A Brief History Of The VMAs As Told Through 5SOS’ Band Tees

by 20 mins ago

It’s no secret that the guys of 5 Seconds of Summer luhhhhve them some band tees. The smaller the sleeves and more destroyed, the better. It’s also no secret that 5SOS is performing at the 2014 Video Music Awards this Sunday and, TBH, we’re expecting no pants, but plenty of t-shirts. The guys have affinities for vintage tees, especially those of bands with VMA history.

So, what better way to brush up on your VMA knowledge than while staring at the chest region of four dudes from Australia? Yes, exactly—there is no better way. We present to you: VMA history through 5SOS’ t-shirt collection.

Things kick off, of course, with the creation of MTV in 1981. The first VMAs were in 1984—a full ten years before any member of 5SOS was born.

The Reviews Are In: Should You Stay For ‘If I Stay’?

by 18 mins ago

Every day is full of little decisions. Hair up or down? Red or blue? Black or white? Cream or milk? To “If I Stay” or not “If I Stay”?

We can’t help you with those first few (though blue does look really nice on you), but we may be of service for the last one. Chloe Grace Moretz’s latest big-screen turn, “If I Stay,” opens this weekend, and it looks like a real tear-jerker. Adapted from the young adult book of the same name by Gayle Forman, the plot follows Mia (Moretz) after a devastating accident that tears her family apart. In a coma and on the brink of death, an out-of-body version of herself looking in on present events, Mia must decide whether to stay. Yes, she’s deciding whether she’ll live or die.

The reviews for the movie are in. Let’s hear what top critics have to say about “If I Stay.”

More Moretz, Please
“Chloe Grace Moretz, the teenage girl in question. She has been good in ‘Kick-Ass’ and ‘Let Me In’ and even the remake of ‘Carrie’ (though the movie wasn’t much). If you have to watch someone weep her way through a movie, she’s as good a choice as anyone…Moretz is good throughout, bringing authentic feeling to sometimes inauthentic situations.” – Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic

Music To Their Ears
“Lots of musical names are dropped — Yo Yo Ma, Iggy Pop, Debbie Harry and The Ramones — as if the film is trying to establish some serious cred. Mostly ...

Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj And Jessie J Have Our Hearts Bang-Banging With These VMA Rehearsal Snaps

by 23 mins ago

Judging by the videos for Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” and Ariana Grande’s “Break Free,” and that teaser we saw for Jessie J‘s “Bang Bang,” the first-ever performance of the latter — featuring those three ladies — is primed to be bonkers.

We still don’t know what that Bang-Bang-rific experience, which will take place Sunday during the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, will entail, but the singers teased us last night with a passel of rehearsal snaps and tweets.

Jessie J — after announcing the impending release of her third album Sweet Talker — took to Instagram Thursday to share a photo of her and Grande duck-facing in the midst of their “Bang Bang” rehearsal.

Grande, for her part, simply tweeted, “vma rehearsal @jessiej @nickiminaj,” with a purple heart, to which Minaj answered, “Bye my little lady bugs!!!! Had so much fun with yall,” followed by a slew of kissy-faced emojis.

Consider our curiosity more than peaked — even though the ladies gave us scant few clues as to what Sunday’s performance will entail. In the meantime, we’re just going to continue to imagine these dancing cats bang-banging into the room.

It's up to you to decide the winners of the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards! Vote now and tune in Sunday, August 24, at 9/8c ET to see who wins at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Plus, get the latest updates from all your favorite VMA artists ...

7 ‘Harry Potter’ Veterans Who Need To Find ‘Fantastic Beasts’

by 1 min ago

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is beginning to look a lot like “Harry Potter.”

From “Potter” studio Warner Bros., written by “Potter” creator J.K. Rowling, and potentially directed by four-time “Potter” director David Yates, the upcoming “Potter” spinoff certainly has a lot in common with, you guessed it, “Potter.” And we hope the fun doesn’t stop there. As “Fantastic Beasts” continues taking shape, there are tons of other people and elements, fictional and otherwise, from the original “Potter” movies we hope to see on board the new series of films.

Here are seven of those “Potter” veterans we want to see in “Fantastic Beasts”:

1. John Williams

He composed and conducted the first three “Potter” films, including the series’ iconic theme. While he doesn’t need to compose the entire “Fantastic Beasts” score, it would be fantastic to have him on board to at least establish the central theme that will permeate the rest of the music.

2. Albus Dumbledore

Born in 1881, the late Hogwarts headmaster was alive and well (and young!) during the days of Newt Scamander. If there’s any one character from “Potter” lore who can and should pop up in “Fantastic Beasts” in a meaningful way, it’s Dumbledore, especially as a vibrant young wizard.

3. Warwick Davis

He’s played multiple roles in the “Potter” movies, as Professor Flitwick and as numerous goblins, including the greedy Griphook. Given the timeline of “Fantastic Beasts,” Davis wouldn’t be likely to reprise either of those roles, but he ...

‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’ Reviews: Is The Sequel Worth Seeing?

by 5 mins ago

“Sin City” is the place you go with your eyes open, or you don’t come out at all. But is it even worth going to in the first place?

The next film in the series, “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,” arrives in theaters this weekend, and critics seem divided right down the middle on whether or not it’s worth your time. What worked in the past seems to work this time around: Stylized action and visual storytelling, with tough guy performances, bone-breaking and blood-spilling action, and nudity aplenty. But for other critics, “A Dame to Kill For” feels like too much more of the same old story — and in the case of some critics, that’s a very bad thing indeed.

For the most part, however, reviews are widely positive for the performance (and the visage) of Eva Green, who plays titular dame Ava Lord, starring in her second Frank Miller-inspired project of the year — and as was the case with “300: Rise of an Empire,” it appears that Green steals the show in “A Dame to Kill For.”

Read on for a collection of “Sin City” reviews:

The Story of “Sin City”
“For Sin City fans, ‘A Dame to Kill For’ will likely feel like revisiting an old friend. As with the first, the film interweaves a collection of Frank Miller’s Sin City tales; two pre-existing – ‘Just Another Saturday Night’ and ‘A Dame to Kill For’ – and two original stories written specifically for the film – ‘The Long ...

Michael Clifford Of 5SOS Is My VMA Date, And That’s Final!

by 26 mins ago

Hey Emilee Lindner and Christina Garibaldi? If those are even your REAL NAMES. You’re taking Luke and Calum to the VMAs? That’s cute for you. But I’ve got my heart, eyes and claws set on the best member of 5SOS, and that would obviously be Michael Clifford.

You’d better hope there’s room for you guys in the limo VMA night, because our love’s gonna take up a lot of space. Here’s why the VMA performer and Artist To Watch and Best Lyric Video nominee is my date for the VMAs and my imaginary boyfriend.

He’s got flawless hair.

See??

Those puppy dog eyes!

That t-shirt collection!

THAT FACE!

He’s a pizza enthusiast. Which is great because I’m a carb enthusiast.

Who’s also fully capable of staring into my soul, which is great because I require a lot of that.

He’s so good at playing guitar that he doesn’t even have to stand up to play.

And he’s good at fighting crime.

And telling dad jokes.

He shares my views on household appliances.

microwave

And my love of cheese toasties.

He’s super open with his feelings.

I mean…

And his life’s gotten better since I came into it.

The Good, The Bad, The *NSYNC: The Best Boy Band Moments In VMA History

by 3 hours ago

Many boy bands have come and gone, but a lot of them left a mark on our hearts, our minds, the margins of our notebooks during study hall, and, of course, the VMAs.

There’s no doubt this year’s only headlining boy band, 5 Seconds Of Summer, will do the same — just don’t call them a boy band, OK?

What Is ISIS?

by 22 mins ago

President Obama pledged this week that the U.S. would be “relentless” in the wake of the beheading of an American journalist by the militants in Syria known as ISIS.

The president said that the video of a masked militant killing James Foley — who was kidnapped in Syria nearly two years ago — has “appalled” the world and will not deter America from its escalating military effort to root out terrorists in Iraq.

ISIS has also threatened to kill another captive journalist, Steven Sotloff, if the U.S. does not change its course in Iraq. “No faith teaches people to massacre innocents,” Obama said. On Thursday (August 21), it was revealed that U.S. special forces attempted to rescue Foley and other hostages earlier this summer after the terror group had demanded a $130 million ransom for his release.

Who Is ISIS?
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS, also known as ISIL) used to be known as Al Qaeda in Iraq. After the 2006 U.S. troop surge in Iraq seriously hampered the group’s ability to carry out terrorist actions, ISIS reorganized and began to rebuild its strength.

ISIS SoldiersMirror.co.uk

Are They Still Part Of Al Qaeda?
Al Qaeda broke ties with ISIS in February after Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri became frustrated with ISIS’s refusal to heed his orders to kill fewer Syrian civilians. The group is expanding its reach on the long border between Iraq and Syria, where the combination of the Syrian civil war and a weak government in Iraq ...

Carson Daly And Fiancée Welcome Baby Girl: Meet London Rose!

by 5 mins ago

Listen up, there’s a new voice in the Carson Daly home.

“The Voice” host and fiancée Siri Pinter welcomed a daughter, London Rose Daly, on Wednesday.

London, who weighed 8 lbs. and 11 ounces and measured 22 inches long, is the couple’s third after 2-year-old daughter Etta and 5-year-old son Jack.

Right up until the birth of their little bundle of joy, the couple was still juggling baby names.

“Rose was my grandma’s name,” Daly said via video on the Today Show. “Etta was Siri’s grandma’s name so we have a lot of family history in the names. Even when little London came out, we were still throwing out our last-minute short list, and London Rose Daly was the one.”

Daly and Pinter, a food blogger, have been engaged since June of last year.

Congratulations, Carson and Siri on your new baby girl!
