Tavi Gevinson Is ‘Nylon’ Magazine’s Latest ‘It Girl’

by 4 mins ago

Ever since the Nylon “It Girl Issue” was born in 2007, the magazine’s annual cover has featured the likes of Emma Stone, Elizabeth Olsen, and more. Joining the elite club this year is Tavi Gevinson, who, at 18, already bears the titles “actress, writer, and founder and editor-in-chief of Rookie Magazine.” Why was Tavi bestowed the prestigious title, you ask? Oh, because, according to Nylon, “she’s definitely got ‘it.’” Seems reasonable.

Tavi might be the star of the issue and the photos in the spread, but the people who contributed to the article aren’t too shabby either–the introduction was penned by Hazel Cills, shot by Petra Collins, and includes quotes from friends Michael Cera, Emma Watson, and Stevie Nicks. No biggie. LOL, JK.

Of course, Gevinson shares some of her wisdom as well, including her plans for the future.

“… you have this idea about what it means to be a writer, and what it means to be a performer, whether you’re introverted or extroverted. I have at times felt like they don’t mesh. Then it’s just, like, ‘No, f*** that. Maybe I don’t see a precedent for my life in the outside world, but I can be that precedent.’”

Um, hi, yeah, I need to cut this out and tape it to my bulletin board immediately. I need this as constant source of inspiration. Fortunately, the issue hits newsstands on Wednesday (tomorrow!). Until then, ...

Liam Neeson Joins The Cast Of ‘Ted 2′

by 6 mins ago

Someone call Key & Peele, because Seth MacFarlane just broke some crucial casting news that should have Liam Neeson(s)’s biggest fans feeling pretty psyched right now:

Boom. You hear that? That’s the sound of Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson starring alongside Mark Wahlberg and a talking bear. (Mila Kunis was replaced with Amanda Seyfried as the female lead, FYI.)

The film is scheduled to be released on June 26, 2015, and you should probably expect to see a whole lot more bear-y famous faces once it finally comes out. Ryan Reynolds, Norah Jones, Sam Jones (“Flash Gordon”) and even Tom Skerritt made cameos in the first “Ted,” and that film’s commercial popularity and cult success make the sequel a beacon for celebrity appearances, especially with MacFarlane directing.

Neeson’s role (and Freeman’s) is still a mystery, but we think his unique set of skills will make him a great fit for whomever he decides to play.

Asher Roth Completes RetroHash Journey With ‘Pull It’ Video

by 20 mins ago

Asher Roth has created a particular aesthetic with his recent RetroHash videos, with pulsating lights and colors guiding the way for visuals that have a bit of a nostalgic feel. With his latest clip, “Pull It,” which dropped on Wednesday (September 24), Ash continued the trend.

“‘Pull It’ is the third and final chapter in the ‘RetroHash’ journey,” the rapper wrote in the description of the video on YouTube. ‘Following ‘Parties at the Disco’ (escape) and ‘Last of the Flohicans’ (ego death), ‘Pull It’ represents the transformation.”

During the video, there are times when the Pennsylvania native gets up close with the camera, and others where things look a bit more murky and clouded. Throughout, though, you’ll be nodding your head, and afterwards, probably want to go check out the first two.

In case you missed it, here’s “Parties At The Disco” featuring ZZ Ward.

And here’s “Last Of The Flohicans” featuring Major Myjah.

Lorde Just Made This Girl’s Life

by 30 mins ago

We hate to tell you this, guys, but no matter what happened to you today — your crush told you s/he feels the same way, you won something from one of those claw machines, you cured cancer — there’s no way you had a better day than a 12 year old named Amanda.

Nope. No way. No how. Your life looks like a grey road leading to nowhere, the sucking fogs of forgotten time lapping at the edges, when compared to Miss @LongLiveLorde’s. Can you guess where this is going from her Twitter handle?

Yup, not only did Amanda’s parents surprise her with Lorde tickets — and film the whole thing, because #2014 — Lorde herself RT’d the video, writing: “just got sent this and i am teary– COOLEST GIRL EVER.”

Amanda reacted the way we all would have in this case: by sending out a barrage of borderline speaking-in-tongues tweets. Here’s our favorite.

Eff schoole, am I right? Lorde thinks this girl is the coolest — and after watching the video in question, we have to agree. We won’t give too much away, save for this choice quote: “So we’re not going to the water park?” Classic.

How Much Would The Batmobile Cost?

by 2 mins ago

Step aside, vintage convertibles, and feel free to just reverse yourself out of the picture, souped-up SUVs: We all know what the real dream car is. That would be the Batmobile.

Yes, the Dark Knight’s tricked-out ride is enviable, as our look at the latest iteration for 2016′s “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” confirmed. Who wouldn’t want to roll down the streets of Gotham — or any city — in that bad boy?

Well, according to a report from CNBC, everyone except those with very deep pockets should keep dreaming. We’re talking millions of dollars deep.

Ryan Friedlinghaus, host of “West Coast Customs,” gave a prediction in the range of $3 million for the Zack Snyder Batmobile, based on the pictures. However, he added, that doesn’t count the practical upgrades that a Batmobile would need on the streets.

“If a defense company was to make a vehicle like that, you’ve got to make it bulletproof, there are so many other pieces to it, then to make it look pretty and move around and drive,” he said. “I mean, this thing has to go into war, I would say triple that.”

Hear that? If you’ve got $9 million and the determination to get the darn thing built, you could be rolling Caped Crusader style.

Fences ‘Almost Cried’ When He Heard Macklemore’s Verses On ‘Arrows’

by 2 mins ago

Macklemore may be getting “back to the basics” on his own music, but when he teamed up with Fences for “Arrows,” his verse was anything but basic.

The “Thrift Shop” rapper hooked up with his old friend, Seattle artist Chris Mansfield (a.k.a. Fences), for the collaboration, which was produced by Ryan Lewis. It didn’t seem like Chris, who co-wrote the track “Ten Thousand Hours” for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ debut album, The Heist, had to do much convincing to get the hip-hop star to lend him a couple verses — all it took was a simple phone call.

“I called him on my cell phone — I think you were coming back from a water park or something — and he said ‘yeah,’” Fences said backstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. “So, we did it.”

And the rest is history. Macklemore gets open and honest on his verses on the song, rapping about the downfalls of fame and getting “blinded by this limelight.”

“I was really nervous,” Fences said about hearing Macklemore’s raps for the first time. “And I put my computer by my window in Brooklyn and I lit a cigarette and I listened all nervous, and I was like, ‘Oh my god’ — I almost cried. It was so good because he said a lot of things, powerful stuff.”

And it doesn’t look like Macklemore, who wrote the first verse of the song back in December of last year, has ...

Wanna Know Austin Mahone’s ‘Secret’? Watch This

by 35 mins ago

So, what’s Austin Mahone’s secret? Was he born with webbed feet? Is he secretly obsessed with Dump Cakes? Well, by the looks of his new “Secret” video, it’s that he…loves his fans and had a really great time touring North America this past summer. Mystery solved?

Filmed during Austin Mahone Live On Tour, the Eric Guererro-directed clip sees the “MMM Yeah” singer getting pumped before he takes the stage. Once out there, he works the crowd of Mahomies into an absolute frenzy — which is totally understandable. I mean, this The Secret EP track is, like, Backstreet Boys-levels of infectious.

“Thank you all for supporting me on my first big tour,” Austin captioned an Instagram post in support of the “Secret” video, adding that he can’t wait to hit the road again. So, I guess this clip is kind of like a thank you card? That’s cute, Austin, but you still didn’t tell us what your secret is.

Bad at filling out bios seeks same.

Lena Dunham Says Not Voting Is ‘Embarrassing’

by 35 mins ago

Lena Dunham has kind of a big secret: She didn’t always vote. I know. I was shocked, too. Ms. Dunham, she who penned this quote…

girls-voice-of-my-generation

… wasn’t always using said “voice.”

“I didn’t always vote. And that’s embarrassing, more embarrassing than being naked on TV or being told you look like a ‘baby giraffe’ when you walk in heels at awards shows,” Dunham wrote in a recent article on a Planned Parenthood blog in celebration of National Voter Registration Day.

“I didn’t vote for a lot of reasons: because I thought our mothers had already handled feminism. Because I live in New York City where, I was told, it was all Democrats anyway. But mostly because I didn’t feel my voice mattered,” she added.

Obviously, Dunham changed her tune, as evidenced by this slightly racy video she made in support of now-President Obama in 2012.

And now, she’s hoping she can convince others — perhaps little Lenas of the present? — to register as well, laying out her top reasons for taking the plunge. Those reasons are: 1.) It makes you feel good. 2.) Every vote is equal (you and Bey ARE THE SAME). 3.) Those candidates and incumbents running for office could control your sex life (in ways that are decidedly not fun). 4.) There are a lot of people out there who are anti-women’s health. 5.) Voting leads to doing greater things.

You can read Lena’s whole list here — she says ...
