When Will We Get Taylor Swift’s Next Single? Sooner Than You Think

by 6 mins ago

The lead up to Taylor Swift‘s first major pop album 1989 has been like a treasure hunt meshed with a birthday party. Between the fan-focused secret listening sessions, the hilarious outtakes from her “Shake It Off” video and the Harry Styles rumors that are swirling around her next single “Out Of The Woods” it has been quite a ride.

But all that is about to get swept under the rug and completely surpassed. Why? Because last night she teased her next single on Twitter and I feel like it’s going to be a doozy.

The shot of her with a skyline? That’d be New York City, the place where Tay Tay has been spending a ton of her time lately, and according to the ever-churning Swiftie rumor mill, there’s a song on her album called “Welcome To New York” that this photo might reference that track.

Though Taylor has claimed on her Tumblr that the tracklist is wrong, she also had to go back and revise that it is right about some things! But if this leak does have any hint of truth, then the song is one that Taylor co-wrote with One Republic’s Ryan Tedder so you know it will have a huge emotional chorus buoyed by probably strings and beautiful piano, right?? Guess we’ll just have to wait until ...

Emma Stone Hilariously Explains How She Kept Screwing Up ‘Birdman’

by 10 mins ago

The currently in theaters “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” would be a weird enough concept – Michael Keaton plays a former superhero movie star given one last chance to revive his most famous role, mirroring real life – without one of the most ambitious conceits in movie history: director Alejandro González Iñárritu filmed the whole thing in one take.

Or at least, the 119 minute movie which co-stars Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton and more looks like it was filmed in one take due to some judicious camera cuts. Still, even with the faux-one-shot, Iñárritu still would film the long tracking shots in four minute chunks or more, something virtually unheard of in today’s quick-cut world.

And because of that? Emma Stone kept screwing up the movie. A lot.

“It was hard. It was definitely hard,” Stone told MTV News about Iñárritu’s unique technique. “And I screwed it up, quite a few times. And I was just so sick to my stomach, waiting for them to do the scene, hearing how good this take was going to be and then coming in, and going around the corner too fast and ruining it.”

Given the ambition of the film, you’d imagine that perhaps the cast and crew would coddle a big movie star like Stone, understanding that’s it’s difficult to keep your motivation and character for minutes at a time, let alone nail your blocking without fail.

Nope.

“Well, Alejandro goes, ‘You’re ruining the movie!’ and then you go, ‘Oh, ...

So, Lana Del Rey Performed In A Cemetery Last Night

by 26 mins ago

It’s not every day you get asked to watch Lana Del Rey perform in a cemetery, but considering I’m always down for an impromptu ghost sighting (and IRL Lana sighting too, duh), I couldn’t pass it up. She played her first of two Los Angeles shows last night at Hollywood Forever where some of THE most famous people are buried (see: Johnny Ramone’s badass gravestone). I, along with hundreds of other teen bbs in flower crowns, got to watch Lana coyly perform 13 songs from Born to Die and Ultraviolence against grainy 8 mm projections and palm trees. Here’s how it went down.

Just as I was elbow-deep in a box of Wheat Thins, Lana hit the stage in a red floral wrap dress paired with her signature bouffant ’do and ’60s-inspired makeup. After a simple, “Hey!” she kicked off her set with “Cruel World” and immediately made her way into the crowd.

After it was over, she said, “I’m so excited we’re all together tonight… It’s the perfect way to end the tour.” Awww, you sweet, L. :’) As she sang “Cola,” a dude with a seafoam (!!!) guitar from her band shredded so hard in a motorcycle jacket while she swayed back and forth onstage. Then, she lit a cigarette and managed to hold it in the same hand as her mic while singing “Body Electric.” That’s talent, y’all *golf claps*

What do you think a superhero would smell like? They’re running around ALL the time, wearing body-conscious, likely not-very-breathable suits as they battle the wildest intergalactic and/or homegrown threats on the dirty, dirty streets of planet Earth. But HEY! Maybe all that patriotism counteracts that.

Supreme Court Allows Strict Photo ID Requirements In Upcoming Texas Election

by 1 hour ago

The Supreme Court has struck down a temporary injunction barring Texas from enacting one of the strictest voting ID laws in the country. The New York Times reports that new ruling will allow the state to enforce the law in the upcoming election.

In 2011, a law was enacted in Texas demanding that voters present photo ID. At first, the law was blocked under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, which requires approval from the Federal government before any changes to voting law. The Supreme Court struck down Section 5 in 2013.

After that, Texas officials began to enforce the ID legislation.

In September, a federal judge struck down the law, on the basis that it placed “an unconstitutional burden on the right to vote.” Texas appealed, and the case went to the Supreme court.

Dissenting, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg issued a six-page brief alleging that the decision “risks denying the right to vote to hundreds of thousands of eligible voters.”

“A sharply disproportionate percentage of those voters are African-American or Hispanic,” Ginsburg continued, “racial discrimination in elections in Texas is no mere historical artifact.”

Joined in dissent by Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, she added that law “replaced the previously existing voter identification requirements with the strictest regime in the country.” Ginsburg argues that the law would place a heavy burden on low-income and minority voters, who tend to vote Democratic.

Since acquiring a government issued ID requires a certified birth certificate, which costs money, Ginsburg argued that this law amounts ...

Rihanna Goes Rogue With Her First Men’s Fragrance

by 1 hour ago

By Andres Tardio

Rihanna goes Rogue!

Rogue Man is the name of the singer’s first fragrance for men, something that she says is a dream come true.

Rih Rih made several posts about the fragrance on Twitter Saturday (October 18). In one post, the leader of the Navy delivered a strong message to those who say women can’t make fragrances for men:

“We make men wear fragrance!”

Right on, Rihanna!

Rihanna announced the fragrance in August, but it’s finally here. For Rih Rih, this is also awesome because she says she’s happy to present this to “handsome men” everywhere. Something tells us that men will be happy to get this gift from Rihanna, too.

Want to know where you can get the men’s fragrance? Rihanna has the answers.

Rihanna’s Rogue might sound familiar because the singer has also had a women’s fragrance out with the same name. You might remember her Rogue ad was deemed too racy for the UK earlier this year. But Rih Rih now that your perfume is out, can we finally get that album??

This Pub Just Broke The Record For The World’s Longest Concert

by 2 hours ago

The show must go on. And on, and on. An Irish pub on the Las Vegas strip is doing it’s best to break the Guinness World Record for Longest Concert By Multiple Artists.

The Ri Ra Pub in The Shoppes at Mandalay Bay has not stopped hosting live music since October 1st. How have they managed to pull off this sonic marathon?

According to the AP, Ri Ra has been flying in Irish musicians for weeks to fortify their attempt at the record. This includes Liam Reilly of Irish band Bagatelle and Dave Browne, who is something of a secret weapon: Browne holds the current Guinness World Record for Longest Marathon Guitar Playing. In 2011 he played for 114 hours and six minutes at the Temple Bar Pub, in Dublin.

The previous concert record was 15 days, set in 2011 at a Michigan Cafe.

In order to qualify for the record, artists at Ri Ra have been playing nonstop, with only 25 second breaks between songs and five minute breaks between sets. You have to respect the indomitable spirit of any musician willing to play Irish music at 7 a.m. on the Strip.

Yesterday at 1 p.m. the record was finally smashed after more than 360 hours of music.

This Mini Horror Film Will Terrify You In 60 Seconds Flat

by 16 mins ago

By Andres Tardio

You tuck your child in and he asks you to check for monsters under the bed. Sounds like a routine night at home, right? Instead, this is the start of a creepy, scary and super-eerie one-minute horror film.

The film, which you can see above, was adapted from a two-sentence horror story posted by a user named justAnotherMuffledVo on reddit about a year ago.

Don’t think a two-line story can be that chilling? Read the post for yourself:

“I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, ‘Daddy check for monsters under my bed.’ I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, ‘Daddy there’s somebody on my bed.’”

And it’s scary to see these words come to life. That’s what Ignacio F. Rodó did when he directed the film, titled “Tuck Me In.”

Rodó says the one-minute movie, which features Luka Schardan and Mark Schardan, has won several awards throughout the world, including film festivals in Spain, Germany, Sweden, Italy and Canada.

That’s great for Rodó, but not so great for those scared of monsters under beds.

A Giant Highway Honey Spill Killed Thousands Of Swarming Bees

by 27 mins ago

A honey spill at a busy Florida intersection drew thousands of bees to their deaths last Thursday (October 16).

A flatbed truck carrying thousands of pounds of honey hit a nasty bump on Del Prado Boulevard in North Fort Meyers, spilling 200 gallons of the sweet stuff all over the road. Soon enough, thousands of honeybees started swarming the pool, drawn by the smell.

Unfortunately, the bees got stuck in the massive honey spill — and when cars drove over them, they were crushed to death beneath their tires.

No one besides the bees was hurt in the accident. The local fire department teamed up with the Florida Department of Transportation to clean up the spill.

Honeybees are already suffering from colony collapse disorder, a significant drop in population numbers that’s probably because of the chemicals used in agricultural pesticides. This new honey tragedy can’t have helped them out at all. RIP little guys.

Think Funerals A Drag? Then This Drive-Thru Funeral Home Is For You

by 39 mins ago

Anyone who has been through the grueling process of a funeral knows how emotionally draining and socially trying the process can be. Unfortunately, celebrating the life of someone you loved—along with everyone else who loved them—can take a lot out of you. First you have to go to the funeral itself, and then, probably the reception, and sometimes an extremely long wake. If only you could swing by and pay your respects without having to chat up the old preacher and all those weird in-laws… well if you live in Michigan, now you can.

The Associated Press reports that The Paradise Funeral Chapel in Saginaw has begun offering drive-thru funerals for mourners on the go.

Ivan Phillips, president of the funeral home, thinks plenty of customers will choose the automotive route. It’s simple: curtains in front of the drive-thru window connect to sensors in the pavement. When you pull your car up the curtains open and music plays, as you gaze mournfully at the remains of your loved one. Each car will have three minutes with the body, then it’s over.

Phillips explains that part of the impetus for offering this service was to better serve those mourners who have physical limitations. Only a few families have tested out the service so far, but Phillips told the AP he thinks more people will want to use it after it becomes more established.

According to Phillips the drive thru-window is separate from the indoor viewings, so you can get in and ...
