Meet The Russian Pet Groomer Who Turns Cats Into Dragons

by 25 mins ago

One pet groomer in Russia has taken her animal beauty salon to the next level. Instead of just baths and haircuts, she gives cats and dogs colorful makeovers to resemble exotic creatures, like dragons and bumblebees.

Daria Gotz, a groomer based in Yekaterinburg, Russia, showed off two of her latest customers recently. Two pets, a cat and a dog, went home with unusually colorful dye jobs. The cat got a haircut to look like a mythical green dragon, while a Shih Tzu pup named Bettie wore yellow and black bumblebee stripes.

They might be strange-looking at first, but these colorful critters have gotten plenty of positive reactions from passers-by in Yekaterinburg.

“The first reaction from people is probably shock, because people see a dog colored like this for the first time. Joy, delight — children like it a lot!” said Bettie’s human Ekaterina Aidimirova. The attention-grabbing dye jobs can help to draw awareness to the culture of caring for pets as four-legged members of the family.

Gotz says that she only uses dyes made from botanical extracts that wear off once the animal’s coat grows out. Watch a video of these transformed pets below.

Stevie Nicks Is Readying An Exhibit Of Vintage Polaroid Selfies

by 14 mins ago

Stevie Nicks will display a gallery of polaroid self-portraits in New York next month. The show, titled “24 Karat Gold,” will take place at the Morrison Gallery, which displays photography of and by musicians. The show shares it’s name with Nicks’ new album, which will come with a special edition book of the self-portraits.

Taken between 1975 and 1987, the photos document a period of self-discovery for the Fleetwood Mac singer. In a statement to the New York Times, Nicks explains the inspiration behind the photos:

“I wanted to learn how to become a photographer. And I don’t sleep at night, so I thought, who am I going to ask to stay up all night, and then do a show tomorrow? So I’m not going to get Christine [McVie, also of Fleetwood Mac]. She’s going to say, ‘Are you crazy? I’m going to the bar. Bye.’”

The photos were selected from Nicks’ old shoeboxes by Dave Stewart, the guitarist of the Eurythmics.

Nicks wasn’t just snapping her iPhone in a bathroom mirror: the exquisite Polaroids find Nicks exploring props, costumes, and different kinds of lighting: “I did everything…I was the stylist, the makeup artist, the furniture mover, the lighting director — it was my joy. I was the model.”

With Kim Kardashian set to release Selfish, a 352 page book of selfies, it’s safe to say we’re living in the age of celebrity selfies as #art.

The exhibition of Nicks’ photos will take place at 201 Mulberry Street on Oct. ...

This Bartender Got The Tip Of A Lifetime From A Stranger

by 26 mins ago

A bartender in North Carolina got the surprise of a lifetime when a generous stranger signed off on a $1,000 tip for his $14 tab.

Chrisi Kemp, who works at the One Whirled Café in Wake Forest, made eye contact with a passerby through the restaurant’s window, and he decided to come inside for a couple of drinks on his way home from the grocery store. After spending just $14.01, the customer casually added a grand to his credit card receipt.

At first, Kemp couldn’t believe what she was looking at. “I looked down and was shocked. I said, ‘You don’t have to do that,’” she told TODAY.com. “And he said, ‘Do you need it? Well, then keep it.’ … I didn’t know if I was going to cry or what.”

Kemp had been experiencing financial troubles recently, needing to pay medical bills for her sick 5-year-old daughter, but she didn’t mention them to the customer while the two made conversation during his visit to the café.

At first, she tried to refuse the tip, but the man insisted that she accept it. The $1,000 tip came from a place of pure generosity — the customer, who asked to stay anonymous, mentioned that he believes in karma.

Kemp passed her good luck along right away, sharing the tip with two of her co-workers who waited tables on the same night.

After waiting tables for 16 years, Kemp finally hit the kindness jackpot. Sometimes you just get lucky.

Fraternity Suspended After Allegedly Using Color-Code System To Drug Female Guests

by 24 mins ago

The Zeta-Zeta chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has been suspended by the University after allegations that the fraternity used a color-coded system to put date-rape drugs in drinks of female guests. The University made the announcement via Twitter, suspending the organization while an investigation is underway.

The TKE chapter held a party on September 12, where three women and one man who had attended all were vomiting and unable to walk back at their dorm that night and were later taken to the hospital.

At the party guests were marked with a red or black x upon entry, and only female guests were allowed to purchase an index card, which granted them “all access to the house” where they could get alcohol from any of the bars. University officers reported to the house at 1:20 am, where at least 40 people were in attendance, including many students that were underage.

The women who were hospitalized all had their hands marked with a red x, with one saying she had a “weird feeling” before she blacked out. The man had a black x on his hand from the fraternity, but had taken a drink from a female’s cup who had a red x.

“Police tell us that one person has been arrested in the case, but has not been charged pending review by the district attorney,” Tom Luljak, vice chancellor for university ...

Stolen Nude Photos Surface Of Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Hudgens And More

by 9 mins ago

Following the massive leak of nude photos of celebrities earlier this month, another set of stolen nude images have cropped up.

Uproxx reports that the photos were leaked via 4chan in the same way as before, but this time the site has been vigilant in removing the photos immediately.

Nude pictures of Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Hudgens and U.S. soccer player Hope Solo were leaked among others. Since the photos have been removed in accordance with 4chan’s new copyright infringement policy, it is unclear everyone who might have been affected.

Aubrey Plaza, Hayden Panettiere, Leelee Sobieski and Lake Bell all appear to be involved as well. So far, the leaks haven’t been confirmed and a representative for Kim Kardashian denied comment.

The FBI are still investigation the previous leak and will undoubtedly address this one as well. It’s another gross display of privacy violation and slut-shaming.

These 80s Sci-Fi Movies Got The Future Very, Very Wrong

by 5 mins ago

The 80s were an incredible decade for movie science fiction, giving us classics like “Blade Runner” and “Aliens.”

Fortunately for us, it also gave us a bunch of movies which, no matter how good they were, got the future extremely wrong. Here are the eight worst offenders.

1. “The Terminator”

Yes, it’s a phenomenal movie. No, we don’t live in a world where cybernetic organisms caused a nuclear holocaust and wage a laser-ship dominated war with the remnants of humanity. I know it’s not supposed to be until 2029, but still don’t really see the signs of that happening. Sorry, Mr. Cameron.

2. “Escape From New York”

John Carpenter’s classic takes place in 1997, which in his movie means America is a dystopia, Manhattan is a giant prison where the crime rate is out of control, and the world while in real life it meant the crime rate had gone down and Microsoft was releasing Internet Explorer 4.0.

In 1996, Carpenter tried again with “Escape from L.A.,” where he predicted the year 2013 with pretty similar results.

3. “Tron”

“Tron” doesn’t take place specifically in the future (like a few on this list, its future is of the “not too distant” variety), but posits that the most advanced video game A.I. looks something like this:

Which is basically worse graphics than any video game system before Sega Genesis. But yes, I still do wish I could drive a light cycle.

4. “Flash Gordon”

Again, this isn’t specifically the future, but it takes place in a world with telepathic ...

This Canadian City Just Set The World Record For Most People Dressed As Batman

by 38 mins ago

The world has seen its share of Batman movies, comics, and cartoons, but it’s never had quite so many Dark Knights in the same place at once.

Employees of an energy company in Calgary, Alberta, just set the world record for most Batmen in an effort to raise money for charity.

A total of 542 Nexen Energy employees swarmed downtown Calgary dressed as Batman last Thursday (September 18) to kick off the company’s United Way campaign.

Luckily, the Guinness Book of World Records was there to inspect everyone’s costumes and officially confirm that Nexen broke the world record for “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Batman.” They more than doubled the previous record, which stood at just 250 Batmen.

Calgary residents posted snapshots of the Batman swarm to Twitter, including a few who reported that the gathering quickly turned into a massive superhero dance party.

Criminals in Calgary will never sleep again.

A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Fan Fought Off An Intruder With His Own Spear

by 13 mins ago

Okay, here’s an update in the extremely weird news section of this week: on Wednesday a man defended himself from an intruder by using a spear. Yes, that’s right—a spear.

Jimmy Morgan Jr. was awakened this past week (September 17) by the sound of someone entering his home around midnight and he immediately grabbed his spear to investigate.

The self-proclaimed hobbyist of SCA—or the Society for Creative Anachronism— Morgan is well-versed in the kind of medieval fighting with spears and swords that would be more at home in “Game of Thrones” than in his hometown of Wichita, Falls, Texas.

In an interview with his local news outlet KFDX, Morgan displayed his own love for the Westeros way of solving problems by sporting a Night’s Watch shirt, and recounting how he stabbed 25-year-old Thomas McGowan, who allegedly broke into Morgan’s home.

McGowan was reportedly on the run from the police when he entered Morgan’s house that night. He is charged with evading arrest, criminal trespass and driving under intoxication. Though he was seriously injured he is now recovering.

You can watch him recount the events in a video interview over at KFDX, but be warned, it is a graphic video. Wonder hat would Cersei say about this??

Clay Aiken Says Celebs With Nude Pics ‘Deserve What They Get’

by 35 mins ago

Long gone are the days where Clay Aiken stood on a stage, garnering attention for his singing talents as the runner-up of “American Idol” in 2003. Today he’s standing behind lecterns, hitting the campaign trail as a congressional candidate in North Carolina. But his recent comments about the recent leak of celebrity nude photos might have lost him a few votes of confidence.

In an interview with the Washington Post the former pop star basically said that he thinks the victims of the hack had it coming to them.

“Anybody who takes inappropriate pictures of themselves deserves exactly what they get,” he told the Post.

Although Aiken was quick to add that he supports online security.

“Of course whoever [stole and released the photos] should be hogtied,” he said. “And it’s unfortunate that we don’t have Internet security right now or the laws in place to protect people from pirating that stuff.”

So leaking the photos was wrong in his book… but it seem like he’s implying that taking them is as well? That’s the kind of slut-shaming attitude that perpetrates harassment and bullying for women who have gone through this kind of invasive experience.

The comments seem a bit out of character for Aiken, who has spent the past decade involved with organizations like UNICEF, and worked on the President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities in 2006.

Even if Aiken thinks these women deserve their fate, the FBI doesn’t and their investigation is ongoing, with the ...
