Carly Rae Jepsen Takes Us Backstage At Cinderella: Check It Out

There’s a new princess on Broadway: Carly Rae Jepsen.

After weeks of rehearsal, and photo teasers in her ball gown, Jepsen will officially put on those glass slippers Tuesday as she begins her three-month run as the fairytale favorite in

Before her big debut, the “Call Me Maybe” singer invited MTV News behind the scenes of her Broadway show, where she took us to Cinderella’s home, put her dance moves on display and showed off those famous glass slippers.

“It was surprisingly emotional,” Jepsen said when she first tried on the shoes. “I think that it’s just such a classic tale and the shoes are so much a focal point to the whole thing and they were like, ‘What size are you?’ And I was just really happy that it actually fit. I was like it would be a bad omen if my first try, the size is off, but it did fit.”

And Jepsen is fitting right in, being Cinderella, even if Broadway took a bit of time to get used to.

“It’s a huge learning curve for me, but it’s intimidating in a lot of ways as well,” Jepsen said. “It’s 24 hours and I sleep, I have dreams about Cinderella. Luckily, I have good people around me.”

Those people, including “The Nanny” star Fran Drescher, who will play her evil stepmother, might have to keep a close eye on Jepsen when it comes time for the horse-drawn carriage scene: She shared that she might get a bit emotional.

“Every single time this scene happens, I feel like balling like a baby,” Jepsen said. “It’s so emotional, and she’s flying through the sky in the scene to get to the palace to meet Prince Charming. It’s every girl’s fantasy.”
