‘Game Of Thrones’: 9 Questions About ‘The Mountain And The Viper’

by 06/02/14

Warning: Major spoilers from last night’s “Game of Thrones” are ahead!

The battle between the Red Viper of Dorne and the Mountain That Rides is over. Who won? Who lost? Have you recovered from the results yet, or is your brain still exploding?

Those answers, and plenty more questions, after the image below.

Wait, That Didn’t Really Happen, Did It?
It happened. It looked like he was about to conquer the Mountain, and then in a flash, it was over. Oberyn Martell is dead. The breakout character of the season, who seemed poised for an even bigger role as “Game of Thrones” moved forward, is dead. Really, truly, mutilatedly dead, literally at the Mountain’s hands. It was rough. It’s not just. But that’s Westeros for you.

Okay, But What About Tyrion?
Well, that’s the question, isn’t it? The Mountain emerged victorious, which means Tyrion is on the losing side of the trial by combat — which means the next stop is the chopping block. Is the show’s de facto lead about to meet the same end as Ned Stark? Barring some sort of last-minute miracle, it sure seems like it.

What About The Mountain?
He is in rough shape. Even though Oberyn died, Gregor Clegane sustained his fair share of wounds. Are the injuries severe enough to finish the Mountain off? We’ll have to wait and see, but his fate was left intentionally vague.

How Pumped Is Cersei?
Super pumped. All she wants in life is for her impish brother to lose his. Now, it looks like she’s ...

‘Game Of Thrones’: Predictions For Tonight’s Battle Between ‘The Mountain And The Viper’

by 06/01/14

When you participate in trial by combat, you win or you die — there is no middle ground.

Tonight, “Game of Thrones” arrives at the long-awaited duel between The Red Viper of Dorne and the Mountain That Rides. In Oberyn Martell’s corner, we have a man with justice on his mind, and vengeance in his heart. In Gregor Clegane’s corner, we have a man who simply loves killing stuff.

Who will emerge victorious? And what will happen to Tyrion in either scenario? Here are some predictions for the outcome of tonight’s episode, “The Mountain and the Viper”:

If The Red Viper Wins…
The Internet will explode with glee. He’s the sexiest new character on the show by leaps and bounds (with apologies to Daario), he’s defending our boy Tyrion, and he has a score to settle. The happy outcome is a win in the Oberyn column.

If The Mountain Wins…
The Internet will explode with horror. It will be a sudden and tragic end for a great new character like Oberyn. But it’ll also be a bloodbath, presumably, so that’s kind of cool.

If The Red Viper Wins…
Then Tyrion’s options are wide open. The Imp could go just about anywhere. He could travel with Oberyn back to Dorne. He could go to Casterly Rock and steer clear of King’s Landing. He could find out about Sansa’s location and seek her out in the Eyrie. He could go north to Winterfell and hang with the Boltons, or help Jon Snow on the Wall. The ...

Which ‘Million Ways To Die In The West’ Scene Was Too Gross For Seth MacFarlane?

by 05/30/14

Seth MacFarlane’s “A Million Ways to Die in the West” has a million ways of grossing you out — but even for MacFarlane, there’s one gag that was too far over the line.

Speaking with MTV News, MacFarlane, who wrote, directed and starred in the R-rated “Million Ways,” pulled the curtain back on one scene that didn’t make the final cut of the Wild West era comedy.

“There was a scene in the doctor’s office, where we see a frontier era surgery taking place,” said MacFarlane. “The doctor gets up and leaves for a moment, and his cat jumps up on the table and makes off with an intestine.”

“It made us laugh on the day, but it didn’t quite [work],” he laughed. “I think people were so horrified by it. ‘We get that you’re portraying this as such a rough, awful place to live — which it was – but we don’t want to see a cat eating somebody out from the inside.’”

Even Charlize Theron, MacFarlane’s co-star, was horrified by the scene. “If I’m going to say something is too much for me, then it must be pretty f—ed up, because I’m pretty okay with a lot of stuff,” she said.

Indeed, Theron’s comments are coming from an actor who, at one point in “Million Ways,” inserts a daisy into… er, into an…

“Into an a—hole,” Theron clarified. “Yes, I did. Several times. Because I’m a professional, and I wanted to get it perfect. I’m a perfectionist.”

Glad we got that covered.

Nostalgia Alert: All Of Your Favorite ’90s Movies Are Getting Reboots

by 05/30/14

Love it or hate it, the Reboot Robot controlling Hollywood from a secret underground lair has shown no signs of weakness.

Just yesterday, reboots of two fan-favorite (if somewhat on the fringe) movies from the 1990s were announced: “Stargate,” the portal-warping science fiction thriller that spawned numerous television follow-ups, and “Cliffhanger,” the Sylvester Stallone mountain-scaling action flick that brought you this little slice of horror:

Between those obscure reboot ideas, not to mention the fact that there’s a “Point Break” redo on the way, it’s starting to seem like all of our favorite ’90s movies are about to get the reboot treatment. What’s next?

“The Rock”

Starring Zac Efron in the Nicolas Cage role and Nicolas Cage in the Sean Connery role.

“Face/Off”

Because those faces can’t stay on forever.

“Broken Arrow”

Ain’t it cool?

“True Romance”

This is what Quentin Tarantino is doing instead of “The Hateful Eight.”

“The Professional”

Evvvvveeeeeerrrrrrryyyyyyyy reboot.

“The Fifth Element”

Re-boot multi-pass.

“The Sixth Sense”

Except this time, they were all dead the whole time.

“Forrest Gump”

Stupid reboot is as stupid reboot does.

“A League of their Own”

Okay, this sounds eerily plausible. Hollywood, stay the heck away from the Rockford Peaches.

“The Sandlot”

Now I’m just depressed.

Following “Cliffhanger” and “Stargate,” which ’90s movies do you expect to see rebooted next?

‘Breaking Bad’: Is Bryan Cranston Really Done With Walter White?

by 05/30/14

Warning: “Breaking Bad” spoilers ahead.

It’s over when he says it’s over — and he’s not saying that just yet.

Bryan Cranston, multiple Emmy-award winning star of the multiple Emmy-award winning “Breaking Bad,” has seemingly put Walter White behind him, following the show’s conclusion last fall. And based on that ending, it doesn’t seem particularly likely that Cranston could bring his Heisenberg hellfire and brimstone back to life anytime soon.

But is Walter White actually dead? In an interview with CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield, Cranston gave a seriously cagey response that have some fans wondering if the legendary Heisenberg is truly dead and gone.

“Hey, you never saw bags zip up or anything,” said Cranston. “Or anybody say… you know.”

Indeed, the show never flat-out confirms that Walter dies from his accidentally self-inflicted gunshot wound. He falls to the ground and stares up at the ceiling, seemingly lifeless, but that’s the final image of the show, without further elaboration.

In the “Breaking Bad” finale script, however, writer and creator Vince Gilligan makes it a bit more explicit, describing Walter as “lifeless” in the final shot, with “faint satisfaction” as “his final expression.”

“He got away,” the script reads.

If you take the script as canon, then Walter is definitively dead. But if we’re going solely by what’s on screen, perhaps there’s an out — or perhaps it’s just wishful thinking on everyone’s part.

“Never say never,” Cranston told CNN.

But even if Walt is in that mobile meth factory in the sky, that doesn’t mean we won’t see the character again some day. ...

Forget ‘Ant-Man’: 9 Movies Marvel Should Make Instead

by 05/29/14

With Edgar Wright gone, should Marvel bother with “Ant-Man” anymore?

Sure, it has Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas and a lot of other great actors. Yes, that sizzle reel showing off Ant-Man’s size-changing shenanigans was pretty fantastic. But without Wright’s signature magic in the mix, does anyone actually want to see a movie about the bug-sized hero — especially when there are so many other heroes worth exploring on film?

With “Ant-Man,” Marvel faces many obstacles, including finding a replacement for Wright and other key creatives, while still meeting its July 2015 release date. It’s not an impossible goal to achieve, but it’s a difficult one — and perhaps an unnecessary one. Perhaps the better alternative is to stop down on “Ant-Man” altogether and refocus on some of the other heroes in the Marvel catalogue that bring more to the table.

Here are nine movies that make more sense for Marvel right now than “Ant-Man.”

Doctor StrangeMarvel Comics

“Doctor Strange”
The Sorcerer Supreme was name-checked in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Casting and director rumors have swirled around for years. It’s time to pull the trigger, Marvel. Make the Master of the Mystic Arts a priority.

Captain MarvelMarvel Comics

“Captain Marvel”
Carol Danvers, the world is waiting for you. Marvel Studios has broken the superhero movie mold in so many ways over the years. They need to come out of the gate with the first female-led superhero movie, and there is no candidate better than the hero who wears Marvel in ...

Watch Hugh Jackman’s First Wolverine Audition

by 05/29/14

He’s the best there is at what he does — but he wasn’t always the best.

Hugh Jackman, international superstar thanks to his role as Wolverine across seven different “X-Men” movies, wasn’t always so comfortable brandishing those adamantium claws. The Australian actor was a latecomer to 2000′s “X-Men,” joining the cast at the last minute after Dougray Scott dropped out of the film.

At the time, nobody knew anything about Jackman; he was a complete unknown to the mainstream moviegoing masses. How was he able to dig his claws into one of the most iconic comic book roles of all time?

Well, thanks to an audition video unearthed by ComicBookMovie.com, we have an answer. Watch the 11-minute video below to check out Jackman’s initial audition to play the fast-healing mutant:

The video features Jackman, no more than 30 years old at the time, reading Wolverine’s lines with the actor’s own Australian accent — an accent he eventually abandoned when he won the role. Interestingly enough, Jackman was not the first Australian Wolverine.

What do you think of Jackman’s Wolverine audition?

Five Seasons And A Hulu: ‘Community’ Could Return After All

by 05/29/14

What is dead may never die.

Those words are typically found on a different high-profile show, but they’re applicable when it comes to “Community,” based on recent news. Weeks after NBC canceled the Dan Harmon sitcom, it now appears that Hulu is attempting to bring the series back to life for another season.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms talks between Hulu and Sony Pictures Television for the resurrection of “Community,” though there’s no deal on the table yet. Shortly after NBC canceled the series after five seasons, Sony Pictures Television’s Jamie Erlicht said that he would fight for the show’s return.

“You can’t get to six seasons and a movie without six seasons,” said Erlicht. “This show had a remarkable history. There are real conversations we need to have with everyone as soon as we get back. We’ve been on the receiving end of some phone calls, but we really need to get together with the ‘Community’ team and have real conversations and figure out the future. If there’s any show that should have a future or could have a future, it really feels like ‘Community’ is the one.”

But Dan Harmon, creator of “Community” and show runner for four out of five seasons (the less said about season four, the better), was less optimistic about bringing the show back. In a blog post written two weeks ago, Harmon said he was “definitely in the ‘eh’ column” about the possibility of “Community” making a comeback.

“For a million reasons, some ...

So, Want To Know Everything About ‘Jurassic World’?

by 05/29/14

Dreams do come true, even for misguided billionaires like John Hammond.

Colin Trevorrow, director of the upcoming “Jurassic World,” has confirmed recent rumors about the plot and details of the next film in the “Jurassic” series. His interview with Slash Film, posted late last night, pulled the curtain back on how dinosaurs are back in the mix following the events of the first three “Jurassic Park” movies, what Chris Pratt’s character is all about, and much more.

Read on if you want the details, but be warned: spoilers are ahead.

jurassic_world_1

1. “Jurassic World” is the “Disney World” of Dinosaurs
Twenty-two years after the events of “Jurassic Park,” John Hammond’s dreams for a dinosaur-filled amusement park have been realized. According to Trevorrow, the titular Jurassic World is “a fully functional park on Isla Nublar” that sees 20,000 visitors every day, arriving by ferry from Costa Rica.

Jurassic World has all of the characteristics of great theme parks: Luxury resorts with hotels, restaurants, golf courses and more. The only difference between this park and others is that at Jurassic World, there are dinosaurs — lots of them.

“You can get closer to them than you ever imagined possible,” according to Trevorrow.

jurassic_world_2

2. Dino Disillusionment
For Trevorrow and his creative team, one of the key ideas behind “Jurassic World” is the “seen it, over it” nature of culture today. In a world where high-speed Internet access can show you everything you want to know in the blink of an eye, where the ...

‘X-Men’ Assemble: Six Mutants We Want Facing ‘Apocalypse’

by 05/26/14

Warning: Spoilers for “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” are ahead.

Well, that’s one way to push the reset button.

By the end of “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” director Bryan Singer’s mash-up of two different eras of mutant mayhem, the table has been reset for Fox’s “X-Men” franchise. All that came before in the first three “X-Men” movies has, arguably, become undone. The way is clear for the “First Class” cast to move forward, continuity-free — something that fans have wanted to see for years.

So, what’s next? In two years, we’ll have “X-Men: Apocalypse,” featuring the nearly immortal villain that was seen building pyramids with his mind at the end of “Days of Future Past.” That’s one character you can count on seeing in the next “X-Men” movie. You can also bank on returns for James McAvoy as Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Nicholas Hoult as Beast and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, the keepers of the “First Class” flame. And Quicksilver? All but guaranteed, based on the popularity of his big scene.

Who else needs to be involved? Here are a few of the mutants we want to see in “X-Men: Apocalypse.”

Cyclops
One of the greatest achievements of “Days of Future Past” is the resurrection of Scott Summers. When James Marsden appeared on screen, it yielded more applause than any other moment from the film. Now that Cyclops is back, and on Xavier’s radar (thanks to Logan), it’s time for the Fox films to treat the character with the love and respect ...
