What Did Chris Brown Talk To Ty Dolla $ign About The Night He Got Out Of Jail?

by 06/04/14

Even though he was behind bars for the last few months, Chris Brown was still able to score a chart-topper with “Loyal,” which reached the top slot on Billboard’s Rhythmic charts and No. 9 on the Hot 100.

Breezy was released from prison early Monday morning, and one of his first acts as a free man was a call to Ty Dolla $ign, who wrote the smash.

“He just hit me up, too; last night he got out,” the California native told MTV News on Monday, just hours after his performance at Summer Jam. “We got some other songs that we already did, and some more stuff with Chris we gonna do.”

And how did that convo play out? It was a celebratory one, not surprisingly. “He was like, ‘We got that number one, n—a!’” Ty laughed.

Don’t be surprised if that’s not their last hit, either.

“After ['Loyal'], that’s when we linked up, and we just started doing a whole bunch of sh–,” he revealed, adding that they’ve got “a lot” on the way. “I’m featured on it; other sh– that’s for him — everything.”

Those collaborations could end up on any number of projects, from Chris’ album, X, to Ty’s Atlantic Records debut, Free TC, due later this year, to his upcoming mixtape, Sign Language, set to hit the Net this summer.

“I got this song called ‘N—as Don’t Know,’ and [Big Sean] killed it,” he added, delving further into what’s on deck for the mixtape. “Me and Rich Homie got a ...

Are Cameron Diaz And Benji Madden Really Dating? See For Yourself

by 06/04/14

New couple alert!

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden have been sparking dating rumors lately, but on Tuesday, the duo sort of confirmed they were a couple as they were spotted taking a walk and holding hands through the West Village in New York City after grabbing some coffee.

EXCLUSIVE: **PREMIUM RATES APPLY****NO DAILY MAIL ONLINE**Cameron Diaz seen hand in hand with new boyfriend Benji Madden in NYC

They’ve kept their reported romance under the radar, with Benji — who just released the song “We Are Done” with brother Joel as The Madden Brothers, not Good Charlotte — playing coy about Cameron while talking with Ryan Seacrest on his radio show recently.

“Well, Ryan, there’s only one way to find out.” He continued, “You’ve got to play Ryan’s Roses…that’s still a radio phenomenon.”

US Weekly first reported that the two were an item last month after being set up by Joel’s wife, Nicole Richie, who is supposedly a close friend of Cameron’s.

‘Arrow’ Star Katie Cassidy Gives Us The ‘Star Wars’ Crossover We Never Knew We Wanted

by 06/04/14

Many things come to mind whilst staring at this photo of Katie Cassidy and her new friend Chewbacca.

Chewbaccaaaa

First and foremost, they’re rocking the exact same shades of ombre, and therefore probably share a stylist. Then there’s the fact that Chewie looks about as high as Laurel Lance did during at least two thirds of the second season of “Arrow,” so maybe that’s why he just blue himself.

But third, and certainly most exciting for genre crossover enthusiasts and fan fiction writers everywhere, is that this is the DC/”Star Wars” crossover we’ve all been waiting for (even if we never knew it). We only wish that Patton Oswalt’s filibustering character from “Parks and Recreation” was a real live person, because he deserves to look at this photo.

A real go-getter. Follow Shaunna on Twitter @ShaunnaLMurphy.

Pharrell Is ‘Genuinely Sorry’ For His Native American Headdress Cover

by 06/04/14

When a special-edition cover of Elle U.K. featuring Grammy-winning producer Pharrell started to make the rounds, the Internet wondered: Did he really think it was a good idea to “dress up” in a Native American headdress?

Now, looking back, Pharrell doesn’t think it was. The super-producer issued a formal apology on Wednesday (June 4), just as the cover started generating serious backlash on Twitter and as the hashtag #notHappy — a spin on his chart-topping hit — went viral.

“I respect and honour every kind of race, background and culture,” he said in a statement to Buzzfeed. “I am genuinely sorry.”

According to India Country Today Media Network, the original post on Elle‘s website read, “We persuaded ELLE Style Award winner Pharrell to trade his Vivienne Westwood mountie hat for a native American feather headdress in his best ever shoot.”

They have now updated it to read, “Continuing our tradition of featuring cult male icons on collector’s edition covers we persuaded ELLE Style Award winner Pharrell to collaborate with us on his best ever shoot.”

Lana Del Rey’s ‘Ultraviolence’ Will Give You Goosebumps

by 06/04/14

Lana Del Rey is out with the title track from her upcoming record, Ultraviolence, and it’s the spookiest jam we’ve heard this year.

The jam, which references The Crystals’ “He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss)” — the song title is quoted in the chorus — tells the tale of a typical Lana Del Rey romantic relationship: broken, failed and painful.

Being a Lana Del Rey song, there also seems to be a literary reference tucked in the lyrics: “Ultraviolence/ I can hear sirens, sirens/ He hit me and it felt like a kiss/ I can hear violins, violins.”

According to Clare Preston-Pollitt, events and marketing officer at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, the word “ultraviolence,” coined in Burgess’ “A Clockwork Orange,” could have been inspired by a passage in Vladimir Nabokov’s “Lolita” (a.k.a. one of Del Rey’s biggest inspirations).

“It could be that Burgess had been influenced by a passage in Nabokov’s ‘Lolita’ where the narrator examines the word ‘violence’ and notes that the word exists next to the word ‘violet’ and ‘violin’ etc. in the dictionary,” she said.

As you can, Lana mirrors that exploration in her track, showing the close — and sometimes very dangerous — distance between love and pain.

‘The Giver’ Trailer: Now That’s More Like It

by 06/04/14

The Dude abides, but now he abides over books and all the knowledge of extreme pain and extreme joy in the closed community he lives in.

Jeff Bridges stars as the titular character in “The Giver,” the upcoming adaptation of Lois Lowry’s classic Newbury Prize-winning novel. In this, the third trailer for the movie, the action is mostly in black and white, contributing to the feeling of restriction and oppressive sameness represented in the book.

See, poor Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) lives in a place simply known as the Community, a friendly neighborhood where everything is black and white and anything different is forcibly shunned. Jonas takes daily injections to moderate his mind and dull any of the urges he has to take risks or reject his surroundings — until he meets the Giver and stops taking them. See, Jonas is to be the Receiver, the next keeper of memory and knowledge in the Community. With its privileges — what the heck is happening to that apple? Oh, it’s red — come painful truths, like what exactly happens to those citizens who dare to be different.

Oh, and he also finds out what Meryl Streep is like when she’s really, really pissed.

Check out the new trailer above.

“The Giver” hits theaters August 15.

Emily Blunt Is Our Next Great Action Hero

by 06/04/14

Perhaps the most surprising thing about “Edge of Tomorrow” — apart from the movie’s great sense of humor — is how it cedes many of its badass moments to Emily Blunt and not its leading man Tom Cruise.

Cruise’s Cage eventually becomes a peer to Blunt’s battle-repeating Rita thanks to the movie’s “Groundhog Day”-like conceit, but not before establishing one of the best movie heroines in recent memory.

A lot of that has to do with Blunt’s stellar performance. She’s everything you could want from a hero: tough, smart and vulnerable. Rita is nearly as central to the story as Cage, without getting pigeonholed into being just his love interest. In fact, because of the story’s day-long time frame, there are only a few moments of actual romance, so most of the run time is spent establishing how tough Rita is.

And Blunt absolutely sells it, but that isn’t too surprising, since she’s been uniformly great since her breakout in “The Devil Wears Prada.” Her turn in “Edge of Tomorrow” makes it perfectly clear why Marvel Studios has been so eager to work with her for years.

The connection between Blunt and the house of Iron Man dates all the way back to the second outing of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark when she was originally cast as Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow. She eventually dropped out of that film do “Gulliver’s Travels” with Jack Black.

Marvel tried again to bring Blunt into the fold with “Captain America: The First ...

Who’s The Kanye Of Country Music? We Broke Down Country’s Hip-Hop Doppelgangers

by 06/04/14

The 2014 CMT Music Awards are tonight (June 4) at 8/7 p.m. on CMT. If you know country, then you know that. But for those not in the know, the world of country music can be as confusing as jumping into “Game Of Thrones” in season 3, episode 9. What’s missing? Context! Here, we’ve compiled a handy reference guide to understanding country stars based on their parallels in the hip-hop world.

Tim McGraw = Jay Z

Tim and Jay
In addition to being titans in their respective genres, these two are also both avid sports fans. Jay Z’s a certified sports agent and McGraw is a minority owner of the Nashville Kats arena football team. Oh, and they’re both half of a power couple.

Faith Hill = Beyonce

Faith and Beyonce
Speaking of power couples, Faith Hill is the woman beside McGraw and a veritable powerhouse in her own right. Like Beyoncé, she’s been known to duet with her man, but also has an impressive list of hit solo singles under her belt. Both women are often noted for their business savvy and pop-culture influence. And neither of them is too hard on the eyes.

Toby Keith = Kanye West

Toby and Kanye
It’s hard to imagine anyone giving Kanye a run for his insane amount of money when it comes to having a … very healthy self-image, but Toby finds a way. West may contend that he’s a legend in his own time, but Keith ...

Common Signs To Def Jam, Announces Album Release Date

by 06/04/14

Ever since Common’s debut album, 1992′s Can I Borrow A Dollar?, the Chicago rapper has worked frequently with producer No I.D. (known during those early days as Immenslope). His last album, 2011′s The Dreamer/The Believer, was produced entirely by No I.D. And now, the two have officially linked, as Common has signed with Artium/Def Jam Recordings, where the producer is Executive Vice President.

Their first order of business will be releasing the 42-year-old’s upcoming album, Nobody’s Smiling. The project is reportedly inspired by the violence that is plaguing his native Chi-Town, and will hit stores July 22. The first single, “Kingdom,” featuring Vince Staples, dropped last week.

“I’m honored to team up with No I.D. and be a part of the Artium and Def Jam family,” Com said in a statement release by Def Jam. “Creating this album and signing to Def Jam feels like a new beginning for me. I feel like a new artist because I created this album with the purpose to give back to my city and to the culture of hip hop. Def Jam is part of the foundation of hip hop and being able to work with No I.D. was returning to my foundation now with new energy and new hunger.”

“Common and I have a long history of making great music together,” No I.D. added. “His rich legacy and robust talent are perfect additions to the Def Jam family. It’s particularly significant that he’s coming under our roof for his 10th album as a ...
