Lana Del Rey And Brian Wilson Are A Sad Song Dream Team

by 28 mins ago

Legendary Beach Boys producer Brian Wilson is teaming up with a whole team of pop stars for his brand-new album. When the Beach Boys reunion that began in 2012 was called off due to internal conflict, it looked like Wilson might shelve his new material.

It was a shock,” Wilson told Rolling Stone. “I was so proud of how the Boys were singing. Then it just ended. I was writing for the Boys, so I thought, ‘What am I gonna do without them?’”

Instead of calling it quits altogether, he re-grouped with new collaborators. Lana Del Rey, Kacey Musgraves, Frank Ocean and Zooey Deschanel have all been in the studio with Wilson working on his as-yet untitled album. Ocean rapped on a song called “Special Love” that is still unfinished, Kacey Musgraves did three takes for “Guess You Had to Be There” and Nate Ruess of fun. is also on a track.

The Ocean track might not make the album, but Wilson loved Nate’s voice, comparing him to his brother and fellow Beach Boys member, Carl Wilson.

As for Lana? She worked with Brian on a track called “Last Song,” which will serve as the album’s centerpiece. There’s a version with Wilson on lead vocals, and an alternate one with Del Rey as the primary vocalist. Wilson wrote the song about his sadness over the Beach Boys’ breakup.

Brian, we love you, but we’re rooting for Lana’s version! That kind of celebrity sadness seems ...

This Might Be The Best, Worst ‘Harry Potter’ Theory Ever

by 32 mins ago

If you believe, seven years after the publication of the seventh and final “Harry Potter” book, that there are no secrets of the wizarding world left to be explored, then you may want to grab hold of something before reading what we’re about to tell you.

There’s more. There is so much more. Specifically, there is a small but growing and very vocal contingent of truthers who have compelling evidence that Ron Weasley and Dumbledore are the same person.

Did you scream? Are you weeping? Did you peer through the tentacles of Cthulhu and see the entire Potterverse in one brilliant, horrible flash?

Like all theories worth theorizing about, this one has a portmanteau – “Ronbledore” – and devoted fanbase, most notable among them being The Toast writer Mallory Ortberg (who has dedicated herself to the Ronbledore cause with increasing, hilarious fervor.)

The hypothesis is as follows: that Dumbledore is, in fact, an aged Ron Weasley, who transported himself far into the past in an attempt to prevent the first rise of Lord Voldemort and its attendant tragedies from ever coming to pass.

Is it possible? Let’s just say the evidence is all there, as laid out compellingly in this 2004 post on a Harry Potter forum. There’s their shared history with Cockroach Clusters. There’s the significance of socks. There’s the fact that Young Dumbledore, as seen in flashback, has the same red hair as one Ron Weasley. And it also explains why time travel, which was treated so casually ...

Selena Gomez Clarifies Her Stance On Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

by 31 mins ago

After Selena Gomez‘s Instagram feed became rife with comments debating about the humanity of Israel’s attacks on Gaza, the singer posted a follow-up photo to let her fans know what she’s really thinking.

“And of course to be clear, I am not picking any sides. I am praying for peace and humanity for all!” she captioned a photo of a serene seaside sunset.

Gomez’s original Instagram post with “Pray For Gaza” polarized some of her fans, who threatened to unfollow her for seemingly supporting Gaza’s side.

Gomez spoke out about the fact that Israeli Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu ordered land, air and sea attacks on Gaza to attempt to destroy tunnels built by the Hamas, an Islamic terrorist organization, used to attack Israel. The order has caused Palestinian deaths, including children.

Other celebs like Rihanna and NBA star Dwight Howard have also come under fire for speaking out on the issue.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ Theme Song Gets The Royal Treatment

by 27 mins ago

Yes, “Game of Thrones” is a show that focuses on medieval royalty in a mythical, fictional kingdom. But that doesn’t mean that the hit show hasn’t found fans in IRL royalty—or at least, the royal guards!

A Reddit user posted this video of the Queen’s Guards in London performing the show’s theme song, and the live, dramatic rendition is enough to excite casual watchers and super fans alike.

The guards surprised the crowd outside of Buckingham Palace during the changing of the guards, and even if the in-person cheers were few and far between, The Internet as a collective is sure to go wild when they hear this.

HBO, have you heard this? Might be good to use in Season 5, just saying!

MTV Weekend Editor. Acts like Madonna but listens to Merle.

These Tattoos Will Make You So Jealous Your Flesh Will Tingle

by 17 mins ago

Photos by Radhika Marya

Chicago, IL – I may be biased, being a tattooed person currently hitting up Pitchfork Music Festival, but I’m going to go right ahead and say it – bias be damned! – the ink at Chicago’s most alt fest is pretty much the best to grace the flesh of any music fan.

During the first day of the fest, I wandered among the masses with my trusty photog, Radhika Marya, rudely interrupting folks while they grooved to Sharon Van Etten and The Haxan Cloak to ask them about their ink (which is a major faux pas, but now they’re on the Internet and therefore kind of famous so whatever!).

Check out our 8 favorite tats from day one and book an appointment with your local ink slinger ASAP because you’re jealous now, right?

1. Dolls And Tea

Christine from Buffalo, New York, is here to see Neutral Milk Hotel (aren’t we all?) but in the meantime she’s gracing passersby with her eclectic and glorious collection of adorable tattoos.

2. R2D2

Shawnedese, from Carbondale, Illinois, has an amazing array of “Star Wars” tattoos. He’s here to see Beck and also kind of looks like Beck (at least around the hair area).

3. Red Pepper

Shari hails from Durham, North Carolina, and is really stoked to see Perfect Pussy. We were really stoked to see that she had a pepper tattooed on her leg because what?! That’s some serious commitment to a seriously maligned veggie.

This Is What Missed Connections Look Like In Real Life

by 23 mins ago

Photos by Radhika Marya

Chicago, IL – I don’t know about you all, but I fall in love at least 10 times at every festival. (Hello, dude in the Metallica shirt! What’s your name, man grooving in a tweed jacket in the middle of July?) Luckily a gentleman named Craig has given us a list that we may use to find our lost future paramours. And for that we owe him many kitten kisses.

Well, Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival has done that dude one better – they have an IRL “Missed Connections” board. Analog-leaning folks rejoice!

Romantic that I am, I was pretty excited to stumble upon this massive board (pictured) studded with multi-colored slips of paper containing missives of lost love. Apparently, fest-goers can, if they like, peck their yearning letters on typewriters (because Pitchfork! Twee!). I, myself, struggled with the keys when I tried to write a letter to my lost youth, when I first attended this fest at age… well, never mind. Those with more nimble, non-arthritic, fingers may have better luck. But I digress…

If that special dude or lady sees your letter, they can hit up the volunteers on hand (who are way nice, by the way) who will stamp the slip of paper with the word “Connected.” Get this, a few hours into the first day of the festival there were already more than a few connected slips studding the board.

I may go add one myself right now… Watch out Monsieurs Metallica and Tweed!

Zac Efron Repels Down A Waterfall Shirtless… Because, Why Not?

by 1 min ago

Zac Efron is a man of few shirts. Whether it’s being ripped off at the MTV Movie Awards, or disappearing while horseback riding with Michelle Rodriguez, no one can contest that all shirts are literally repelled from his body.

The actor is yet-again finding himself shirtless, this time alongside Bear Grylls on top of a very high a cliff in the Catskills Mountains. Watch as the actor attempts to repel himself down the side of a waterfall, shirtless for no other reason than “abs.”

And if that wasn’t enough adventure for you, here’s a video of Zac making a heart-pounding crossing between two cliffs.

You can catch the rest of Efron’s shirtless adventure through the wild on the season premiere of “Running Wild with Bear Grylls,” on July 28 a 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Selena Gomez’s ‘Pray For Gaza’ Instagram Sparks International Fan Debate

by 11 mins ago

Selena Gomez has come under fire after she posted an Instagram message on Friday (July 18) that read “It’s About Humanity: Pray for Gaza,” with many of her fans vowing to unfollow her in protest.

The “Come & Get It” singer posted a message urging her followers to “pray for those families and babies today,” seemingly referring to the casualties of Israel’s ground attack on the volatile Palestinian region of Gaza.

But while her intention may have been to encourage peace — writing “Please always remember what’s important in life. It’s not any of this. We are here to help, inspire and love.” — the post left Selenators divided.

Instagram user nicolenourian wrote, “Are you serious Selena?… posting this goes against all your Jewish fans. I am so insulted and disgusted right now.” Lily.Kh kept it short: “Unfollowed.”

Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu ordered land, air and sea attacks on Gaza this week in an effort to destroy underground tunnels that Hamas — the Islamic terrorist organization in Gaza — has been using to attack Israel. According to reports, nearly 300 Palestinians have been killed, including around 80 children.

In addition to the recent tunnel attacks by Hamas on Israel, the attacks come less than a week after three Israeli teenagers were killed — allegedly by Hamas militants — after they were kidnapped in the West Bank.

Earlier this week, Rihanna came under similar fire after tweeting “#FreePalestine,” a message that a source told TMZ “was never meant to be ...

Zendaya Hopes New Aaliyah Star Doesn’t Face ‘Half The Hate’ She Did

by 5 mins ago

In the wake of the news that Nickelodeon actress Alexandra Shipp will be stepping in to play Aaliyah in the Lifetime biopic, Zendaya is explaining why, exactly, she dropped out of the role.

Although the Disney star’s initial casting was met by backlash, she said on Friday (July 18) that wasn’t the reasoning behind her exit.

Alexandra Shipp Cast In Role Of Aaliyah For Lifetime Movie Biopic

“Let me just explain something. The reason why I chose not to do the Aaliyah movie had nothing to do with the haters or the people telling me I couldn’t do it, I wasn’t talented enough, or I wasn’t black enough,” she said in an series of Instagram videos.

“The main reasons were the production value wasn’t there, there were complications with the music rights, and I just felt like it wasn’t being handled delicately considering the situation,” she continued. “And I tried my best to reach out to the family on my own, and I wrote a letter, but I was unable to do so therefore I felt not morally OK with moving forward with the project.”

“With all that being said, congratulations to the new woman playing Aaliyah,” she said of Shipp’s casting. “I only hope that she does not have to deal with half the hate I had to deal with. And remember that we are all human beings trying to do what we love to do. Let’s practice motivation and love, not discrimination and hate.”
