to photograph Bieber.

“Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves,” Bieber wrote in a statement after the incident.

‘Orange Is The New Black’ Star Taylor Schilling Finds That Ugly Jumpsuit ‘Liberating’

by 4 mins ago

Piper Chapman doesn’t get dolled up too often. She spends an overwhelming majority of her screen time in a far-from-flattering beige jumpsuit. Her face is practically bare of makeup. Her hair is never curled or thrown in a sexy updo.

But Taylor Schilling, who plays Chapman on the hit Netflix series “Orange is the New Black,” doesn’t have a problem with that. In fact, in an interview for her Allure cover story, she says she finds the whole thing rather “liberating” — primarily because it helps her focus on what she came here to do: act.

“There’s freedom in not having to make it about how my jeans fit or what my boobs look like in a top,” she said of her unglamorous “OITNB” look. “All I have to do now is play.”

She continued, “I don’t feel bound by my face or my body. I don’t feel like that’s the biggest gift I have to offer the world. I feel like there are more parts of me to offer than that.”

Liars’ New Video For ‘Pro Anti Anti’ May Make Your Face Melt

by 5 mins ago

In concert, Liars‘ “Pro Anti Anti” is one of the most face-melting off their rather volatile Mess. So, if you think about it, their just-released video for the dissonant dance track only makes sense — as frontman Angus Andrew and Aaron Hemphill’s faces literally melt.

The guys — noticeably without longtime Julian Gross, who is taking a break from Liar’s current tour because of a back injury — get statues made of their faces, display them in a museum, and watch as they melt into beautiful, colorful piles of mess. It all looks very similar to the album’s chaotic artwork, which — when Liars sat down with MTV News earlier this year — they said more reflects their more “vibrant and visual” musical approach.

“You focus on something that is a clutter and it stands outside of the environment it’s within and you’re forced to somehow make sense of it,” Hemphill said. “You focus all your time and energy… focusing on this mess of strands entertangled and really trying to make sense of it until it’s so focused that how can it be deemed haphazard.”

After Al-Jazeera Journalists Are Convicted In Egypt, Activists Proclaim ‘#JournalismIsNotACrime’

by 5 mins ago

Three Al-Jazeera journalists were convicted in Egypt on Monday (June 23) of aiding the Muslim Brotherhood, sparking outrage and a call for their freedom among fellow journalists and activists.

The Muslim Brotherhood, a religious and political group, is banned in Egypt and has been labeled a terrorist organization by the country.

Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed had been in prison since December, when they were charged for conspiring with the Brotherhood and endangering national security. According to CNN, Greste and Fahmy were sentenced on Monday to seven years behind bars while Mohamed was sentenced to 10.

According to NPR, six more Al-Jazeera journalists were sentenced in absentia to 10-year terms.

The White House was quick to condemn the convictions, which were apparently delivered without any evidence that supported the allegations.

“Perhaps most disturbing is that this verdict comes as part of a succession of prosecutions and verdicts that are fundamentally incompatible with the basic precepts of human rights and democratic governance. These include the prosecution of peaceful protesters and critics of the government, and a series of summary death sentences in trials that fail to achieve even a semblance of due process,” press secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement on Monday. “I don’t think it has anything to do with justice.”

According to Al Jazeera English Managing Director Al Anstey, there were “numerous irregularities” in the case and a “lack of evidence to stand up the ill-conceived allegations.”

“There is only one sensible outcome now,” Anstey said in a statement on ...

Bill Clinton To Celebrate DOMA Defeat With Logo TV

by 5 mins ago

Former President Bill Clinton is coming to Logo TV.

In celebration of the one-year anniversary of the defeat of the Defense of Marriage Act, Clinton will honor Edie Windsor and Roberta Kaplan — two of the catalysts behind last year’s overruling — during Logo TV’s inaugural Trailblazers event and television special, airing Thursday (June 26) at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

“Seventeen years after signing DOMA into law, I was honored and grateful to be among the voices urging that it be overturned,” Clinton said in a statement. “The decision would not have happened without Edie Windsor’s dogged determination to right a wrong and Roberta Kaplan’s equal commitment to simple fairness. As marriage equality spreads across the states, the number of people impacted by these two amazing women will only continue to grow.”

In addition, Lance Bass will make an appearance to honor Brooklyn Nets player Jason Collins for becoming the first publicly gay male athlete in a major American sport.

And Demi Lovato will honor the cast of “Orange is the New Black” for bringing the lives and stories of characters rarely seen on television into millions of living rooms around the country. Danielle Brooks (Taystee), Laverne Cox (Sophia), Lea DeLaria (Big Boo), Taryn Manning (Pennsatucky) and Samira Wiley (Poussey) will all be on hand to accept the award.

The event will feature also presenter Daniel Radcliffe, who is a longtime supporter of The Trevor Project, a performance from A Great Big World and special appearances from Tegan and Sara, Ed Sheeran, Jared ...

Exclusive: Hear Ed Sheeran’s ‘I’m A Mess’… Which Isn’t A Mess At All

by 6 mins ago

Ed Sheeran is trying to convince us he’s a mess on his latest X track, but we’re not entirely convinced.

In fact, “I’m a Mess,” which premiered Sunday (June 22) on MTV, is a rather pretty thing, mainly because it strips the production down to a minimum to focus on what we love the British singer for: That voice.

Like most of his folk-leaning pop numbers, it’s a track that makes you feel like Sheeran’s singing just to you, and one that has a chorus that’s bound stick as he sings “For how long/ I love my lover.” And when his voice comes down to a near whisper — making the whole thing that much more intimate.

Oh, and he also manages to make the phrase “put your faith in my stomach” sound super romantic. Which is impressive.

“I’m a Mess” is the latest off Sheeran’s upcoming alum, X, which will drop Stateside on Monday.

Katy Perry Offers Hillary Clinton A Campaign Song…’If She Needs It’

by 47 mins ago

Katy Perry better get a new ballot dress: If things go the way she’d like, she’ll need one with the name “Hillary Clinton” on it.

Sure, Clinton may not have announced whether or not she’s running for president — in fact, she’s dodged the question over and over again, each time rather gracefully — but if she does, Perry made it clear that she has her full support.

On Thursday, the two met at Clinton’s Los Angeles book signing for “Hard Choices,” her new memoir about her four years as Secretary of State. The “Roar” singer not only snapped a picture with more girl power than a Spice Girls tour bus, but she also offered to write a theme song if she decides to put her name in the hat for the 2016 campaign.

She’s spoken out about the United States’ health care problem in an interview with <em>Rolling Stone,</em> has long been an advocate for gay rights, and has been openly supportive of President Barack Obama — even <em>dressing as a human ballot</em> at a rally for the POTUS during the 2012 campaign. </p> <script type='text/javascript' id='simplereach-analytics-tag'> __reach_config = {" perry="" offers="" hillary="" clinton="" a="" campaign="" she="" needs="" var="" s="document.createElement('script');" s.async="true;" s.type="text/javascript" s.src="document.location.protocol">

Taylor Swift Got A New Kitten: Meet Olivia Benson

by 18 mins ago

Until today, you may have known Olivia Benson as the troubled hardass with a softside and, arguably, as the backbone of “Law & Order: SVU.” But now, Olivia Benson is a cat.

Taylor Swift’s cat, to be precise.

The “I Knew You Were Trouble” added another furry creature to her family on Wednesday (June 18), sharing the photo of her and the white ragdoll kitten on Instgram.

Not coincidentally, Swift’s other cat, Meredith, is named after another one of television’s fierce females: Ellen Pomeo’s Meredith Grey from “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson and Taylor Swift all under one roof? Girl. Power.
