In the past few weeks, there has been a lot of talk about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, since both “Thor 3” and “Captain America 3” were confirmed as eventualities by hiring writers and potential directors, respectively.
With “Ant-Man” starting production soon and sequels for “Thor” and “Cap” on the way — assuming they’ll fit into Marvel’s Phase Three, which is not guaranteed — that leaves only a few spots to fill before “Avengers 3.”
The MTV News team has a few ideas about how Marvel could close out their Phase Three, so our writers have each come up with three movies that they’d like to see included before the next “Avengers.”
“Planet Hulk”

“Planet Hulk” keeps Marvel in the stars, and allows them to tell an entirely new and unusual story featuring the Jade Giant. “Doctor Strange” is Kevin Feige’s baby. The Marvel head honcho has been an outspoken proponent of the Sorcerer Supreme for years. It’s a matter of when, not if, a “Doctor Strange” movie happens. Before “Guardians of the Galaxy” was announced, Marvel was said to be eyeing “Black Panther” as part of its Phase Two lineup. Obviously, that didn’t happen. It’s entirely possible that T’Challa will make his debut in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” given rumors of shooting locations in Africa, possibly posing as Black Panther’s fictional kingdom of Wakanda. — Josh Wigler

You don’t think Marvel is going to let an entire cycle go by without an “Iron Man” movie, right? Though RDJ might be out until “Avengers 3,” Don Cheadle is reportedly stepping up with a role in “Avengers 2.” And though chances are “Thor 3” will focus, once again, on the relationship between the God of Thunder and his trickster brother, it’s Tom Hiddleston who’s the true break out star of the series. Heck, you could build a whole “Loki” film out of what’s going on in Asgard while Thor is busy on Earth. While Marvel continues to get more cosmic and mystical, there are a few popular characters, like Ghost Rider, Blade and Punisher, that have returned to the Studios which deserve not to be left behind in the shuffle. Rather than once again trying to give them a solo franchise, why not bundle up the street-level heroes as “Marvel Knights: Dark Avengers?” — Alex Zalben

If the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy” adaptation is supposed to be the launch pad for the cosmic arm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as we’ve been told over and over again, there should be a plan to move forward in that setting. There’s been a big push by Marvel to expose kids to Nova, with regular appearances on the “Ultimate Spider-Man” TV show, and no non-movie character has had a bigger culture impact recently as Captain (née Miss) Marvel, whose upcoming relaunch will take her into the far reaches of space. Plus, a female lead is long overdue. If Marvel wants to double down on intergalactic action, this is how they do it. — Kevin P. Sullivan
