For The Love Of Money: Kidd Cole Wasn’t The Only Cash-Hungry ‘Catfish’

by 06/03/14

Nev Schulman and Max Joseph untangled their first non-romantic web of deceit on last week’s episode of “Catfish.” The dynamic duo helped Philly resident Lucille come face-to-face with Kidd Cole, who claimed to be a music producer working for Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. label. Turned out, Kidd was a con artist who duped Lucille for her money.

But Lucille isn’t the only person a catfish has used for their hard-earned cash. Remember these two scam-tastic episodes?

Ramon and Loyda: On Season 2, Arizona casino worker Ramon shocked the Internet detectives when he revealed that he had given his cyber girlfriend Paola access to his bank account…even though he had never met her in person. Ramon let Paola spend thousands of dollars (!) because he claimed he loved her. Of course, Nev and Max uncovered a surprise: Paola was actually a woman named Loyda. An even bigger surprise? When the Florida resident was tracked down, she said that Ramon had seen her multiple times on webcam and knew she wasn’t his dreamgirl. Eventually, Ramon fessed up that he kinda-sorta knew the score all along but kinda-sorta couldn’t accept the truth. The cherry on top: At the end of the episode, Loyda announced that she’d used Ramon’s money to purchase a ring and had been pretending she was engaged to her Internet boyfriend.

Since the show, Loyda has found true love — she tied the knot last July.

Aaliyah and Alicia: When Aaliyah enlisted the “Catfish” guys on Season 2, ...

‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’ Recap: Momma Dee Holds Court In The Streets

by 06/03/14

By Maurice Bobb

Lil Scrappy was nowhere to be found in the latest episode of “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta,” but Momma Dee kept his presence alive while holding court in the streets, refereeing between his girlfriend Bambi and “friend” Erica Pinkett. After Scrappy’s ladies’ club fight disrupted her prince’s “Dirty 30” birthday party last week, Momma was determined to get her “palace” in order.

Erica Pinkett warned Momma Dee that “a king should not be walking with a peasant” before the latter set up an ill-fated meet-and-greet between the two pugilists to resolve their issues and learn “their position.”

“An even swap won’t be a swindle,” Momma Dee said.

Wait, what?

A quick Google search revealed that the correct colloquialism, “a fair exchange ain’t no robbery and an even swap ain’t no swindle,” means that one party will do an equal action to or for the other in exchange for an equal action. No idea how that adage applies in any way shape or form here.

Momma Dee’s old-fashioned sit-down blew up in her face, though, when a seemingly calm Erica heard the bell ring and tried to bum-rush the Bambi with a flurry of fists — payback for getting sucker-punched by Bambi.

Luckily, the show’s security stepped in to diffuse the situation while somehow managing to reveal that Erica was wearing fake Christian Louboutins. Momma Dee’s meddling ways were the final straw for Bambi, who declared that she no longer cared for her son and ...

John Mayer Loves When His Exes Write Songs About Him

by 06/03/14

Remember the good old days when John Mayer swore off talking about his exes and said he was going to take the high road? Oh well.

JM was back to his old tricks on Monday when TMZ caught up with him to chat about some past loves, including Katy Perry, and, well, Mayer just couldn’t slow down the mouth train.

“I have super strength for gang-ups, I’m fine,” Mayer told the site when asked if he was bothered by the songs his former loves write about him. “That’s what you’re supposed to do, man, you’re supposed to write songs. You’re just not supposed to tell everybody you’re doing it.”

Out on a date acting as a third wheel with some friends, Mayer laughed when the paparazzo broke the news that Perry is reportedly working on a new song about John. “I actually want everybody’s song to go #1,” he said. “I purposely stopped writing hits to give other people a chance to have #1 songs.”

As for that alleged “scientific proof” that tunes with his name in them (ahem, Taylor Swift‘s not #1 hit “Dear John”) always go to #1, well, we’ll have to test that hypothesis later.

T.I. On Floyd Mayweather Incident: ‘I Don’t Even Know What There Is To Squash’

Tip says if he has a problem with someone, he'll approach them.

by 06/03/14

T.I. and Floyd Mayweather reportedly got into a bit of a scuffle in Las Vegas over Memorial Day Weekend, but Tip is remaining relatively hush on the situation.

“Whatever did happen — if anything did happen — he may be used to talking after his fights,” the rapper told TMZ. “Where I’m from, we don’t talk after ours. Ain’t nothin’ else to say.”

He’s likely not only referencing the fact that Mayweather, a champion boxer, does interviews after his bouts, but also that he spoke on this particular incident.

“I guess [Tiny] put a picture up on Instagram of her at the fight so I guess he was feeling some type of way,” Mayweather explained last month, suggesting that the incident stemmed from his relationship with T.I.’s wife.

You won’t hear T.I. talking about their issue, though.

“I don’t even know what there is to squash,” he said. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about. I don’t even know…I just know, if I got an issue with anybody about anything, I’ma approach them and we gon’ handle it.”

I'm serious about these snacks. Catch me @adamfleischer

Parquet Courts’ ‘Black And White’ Video Will Make Your Brain Twitch

by 06/03/14

What’s black and white and … black and white? Brooklyn band Parquet Courts‘ new city symphony of a video for “Black And White.”

For those who have not yet discovered the glory that is Parquet Courts, the band is out with their third album, Sunbathing Animal, Tuesday (June 3) on What’s Your Rupture?/Mom+Pop. The followup to 2012′s critically acclaimed LP Light Up Gold — and crasher of an EP, 2013′s Tally All the Things That You Broke — the new album has been weaving its way through the Web and TV for a while now. “Black And White,” for one, premiered on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” with the entire album streaming on NPR.

Now, that ominous, finger-snapping, jittering track has some visuals, courtesy of directors Austin Brown and Johann Rashid and inspired by the experimental films of William Burroughs and Brion Gysin.

It’s a simple video — featuring a black and white stroll through lead singer Andrew Savage’s Brooklyn neighborhood, ending with that image projected on a wall in an empty room — but it’s meant to capture all the life and living inherent in a mere walk through the city.

Think of that next time you amble to the corner store and back.

‘Jobs That Don’t Suck’ Sneak Peek: This Man’s Invention Makes Wedding Hookups A Cinch

by 06/03/14

The guys from “Wedding Crashers” proved that nuptials are the holy grail for hooking up with single women. Blame it on the love in the air — or the open bar — but where there’s a bride, there’s usually a bridesmaid hoping to be swept off her feet.

That’s why “Guy Code” staff writer/inventor Andy Stuckey (he’s got TWO jobs that don’t suck!) has designed a tuxedo just for the male wedding guest who’s hoping to, well, benefit from the situation.

“We combine the classiness of a tuxedo with the convenience of a jumpsuit,” Stuckey tells Andrew Schulz on Wednesday night’s “Jobs That Don’t Suck.” In the sneak peek below, Stuckey demonstrates why the extraordinary ensemble gives a whole new meaning to the term “easy access.” He’s even given it a clever name to go with its promiscuous premise: the “Fuxedo.”

Check out the clip to see how the Fuxedo can take you from James Bond to birthday suit in three steps flat, and watch “Jobs That Don’t Suck” Wednesday night at 11/10c on MTV2!

Exclusive: Listen To Joss Whedon’s New Song From ‘In Your Eyes’

by 06/03/14

Joss Whedon isn’t exactly keeping a low profile. He’s currently directing “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the sequel to one of the biggest movies of all time, producing “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” — and in his off-hours, writing the independently released “In Your Eyes,” via his own production company Bellweather Pictures.

But Whedon didn’t just write “In Your Eyes,” he also provided a song for the soundtrack. The song, “Crumblin’” is performed by Noah Maffit and Jessica Freedman, and marks the first time Whedon has penned music for the screen since “Much Ado About Nothing” in 2012.

For those who know Whedon better from his time behind the camera than his time behind the piano, the multi-talented creator has a long history with the musical arts. After (surprisingly) writing a song for the direct-to-DVD “The Lion King 2,” he composed the songs for the legendary musical episode of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” titled “Once More With Feeling.” A critical and fan-friendly hit, it has spawned multiple sing-alongs and screenings over the past decade.

He then wrote the iconic title track for his own show, “Firefly,” in 2002, followed by the highly successful web series “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” in 2008, which included more than eight new songs.

Other than the musical commentary track for “Dr. Horrible,” Whedon hasn’t had a multitudinous musical output as of late, but hopefully this “In Your Eyes” track will change his tune.

The soundtrack for the movie will hit digitally on June 10, and CD on July 8 from ...

Catelynn Lowell’s New Best Friend Is A Total Pig

by 06/03/14

If there weren’t already enough reasons to love Catelynn Lowell, she just gave us another.

The former “Teen Mom” castie just shared a new photo on Instagram, and it’s not your basic, duck-faced pout ‘n’ pucker selfie. Truth be told, we still would have been pleased if it was (<3 u selfies), but this picture is special — Catelynn has a co-star. Is it her doting boyfriend, Tyler? Nope. Not unless the dude has fallen victim to some evil witch’s spell that transformed him into a pig!*

Screen Shot 2014-06-03 at 9.57.07 AMCatelynn Lowell's Instagram
Yes, you read that right. Catelynn shared a portrait of herself getting all cuddly with a pig. An. Actual. Pig.

In Cate’s defense, it’s a fact that oinkers make excellent (if strange) pets. They’re super-clean and really intelligent! Plus, they’re where bacon comes from. (We kid, we kid.) And there’s clearly something extra unique about this particular piggy if Catelynn is so smitten. Perhaps we have a case of “Charlotte’s Web: The Sequel” on our hands! Could it be that this porcine patootie is heir apparent to Wilbur’s throne? There’s really only one way to be sure: Catelynn must now adopt a pet spider and introduce it to her swine. If the spider and the pig become besties — and webs spelling out accolades for the pig begin to appear — then we have our answer. If the pig eats the spider, well, we also have our ...
