6 ‘Game Of Thrones’ Spin-Offs We’d Kill To See

by 30 mins ago

By Kristy Puchko

Game of Thrones” has wrapped up season four, leaving us bereft for months on end. So in the interim, we demand something full of sex, violence, gravy and Drunk Cersei. To that end, we’re pitching a slate of “Game of Thrones” spin-offs that would help us all through the dark days until season five finally arrives.

HotPie

Hot Pie has gone from a big mouth nearly gutted by Arya Stark in season one to a plucky and talented little cook…with big mouth. A cooking show/talk show would be perfection for this chatterbox chubster. He could chat with Westeros’ big names while showing us all how to make much-improved Dire Wolf-shaped bread and gravy. Because of course, you cannot give up on the gravy!

RamsayMXEC

I’ll be honest. I was thinking of pitching a cooking show starring Ramsay and Reek. But sausage jokes aside, who’d want to watch that? More true to the character of the Bastard of Bolton would be an obstacle course show. Think “Wipeout” where instead of falling into pools of mud or bath suds, you fell into a pit of spikes or sharks. That’s really more his style.

KeepingUpWithTheTyrells

Not so long ago, the Lannisters were thought to be Westeros’ wealthiest house. But the war’s ravaged their coffers, and the Tyrells are living large in King’s Landing. A “reality” show following the scheming matriarch Olenna, the beautiful but duplicitous Margaery, pretty knight Loras, and dopey dad Mace would ...

Ariana Grande Thanks Fans For Sending Well Wishes To Her Sick Grandfather

by 35 mins ago

Ariana Grande cut her time in New York short to spend time with her family in Florida for the 4th of July. Her grandfather has been ill, and he has been her number one priority lately. On Wednesday, she graced the famed TRL studio for “Total Ariana Live” to perform “Problem” and premiere “Break Free,” and earlier in the week she taped performances of “Problem” and “The Way” for Macy’s 4th Of July Spectacular 2014, but she put music stuff on hold to be with her grandpa.

Nicki Minaj Celebrated ‘Freedom’ At Philly Jam Last Night

by 1 min ago

Nicki Minaj was in top form at Philly Jam last night. Decked out in a gold fringed tank and some high-waisted black pants, she blazed from high-energy hits like “Super Bass” into her brand new heartbreaking ballad “Pills N Potions.” With The Roots as a backing band, Minaj’s new song got the full gospel treatment—especially from her talented backup singers.

But it wouldn’t be a Nicki show without some rap, especially given the straight hip-hop direction her latest releases have been going in. So she performed a medley of her new song with Soulja Boy (who sadly didn’t show up) “Yass B—–” into “Did It On Em” and finished out the trio of songs with “Beez In The Trap.” Since she was using a backing track for this section, watching The Roots bob onstage to Nicki’s live rapping was another highlight of the performance.

When it got to the section of “Beez In The Trap” that shouts out Philly, Nicki stopped the song dead. “It’s New York PHILLY!,” she emphasized to cheers. “This has always been one of my favorite places to be, since before my first album dropped. Everybody knows that. Happy birthday America, today we’re free from everybody that tried to hold us back last year.”

She skillfully tied the concept of personal freedom into the larger celebration of America’s independence, and obviously, it was the moment to break into her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded the Re-Up track “Freedom” and finally, “Moment ...

The 25 Most ’90s Moments From ‘Seinfeld’

by 20 mins ago

Ready to feel old? Ready to feel really really super old?

Well, like it or not, “Seinfeld” officially turned a quarter-century today (July 5), so yeah, you’re old. On July 5, 1989, what would soon become the defining sitcom of the 1990′s premiered on NBC, spawning nine seasons of glorious, “about nothing” comedy that still resonates today… most of it, anyway. The show’s hilariousness is timeless, but many of the show’s situations, references, and — of course — style moments were so ’90s it hurts. (In the best possible way.)

Need proof? Here are 25 of our favorite, most wonderfully ’90s “Seinfeld” moments:

1. “The Couch”

patton-oswald-senifleNBC

George spends an entire episode trying to rent a VHS of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” — though the episode has a very 2010′s spin in that one of the video store clerks is played by Patton Oswalt.

2. “The Comeback”
Speaking of video store clerks (RIP), Elaine dates one (played by future “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” actor and current “Hunger Games — Mockingjay” writer Danny Strong) in “The Comeback.”

3. “The Junk Mail”

If you grew up in the northeast United States in the ’90s (raises hand), you undoubtedly remember the now-defunct electronics store “Nobody Beats the Wiz.” Well, so does Elaine, since she once dated “The Wiz” himself — a fact which was discovered by Jerry, on a VHS tape.

4. “The English Patient”
Everyone loves this 1996 Ralph Fiennes/Juliette Binoche romantic drama, minus Elaine. It’s a thing.

5. “The Raincoats”

Here’s Some Patriotic Goats Singing The National Anthem

by 22 mins ago

There’s not really much to add to this thing of Internet tomfoolery that’s going to make it any better. This video was made by an organization called “World Wide Interweb” which kind of says it all.

There are goats bleat-singing this great nation’s National Anthem. Because what’s more American than a bunch of farm animals being slapdashed together for no good reason other than to make us giggle? Maybe if there was a bald eagle involved?

But otherwise, we’re at a bit of a loss.

Just drink it in you guys. It’s what our forefathers would’ve wanted.

‘MURICA, you guys. ‘MURICA. Goat bless America forever and ever.

Broken ‘Arrow’: Stephen Amell Is Not In ‘Batman V Superman’

by 28 mins ago

It seems that every superhero in the known DC Universe will appear in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Every superhero, except for the Green Arrow.

Despite some rumors to the contrary, actor Stephen Amell does not have a role in director Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman,” according to the man himself. The “Arrow” star took to Facebook to let it be known loud and clear that he doesn’t have anything to do with the upcoming superhero flick.

“I appreciate all the support and enthusiasm, but not everything I post is a cryptic indicator that I’m going to be in Batman V Superman,” he wrote to his fans. “I’m not going to be in Batman V Superman.”

If you really want to get cute, you can argue that Amell says “Batman V Superman,” which isn’t the film’s title; it’s “Batman v Superman,” with a lowercase “v.” Let that fuel the flame a little longer, if you’re really desperate to see Amell’s Oliver Queen up against Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent and Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne.

In reality, though, Amell’s not likely to pop up in “Dawn of Justice.” He’s busy, busy, busy with “Arrow,” entering its third season on The CW. To that end, Amell says that playing Oliver Queen on the small-screen is more than enough of a reward.

“Playing Arrow on television isn’t a consolation prize,” he wrote. “We play the definitive versions of our characters in the DC Universe.”

“Arrow” returns on October 8, with “Batman v Superman” ...

USA! USA! US-Meh: Millennials Less Keen On Symbols Of Patriotism

by 17 mins ago

So. The New York Times is reporting that young Americans (read: you and me) are far less patriotic than our elders, and that American patriotism over the last several decades has been in decline.

But that shouldn’t really be all that surprising to anyone.

In a 2012 inquiry from American National Election Study (A.N.E.S.), the overall feeling of “hell yeah, America!” one gets when viewing the ol’ stars and bars on display was found to be very high across all age groups — no surprise, Americans love being from America — about 79 percent, with 95 percent of the participants in the study agreeing that they at least like, if not love, America.

The real difference can be seen once you break it down generationally. According to the Times, “81 percent of the Silent Generation (those who are 69 to 86 years old in 2014) love America while only 58 percent of millennials (18 to 33 years old) feel the same.” Additionally, “78 percent of the older generation consider their American identity to be extremely important. … [But] only 45 percent of young adults define themselves this way.”

Older Americans in our parents and grandparents’ generations are highly devoted to symbols of our freedom and democracy, like the flag and what it represents. But Old Glory just doesn’t do it for us younger folk, as we’re more into actionable properties of what it means to be an American, like equality and opportunity for all.

Considering how both those things are currently in ...

Whose Voice Is That In The New ‘Doctor Who’ Trailer?

by 18 mins ago

It may not be very patriotic of us to give a nod to our OG rulers the Brits on Independence Day, but dammit when a new teaser trailer for the eighth season of “Doctor Who” rolls out, regardless of the who/what/where/when/why/how, you pay attention.

It’s The Doctor, you guys! Time and space are irrelevant when his TARDIS wheezes ’round our way.

The Peter Capaldi-fronted new iteration of the universe’s most ubiquitous alien is set to hit television screens on August 23rd, and this teaser — along with that other one — leave us with little more than questions.

Is that Davros (creator of the Doctor’s arch-enemy, the Daleks) talking to the Doctor? Why can he see into the Doctor’s soul? Is his so-called beauty really debilitated by hatred? Isn’t that what the 50th anniversary was supposed to squash? And why is the Doctor’s right heart smaller than his left — or are we merely seeing things?

Just like the TARDIS, sometimes questions are bigger on the inside. Ooo-Wee-ooo!

Too much exuberance for one person. Follow her on Twitter @alicialutes.

Caesar Celebrates Independence In New ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Trailer

by 29 mins ago

There’s a surprising amount of patriotism in the new trailer for “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” the upcoming sequel directed by Matt Reeves. On second thought, maybe it’s not so surprising, given the timing of the trailer’s release.

Marking the Fourth of July, Fox has released a new “Dawn” trailer, featuring footage of a battered, almost completely human-free Earth contrasted against some haunting words from the late President John F. Kennedy:

“On this fourth day of July, we who are gathered declare now our vow to do our part and to regard any threat to the peace or freedom of one as a threat to the peace and freedom of all.”

Empowering words in the proper context, but outside of that context? Pure terror. Especially when measured against images of humans being marched around at gunpoint, while armies of apes gather around to reclaim the remnants of civilization. If the actual movie is as chilling as this “patriotic” teaser, then “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is certain to deliver.

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” arrives on July 11.”
