In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney continue development of multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga. The newest director to come on board is Josh Trank.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”

Trank states, “The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”

Trank captured imaginations worldwide with his critically lauded directorial debut Chronicle, a fresh and engaging take on the superhero genre. Trank is currently at work on The Fantastic Four for 20th Century Fox.

People are #NotHappy with Pharrell today.

The producer/singer appears on a special edition July cover of Elle UK wearing a Native American headdress, and the backlash hit Twitter on Wednesday (June 4). Some users are opposing the photo, taken by Doug Inglish, arguing that “headdresses are not costumes.”

According to Indian Country Today Media Network , Elle.com posted on it’s website: “We persuaded ELLE Style Award winner Pharrell to trade his Vivienne Westwood mountie hat for a native American feather headdress in his best ever shoot.” The Vivienne Westwood hat is in reference to the stylish hat the “Happy” singer has been sporting since Grammy night.

Elle.com has since taken down that quote, now saying only, “Continuing our tradition of featuring cult male icons on collector’s edition covers we persuaded ELLE Style Award winner Pharrell to collaborate with us on his best ever shoot.”

Pharrell, who has reportedly said that he has Native American ancestry has nevertheless stirred up controversy.

Users also started the hashtag #nothappy to vent that this pic is not only disrespectful, but a display of cultural appropriation.

Jonny “Itch” Fox — a.k.a. iTCH — is going “Pleasantville” all over his new video for “Another Man,” off of his debut album, The Deep End.

As the former frontman of U.K. ukulele punk rock band The King Blues, iTCH knows a thing or two about melding and mixing genres. “Another Man” — directed by Frank Borin — is yet another of his musical/visual melting pots.

The video kicks off with iTCH falling asleep in front of the TV, on which a black and white late night show is playing. After dozing off, the musician is sucked into the TV, where a chorus of women are singing — ala The Supremes — about how they’ve found another man, “And he ain’t nothing like you.”

“You,” apparently, is iTCH, as he enters a musical battle with the singers, rapping and turning everything in the room to color with a touch of his hand. Finally, though, it seems the black and white women win out, as iTCH is rendered newspaper print-colored once again, waking up on the couch still devoid of color.

On last night’s episode of “Awkward,” Tamara took a brief hiatus from the boys and jumped into the lady pond with Luke’s college roommate. While the experience sure was a memorable (and orgasmic-filled) one for the Palos Hills High School president, she didn’t quite switch teams afterward: T declared herself as “maybe hetero-flexible” to Jenna, but concluded that, for now, hooking up with the same sex “might not be for me.”

Tamara’s future sexual preference may be uncertain, but that didn’t stop Jeanine Mason, the actress who portrayed lesbian Southern Coast University student Shane, from sharing an intimate photo of the fiery redhead from the set — and between the sheets.

“Waking up to my sweet lips @JillianRoseReed. Oh how I enjoyed working @MTVAwkward. #Awkward,” Jeanine tweeted with the snapshot of her sleeping beauty…and a few camera guys capturing the magic moment on film. Jeanine also declared that the duo “are adorable together,” to which Jillian responded, “#girlkisses.”

Maybe the pair won’t have another romantic rendezvous onscreen, but the actresses sure make adorable gal pals IRL!

Turns out that you can only leak so many photos from the “Star Wars: Episode VII” set before J.J. Abrams has something to say about it.

A tweet from Bad Robot suggests that the master of the mystery box is taking the steady stream of leaks in stride.

For those of you who might be confused, the checkered piece of metal in the background of Abrams’ note is the hologram chess board that appeared in the original “Star Wars.”

Not that it needs to be said after the latest round of photos from TMZ, but this is Abrams’ way of saying “Of course the Millennium Falcon is in ‘Episode VII.’ Because what’s the point of continuing the series otherwise?”

The tweet is a fairly lighthearted response, especially from a director who has been burned by leaks before.

Maybe this is the beginning of a new Abrams era, one that’s a little cooler about letting info from set slip to the eager fans. Hopefully?

By the time you finish watching the trailer for “Very Good Girls,” you will be raring to torpedo your best-friendship-forever in order to have a hot summer fling with your local ice cream man. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

The film stars Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen as a pair of just-graduated high school besties on a quest to lose their V-cards before college, and now, the very first trailer has hit the web before its June 25 release.

Everything we’ve heard about “Very Good Girls” suggests that we’re in for some fairly steamy action between the leading ladies and the very hunky Boyd Holbrook, who stars as the ice-cream-selling artist who (whoops!) both girls end up falling for. Not only is Dakota Fanning clearly making out with him in the trailer — in some sort of deliciously filthy artist loft, no less — but Fanning also confirmed last year that this movie includes her first onscreen nude scene.

“I was newly 18, so yeah, it was, it’s kind of a sensitive thing, but it’s a part of life,” Fanning told MTV News at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

Meanwhile, the opening scene from the trailer shows Fanning and Olsen running topless and shrieking into the ocean, leading us to the question of whether “Very Good Girls” might actually be the most nude movie made this year. We’ll find out soon enough!

It is a truth universally acknowledged that once you’ve appeared on the internet, rapping, wearing a giant frog costume, people are always going to want you to do it again… as Amanda Seyfried discovered when she sat down for an interview with BBC Radio 1xtra, where she was on the air with Seth McFarlane to promote “A Million Ways to Die in the West.”

There was no frog headpiece available, sadly, but after learning that her “Les Miserables” co-star Hugh Jackman had recently rapped on the same program, Amanda was game to lay down a few a cappella lines of 5ive’s “It’s All Over.”

Not bad, not bad. But, let’s be real, not her finest performance either. NEVER FORGET, AMANDA SEYFRIED.

Although the MTV News crew has been trying valiantly not to totally lose all control over those several dozen photos leaked from the set of the new “Star Wars” film, not everyone in the nerdosphere could be quite as reserved – as Conan O’Brien proved last night.

Dubbed the “Star Wars Nerdgasm Choir,” this video from Monday’s episode of “Conan” shows fans ’round the world creating a great disturbance in the force, as they pant and moan over the sight of an under-construction Millenium Falcon to the tune of “The Imperial March.”

We’re still reeling from the absolutely bonkers ending to the last episode of “Game of Thrones,” but if you can believe it, things are about to get even crazier. For seasons of the show, the threat of the Wildlings attacking The Wall has been omnipresent, and on Sunday (June 8), that threat becomes a reality.

Seriously, we cannot even deal with how epic this episode looks, and as fans of the show know, the team always saves the most draw-dropping, shocking moments for the ninth episode of the season. Guess which number episode “The Watchers On The Wall” is?

And if these new pics from the hour weren’t good enough, it’s directed by Neil Marshall, who previously did “Blackwater,” a.k.a. The Battle of King’s Landing, a.k.a. the biggest freakin’ episode the show has ever done.

So point being, our expectations for Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) and the Night’s Watch’s defense of Castle Black are very, very high.

Oh, and this pic? Of Rose Leslie as Ygritte attacking Castle Black? You’re breaking our hearts, guys:

They say three’s a charm. Kourtney Kardashian is reportedly expecting baby number three with longtime boyfriend Scott Disick. According to US Weekly the oldest Kardashian sister is only a few months along and the couple will welcome their new bundle of joy in December.

The pregnancy comes a little less than two years after the couple welcomed their daughter Penelope, who turns 2 next month. They also have a son, Mason, who is 4.

“It was planned,” a source told US. “[Kourtney] wants to have a handful of kids.”

The Kardashians have yet to comment on the pregnancy news, but Kourtney may have a hard time hiding her baby bump as she beats the summer heat in the Hamptons. Kourtney and Khloe are currently filming their new E! show “Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons” in the upscale New York neighborhood. The sisters were spotted out together on Tuesday grabbing lunch at Zach Erdem’s 75 Main.

The E! spin-off will follow the reality star sisters as they open their DASH boutique’s first pop-up shop in the coastal community and relocate DASH’s SoHo store in New York City.
