Angelina Jolie Is Already Directing Another Film, And It Takes On Ivory Poachers

by 20 mins ago

We, for one, are totally on board with more women directing. Particularly when they’re telling stories as important as the one Angelina Jolie is tackling in her third jaunt behind the lens, the expansively titled film “Africa.”

Based on a true story, “Africa” will follow paleoanthropologist Richard Leakey’s battle to save the African elephant population in Kenya against the ivory poachers who cared far less about the gentle giants’ existence and fare more about their tusks.

“I’ve felt a deep connection to Africa and its culture for much of my life,” explained Jolie, whose other directed feature, “Unbroken” is said to be heading to theaters this Christmas.

That emotion was brought to life in screenwriter Eric Roth’s “beautiful script about a man drawn into the violent conflict with elephant poachers, who emerged with a deeper understanding of man’s footprint and a profound sense of responsibility for the world around him.”

We’re going to have to go ahead and agree with several other voices around the Internet though on that title front: calling the film “Africa” when it’s not about Africa but rather this one specific event in one country that exists within the whole continent of Africa feels pretty glib to us.

But who says that’s what it will stay, right? After all, Queen Angelina has the power now, so she’ll certainly use it for good, right?

Hudson Mohawke’s BBC Mix Is An Hour Of Unmissable Music

by 2 mins ago

Hudson Mohawke is a prodigy producer and DJ, so when the Scottish musician put together a mix for the BBC, we had to take note. It’s an hour of smooth, stuttering and unmissable tracks that feature his signature pulsing production style.

The Glasgow musician first rose to prominence as one of the duo TNGHT, who Kanye West signed to his G.O.O.D music label and collaborated with for several Yeezus tracks.

Kanye appears on the hour-long mix that Hudson put together for Diplo and Friend’s radio showBBC’s 1Xtra’s Hip Hop Month, along with hip-hop heavy weights like Action Bronson, Clipse, Madlib and more EDM-based musicians like Rustie and Diplo.

Let’s Start An ‘Idris Elba For James Bond’ Campaign

by 1 min ago

Listen, we’re not saying it’s time for Daniel Craig to put down his martini just yet, but when he does we’ve got the perfect replacement: Idris Elba.

The gruff and tough moody man actor took part in a Reddit AMA (short for Ask Me Anything) Q&A on Saturday in support of his latest film, “No Good Deed,” where he addressed a long-speculated fan rumor about whether or not he’d tackle MI5′s most notorious agent were the job offered up to him.

In short? “Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely,” the actor stated, causing fans of “Luther” himself to go all atwitter with adoration at the mere thought.

Which got us thinking — why stop there with obsessive love alone? Why not ask — nay, demand! — that Elba be given the role once Craig has decided to put an end to his 007 days? After all, he’s more than prepared to take on the part.

He Can Kick Ass Like No Other

Even in a silly hat!

He’s Brooding and Mysterious

He’s Totally the Most Handsomest

HELLO, SIR.

He Looks Damn Good in a Suit

I mean…

He’s Super Fit

…As Josh Horowitz already learned long ago: the man is IN SHAPE, a very important part of being Bond.

Apparently, Starbucks Is Testing A Beer Flavored Latte

by 17 mins ago

Starbucks has been busily inundating the world with a host of new flavors, syrups and ideas, and their latest addition is no different. Dubbed the Dark Barrel Latte, the latest coffee the Bucks is testing will channel the same flavors as a stout, dark beer.

The most similar flavor palette is the Irish staple Guinness, of course, although there will be no alcohol in the drink. A Reddit user shared a picture that contained a host of information about the forthcoming flavor:

And we practically started drooling on sight!

Topped with whipped cream and dark caramel sauce hmmm? Toasty malt, chocolatey goodness and the much-needed caffeine bump? While there’s no official confirmation on whether or not this flavor will get beyond testing, it definitely has our vote! It’s available in select markets, so you just might get the chance to try it.

What do you think? Will beer-flavored-coffee going to be the next new trend? Let us know in the comments.

This Vintage Ad Perfectly Spoofs The U2 And Apple Collaboration

by 1 min ago

A Photoshop wiz has blessed us with a retro take on U2 and Apple’s latest collaboration.

The British rock band teamed teamed up with Apple for the biggest album release ever for their latest album Songs Of Innocence, but the stunt backfired a bit when everyone freaked out that the album was pre-installed in their iTunes.

To poke fun at the situation, someone created a parody ad that offers one of the band’s older, classic albums War on cassette as a free gift with the purchase of an Alba cassette player:

Not a bad idea actually, but definitely fake.

‘Gotham’ Star Donal Logue Tells Us When We Might Meet The Joker

by 25 mins ago

Most stories about Gotham City tend to revolve around a certain Dark Knight, but on Fox’s new sure-to-be-hit series “Gotham,” it’s all about the villains — well, and the police department who just can’t seem to get a handle on them, of course. MTV News screened the pilot (more than once), so when Donal Logue — who plays the Detective Harvey Bullock to Ben McKenzie’s James Gordon — stopped by for a visit, we just had to ask about the show’s biggest bads, like Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor).

“You get to meet these people, it’s like, ‘well, why did they turn bad?’” Logue said. “They didn’t wake up one day and be a fully-formed Danny DeVito ‘The Penguin.’ Were they picked on? Were they ridiculed? How did they form? For me, the most fascinating part of being in the show is to go, ‘oh, so that’s how he decides to turn his back on the good side and go to the dark side’… you always kind of wonder what made someone the way they were.”

Indeed, the pilot largely focuses on the beginning of Cobblepot’s journey to becoming Penguin, as the murder of Bruce Wayne’s parents plays out in the background. Young Poison Ivy, Selina Kyle, and a pre-Riddler Edward Nygma also star in the pilot, but Logue assures us that many more are on their way.

“There’s some massive villains from the universe,” he continued. “Hopefully, the idea is you do this thing ...

A Man Waited In Line For An iPhone 6 For 44 Hours To Win Back His Wife

by 24 mins ago

One British man waited in line for almost two days to get an iPhone 6, but his motives were different than most people.

While avid Apple consumers were eager to wait to get the phone itself, Darius Wlodarski was doing it to prove a point. His wife of twenty years Joanna recently left him, and he waited for the new phone in an effort to prove himself and win her back.

“Since we split up, I have realized that I was not a very good father or husband,” Wlodarski told The Bristol Post. “I did so many things wrong, so I want to say sorry to my wife and daughter.”

The 41-year-old is currently unemployed on account of health issues, so he paid for the phone with his credit card after waiting in line for a total of 44 hours.

Though unsure if the phone will bring them back together, Darius wanted to at least make the gesture.

“I bought her an iPhone 5 two years ago and she was delighted,” he said. “She told me she would like an iPhone 6 because it had a bigger screen but realized we could not afford it but still, I want to buy it for her.”

Better late than never, right?

I am very happy to get something she will like but for me, it is a sad day,” he concluded. “I hope I can convince her I could be a good father ...
