Pharrell Williams Wants Hillary Clinton To Read His Stan Smiths

by 5 mins ago

Chances are you’ve already seen the first of three collaborations that Pharrell Williams is expected to do with Adidas, featuring eye-popping Stan Smiths and matching track jackets.

What you may not have seen, however, is Skateboard P’s latest set of customized kicks.

While Pharrell hand-painting a pair of sneakers isn’t new—they’ve become something of a style signature for the artist, second only to his Vivienne Westwood hat—the message on them is. The bright blue sneakers read: “Go visit Ferguson, Hillary Clinton” among some pretty cheerful-looking daisies.

Williams is already a staunch advocate of Clinton and seems to be asking her to take a personal approach to the Missouri town. This appears to be the first time P has called for action on his sneakers—maybe he’ll try a new message on a red pair?

Justin Bieber Is Aware That You Hate His ‘Stache

by 3 mins ago

Well, it looks like Justin Bieber is busy changing up more than just his relationship status. Today he was practicing guitar, playing with his new iPhone and, uh, purposefully letting a little stubbly ‘stache appear on his beautiful face:

Justin knows what we’re all thinking: GET RID OF IT. The offensive, ugh-inducing ‘stache must be gone. But he already knows how we feel of course: “I’ll shave it calm down” he captioned the photo.

Okay, as long as he knows that we do not approve. And after all that work he just put in to patch things up with Selena, wonder how she feels, hmmm?

You can see another angle on his barely-there facial hair while he admires his brand new iPhone 6:

And here while he FaceTimes his guitar lesson:

Just waiting for the ‘stache-free selfie now, Justin. You can easily take one with your new iPhone to alleviate our fears. We’ll be waiting.

How One Man Used Twitter To Bring Gay Bashers To Justice, And Why That’s Only Half The Story

by 13 mins ago

Earlier this week, the world gained one more shred of evidence that Twitter can, in fact, be used for good when one Philadelphia-area user saw something wrong — a group of assailants who had evaded justice after attacking two gay men in his city — and set about righting it.

On Thursday (September 18), I spoke with @FanSince09, who wishes to remain anonymous, over the phone about internet vigilantism, police outreach over social media and hate crime legislation. Oh yeah, and the Phillies — but more on that in a bit.

anonymous-twitter-hate-crimeTwitter

Just in case you’re unfamiliar with the case, and the resulting media frenzy, here are the major details directly from Lieutenant John Stanford, Commanding Officer of Public Affairs & Social Media and Public Information Officer for the Philadelphia Police Department. On September 11 at approximately 10:45 p.m., two men — a gay couple — were walking down the street when an interaction occurred with a larger group of approximately eight to ten men and women. A verbal exchange took place between the couple and the group, which then escalated to a physical altercation.

The official PhillyPolice Blog noted the verbal exchange allegedly included “disparaging remarks” made by the group about the couple’s perceived sexual orientations, a fact that, if true, would imply a homophobic motive for the attack. The blog also reported that during the attack one of the victims dropped his bag — containing his cell phone, wallet and credit cards — which ...

Mariah Carey Is A Goddess Of The Sea, Commander Of Dolphins

by 4 mins ago

Mariah Carey has had the powers of the sea bestowed upon on her royal self. During a playful trip with dem babies at Georgia Aquarium’s Ocean Voyager, the Queen commanded two dolphins to bend at her will and pose for a perfect sea-selfie.

All hail the mighty Mimi, commanding leader of the Dolphins as declared by Poseidon himself.

Befitting a goddess of such high regard, MC’s ocean prowess will be forever known in the night skies as the constellation Miminius. Mariah, guided by her dolphin cohort, ride an endless ocean of stars in the heavens, protecting all mild-mannered sea creatures below.

Get Up Close With The Drake Vs. Lil Wayne Tour In The ‘Grindin’ Video

by 17 mins ago

Lil Wayne and Drake have been on the road on their joint tour for over a month now, and they’ve probably spent a bunch of time hanging out, maybe skateboarding, and hopefully recording music. We now also know one of the other things they used that time for: Shooting a music video.

Their new “Grindin” visuals, which dropped on Friday (September 19), follow the two rap stars on stage and backstage during the Drake Vs. Lil Wayne Tour, which kicked off in early August.

The Scoob Doo-directed clip is for one of Tunechi’s recent singles off of Tha Carter V, which is set to hit stores on October 28.

Lecrae Calls His #1 Album A Case Of ‘David And Goliath’

by 3 mins ago

Lecrae has been building a fervent fanbase for over a decade, with a Grammy and a few #1 Gospel albums under his belt. With his latest, though, Anomaly, which dropped earlier this month, he reached a new pinnacle: The #1 album in the country, topping the Billboard 200.

“I was definitely excited,” Lecrae told MTV News on Friday (September 19). “But I was excited more because it’s almost like a David and Goliath type of situation, where you have a real, real indie artist, independent label. And it caused people to think, and question, and wrestle with why and how and what it’s all attributed to. I like that it caused a little commotion in the industry, and hopefully it will push people to really get back to making dope music, being real, being authentic and communicating what’s on their heart.”

As he’s continued to gain more mainstream recognition in recent years, the Houston-born rapper has earned followers that come to him for his technical rapping ability as much as for his Christian-based content.

“I think this was an album that, musically, people didn’t argue with; they didn’t push back on it,” he says of reconciling the multiple sides of himself and his fans. “Obviously, there are a couple tracks that were catered to a more contemporary Christian audience, and that’s a demographic that I understand, that I know probably an urban or hip-hop listener probably is just like scratching their head at.

“But think, overall, they’re like, ‘OK. ...

Kesha Joins Fight To Get This Kid’s Laser Cat Photo In The Yearbook

by 7 mins ago

One high school kid’s courageous fight to use a laser-and-cat-filled photo as his senior portrait found a new supporter Friday (September 19): The human rainbow herself, Kesha. Draven Rodriguez was unaware of this state of affairs, however — until MTV News told him — because he was pretty busy learning things and prepping for crew practice, as a H.S. student does.

“I’ll have to get back to that in the next week or so,” Rodriguez told MTV News as he ambled toward all the boats and paddles and things we imagine they use whilst crewing (doing crew? playing crew?). “Next time I have a chance I should log on. That’s awesome.”

Awesome, indeed. The “Timber” singer took to Twitter today to stand in solidarity with the high school senior, posting the below tweet to the microblogging site — one that pretty much sums up how we all feel.

For those of you who hate the Internet and fun, Rodriguez preemptively started a petition that went viral last week, asking Schenectady High School to let him use as Awkward Family Photo-esque snap of him and his cat Mr. Bigglesworth as his yearbook snap.

He had previously taken the photo with photographer Vincent Giodano as a joke, choosing to highlight the cat that the family had acquired the year before. “He literally walked into our lives early last year when my other cat died,” the Everyman of Cats told News. “He looked like a carbon copy of her.”

YG Blames LAPD For Banning Him From Lil Wayne And Drake Tour Dates

by 6 mins ago

Going on tour with Lil Wayne and Drake would be a career boost for just about any artist, but YG has been grounded just a week after it was announced that he would join the Young Money stars on the road.

“Irvine/Hollywood , the LAPD ain’t letting me perform at the #DrakeVsWayne dates today and Monday,” the My Krazy Life rapper tweeted on Friday (September 19). “All that giving bak must don’t matter.”

The Drake Vs. Lil Wayne Tour is scheduled to hit the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, California tonight, the Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, California tomorrow and then it’s off to Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Monday.

YG, a Compton native, says he won’t be performing at two out of the three dates.

MTV News reached out to a media relations representative for the Los Angeles Police Department and was told that the department had no information regarding the matter. We were also told that the LAPD has no jurisdiction in Irvine.
