Schoolboy Q’s Oxymoron Track List Unveils Big-Time Features

Schoolboy Q has proven to be a meticulous artist, having released just two projects since 2011. It appears he’s taken the same careful approach on his upcoming album, Oxymoron. The track list, which was revealed early Monday morning (February 3), includes both past collaborators as well as some pleasant surprises.

In addition to the previously released “Collard Greens” with Kendrick Lamar, two songs feature other Top Dawg Entertainment artists lending Q an assist, according to the list of songs published to MissInfo.TV. Early on is “Los Awesome,” featuring Jay Rock, a potential ode to the city from which the two MCs hail. Later, Q enlists the recently signed SZA for “His & Her Friend.”

Beyond Rock and K-Dot, the 27-year-old passes the mic to West Coast artists a number of times, bridging a generational gap on “The Purge,” which features Tyler, the Creator and Kurupt.

Kurupt isn’t the only OG to lend a hand and a verse to Q on his major-label debut: Raekwon appears on “Blind Threats.” That bicoastal collaboration seems both surprising and exciting on paper, and the same can be said for “What They Want,” featuring 2 Chainz.

BJ the Chicago Kid, with whom Schoolboy Q collaborated on his 2011 independent release, Setbacks, also appears on the album, as does Bay Area mainstay Suga Free.

With the track list now available, Q is one step closer to the release of his Interscope debut. While it could be a nerve-racking time for an artist, particularly coming on the heels of Kendrick’s success, the TDE rapper explained on the January 22 episode of “RapFix Live” that he’s confident with the product he’s put together.

“As long as people love the album, that’s all I care about,” he told show host Sway Calloway. “It’s up to the fans. I can’t sell a record — it’s up to them. I’m pleased with everything I’ve been doing. I’m not worried about nothing.”
