17 GIFs That Sum Up Our Obsession With ‘Orange Is The New Black’

by 06/04/14

In case you have been living under a rock or for some unholy reason do not have Netflix, know that the de facto breakout hit of 2013, “Orange is the New Black,” will return on Friday (June 6) with 13 brand new episodes. We’re excited. You should be too. Here’s why:

1. It understands the healing power of tacos.

2. It brings up issues most of us have never thought about, like the devastating concept of having a child in prison.

3. It shows women bonding and working out their issues instead of being horrible to each other.

4. It has a complex, often-unlikable audience surrogate, who occasionally has moments of brilliance that make us take a good, hard look at ourselves.

5. Try as they may, no one has ever used a magic chicken as a metaphor for the necessity of hope so effectively. NO ONE.

6. It gives us a lot of laughs via Crazy Eyes, but also makes her a human being instead of a punch line. (At least after episode three.)

7. Can you imagine a world without TASYTEE?

8. Seriously, though.

9. Have you ever seen a friendship like this one on TV before? No, you have not.

10. Speaking of friendship, it also teaches us how to effectively get rid of our enemies.

11. It features a real transgendered actress instead of a dude in a wig. And she is spectacular.

12. It reintroduced the ...

‘Batman Eternal #9′ Reveals A New Member Of Alfred’s Family

by 06/04/14

Every week, MTV News is breaking down the big issues in DC Comics’ weekly series “Batman Eternal.” This week we talked over e-mail with writer John Layman, who explained the genesis of the Japanese influenced Batcave, the fate of Catwoman and just what’s up with that big character reveal on the last page:

MTV News: Batman of Japan’s “Batcave” is a fun riff on the original… How much talk was there about designing that, and should we expect that every Batcave around the world has a different giant coin and local lizard?

BME_9_10

John Layman: Not much discussion. I threw it out there in the script and nobody objected. Simple as that. Seemed like a fun thing to do, and I think it would be awesome to visit various Batman Inc. “Batcaves” and see the cool ways each is similar– and different.

MTV: Shen Fang gives up pretty easily… Was it the punch, or the breaking of the sword that really got him?

BME_9_14

Layman: Yeah, in retrospect, I probably should have changed the dialogue, because it does come off as a pretty abrupt about-face on Fang’s part. My intention was to give the scene a little more length, and it’s very likely it was cut down from something bigger.

Fact is, “Eternal” is a big book with a lot of stuff going on at any point, and it moves at a brisk pace. In this case, maybe a little too brisk, and I’ll take the bullet for it not being paced ...

Katy Perry Reveals How Long She’s Gone Without Having Sex

by 06/04/14

Ever wonder what Katy Perry‘s secret is to getting a guy? No, it’s not her looks, killer style or her voice: It’s crystals.

Katy sat down with Chelsea Handler for the July issue of Cosmopolitan and she divulged to the E! talk show host the reason she has such a hard time staying single.

“I carry a lot of rose quartz, which attracts the male,” Katy said according to E! News. “Maybe I need to calm it down with the amethyst.”

Not surprisingly, while chatting with Chelsea, the topic of sex came up. The comedian boldly asked how long the “Roar” singer has gone without sex.

“Maybe six months or a year,” Katy answered. “I don’t stay single for long.”

The singer, who stays away from one-night-stands, also revealed that when she’s in a relationship she’s not “super strict” when it comes to her sex life.

“I’m not like Professor Higgins with my sex life. I’m not super strict. For me, the most important thing about sex is connection,” Katy added. “If I could bottle up oxytocin -— that chemical that’s released when you’re having sex — and put it in a new perfume, I would do it for sure.”

Perry wasn’t off the hook when it came to talking about past boyfriends, though. She answered the question on a lot of KatyCats’ minds: Would she ever get back with John Mayer?

“I know it sounds really hippie-sh–, but I’m living in the now and not fantasizing about the future ...

‘Insurgent’ Casts Four’s Mom In ‘Divergent’ Sequels

by 06/04/14

Warning: Major spoilers for “Insurgent” and “Divergent” ahead.

She fought a creepy little ghost girl in “The Ring,” and now she’s fighting a war in post-Apocalyptic Chicago. Naomi Watts has been cast as Evelyn, the leader of the Factionless and, shhhhhh, the long-lost mother of Four (Theo James), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Insurgent,” the sequel to “Divergent” and the second in the planned quartet based on Veronica Roth’s bestselling Young Adult series, began shooting last week in Atlanta. Watts’ character, Evelyn, features heavily in the three remaining installments of the series.

Evelyn is the toughened leader of the Factionless, having escaped a life with the abusive Marcus (Ray Stevenson), a leader of the Abnegation faction and father of Four, a member of Dauntless. After the Dauntless’ brains are hijacked by a chemical developed by the Erudite, led by Janine Matthews (Kate Winslet), the faction system is collapsing and on the brink of war.

Of course, it should be exciting to see Four discover that his mother didn’t die in childbirth when he was a kid, as he was told, but has instead been hovering on the periphery of his life this entire time, waiting for her moment to strike the faction system in its very heart.

Watts joins new additions Suki Waterhouse and Jonny Weston in the cast, as well as returning stars Shailene Woodley, James, Winslet and others.

“Insurgent” is due in theaters March 20, 2015.

Mariah Carey Finds #1 Spot ‘Elusive’

by 06/04/14

When Mariah Carey named her 14th studio album Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse, she probably did mean it literally. But, with the exception of the odd holiday album, Mimi’s latest will do something few of her other releases have done lately: miss a #1 debut and set a new sales low.

Frozen Out By Coldplay
Sure, six of Mariah’s albums have debuted at #1 with sales above the 100,000 (or 200,000, or 300,000) mark, but things were a bit more low-key this time around. In fact, Chanteuse came in at #3 on the Billboard 200 album chart with modest sales of 58,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. That’s the smallest opening for one of her non-holiday albums since SoundScan started tracking data in 1991. The harder pill to swallow, though, is that she was beat out at #1 by Coldplay, whose Ghost Stories plunged 78 percent in week two to nearly 83,000, but still hung on to the top spot.

In fact, she also came in behind country singer Brantley Gilbert’s Just As I Am, which fell 69 percent in week two to 65,000.

Where Mahonies At?
Austin Mahone‘s The Secret EP debuted at #5 on sales of nearly 46,000, which is really all he ever needs. Further down the chart, Cher Lloyd’s Sorry I’m Late was just outside the top 10 at #12 (17,000) and Robyn’s EP with Royksopp, Do It Again, landed at #14 (15,000).

Still ‘Fancy,’ Still #1

Lady Gaga Goes Surfing With Her Batpig: See The Pics

by 06/04/14

It’s official, I’m 100 percent completely jealous of a dog.

Lady Gaga‘s adorable pup, Asia, has got the life — from private planes to posing with T.I. to hanging out in bars. But on Tuesday, Gaga and Asia may have had their most precious outing yet.

Gaga, who’s in San Diego for her artRave: The ARTPOP Ball Tour, took a trip to the beach with her french bulldog and had some fun in the sun. Mother Monster uploaded a pic of “Me and my Piggy” hitting the ocean to do a little surfing. Asia was perched on the front of the board, while Gaga was paddling. Luckily, the water seemed pretty calm.

Me and my Piggy 💓 went surfing this morning ⚓️🌊

The “Applause” singer also shared another photo of Asia taking a nap while soaking in the rays “with her moms shirt” and taking a dip in the water.

Asia loves naps on the beach with her moms shirt.🌞

“They say BatPigs can’t swim but my little girl can! Ears out of the water and everything! She loves it! #BatShark,” Gaga captioned the photo.

Apparently their beach adventure was a bit exhausting since later on that day Gaga posted a pic of the two, both wearing eye masks, going to sleep.

Lana Del Rey Thinks Feminism Is Boring

by 06/04/14

“Feminism” has been a word perched on the lips of the entertainment set of late, with some, like Shailene Woodley, denying their involvement, and others — many others — grabbing the label and wearing it proudly. Lana Del Rey, on the other hand, prefers to talk about something — anything — else.

Del Rey’s music has evoked almost as much discussion among pundits with regard to feminism as the music itself has among critics, with some that saying the women she represents in her music are weak, powerless and totally reliant on men. She does model herself on Lolita, after all. Others, however, opine that Del Rey is just embracing another kind of sexuality

When asked about her feminist tendencies in a cover story in The Fader, the typically elusive musician was true to form.

“For me, the issue of feminism is just not an interesting concept,” she said. “I’m more interested in, you know, SpaceX and Tesla, what’s going to happen with our intergalactic possibilities. Whenever people bring up feminism, I’m like, god. I’m just not really that interested.”

“My idea of a true feminist is a woman who feels free enough to do whatever she wants,” she added.

She was also candid about the potentially objectionable fact that she’s often being choked in her videos — “I like a little hardcore love” — and the fact that she had an affair with a record executive.

“I had a seven-year relationship with the head of this label, and he was ...

Any ‘Metal Gear Solid’ Movie Needs These Eight Things

by 06/04/14

After years of development, it seems like a movie based on the “Metal Gear Solid” series is finally moving forward. Deadline reported yesterday that “The Kings of Summer” director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is in early talks to bring Solid Snake to the big screen.

Like any video game adaptation, a movie based on this series is a difficult proposition for a number of reasons. The games from creator Hideo Kojima play increasingly like movies with extended cut scenes involving clones, conspiracies and alternate histories, but there are few game series that feel as tailor-made for adaptation as “Metal Gear Solid.”

If Sony does move ahead with “Metal Gear Solid,” there are a few things fans need to see the make a bona fide Solid Snake adventure that was worth the wait.

Solid Snake
Solid_Snake
The hero of the story is its most crucial element and likely the one that’s easiest to screw up. Snake isn’t just a generic black ops spy guy. Yes, he’s the ultimate badass, but he’s got a brain. It’s easy to mock “Metal Gear Solid” for its lengthy (and often cheesy) monologues about war, humanity and the meaning of life, but those are essential to the spirit of the game. Snake needs to be the same thoughtful stealth expert with a really messed up family situation.

CODEC
Snake’s go-to method of communication is a series staple and a must-have for any movie.

The Shadow Moses Incident
Pretty much everyone who has played the original PlayStation game agrees that the 1998 ...

Angel Haze And Ludacris Get Amped Up On ’22 Jump Street’ Theme Song

by 06/04/14

22 Jump Street” hits theaters on June 13, and Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum definitely need some music to soundtrack their antics in the film. Producers have tapped Detroit rapper, Angel Haze, for the movie’s title track, “22 Jump Street,” which includes a feature from Ludacris.

Angel Haze has been earning a name for herself in the rap underground, but this new release takes her well outside of her normal output. Her vocals are almost unrecognizable on the frenetic dance-track. Either way, this is a big look for the 22-year-old, and she was proud to share it with fans. Listen to the track above.

In December Haze leaked her album Dirty Gold four months early, after she got sick of waiting on a label release date.
