How To Fake A Teenage Lesbian Love Affair, à La Karmy — In GIFs!

by 05/29/14

The concept was simple: Amy and Karma would pretend to be a lesbian couple, finally find some footing in Hester High School’s popular crowd and, in Karma’s case, land the hottest guy in school, Liam. And so far, so good. Though Lauren and Shane both know the girls’ secret, Karmy have still got everyone else on “Faking It” fooled, and though their friendship has hit a few small bumps along the way, everything seems to be coming up roses for the time being.

So how have a couple of BFFs who were recently obscure to the student body pulled off such a stunt? Here are five tips we’ve taken away from watching Amy and Karma seize the “class couple” title — check ‘em out, and keep watching “Faking It” Tuesday nights at 10:30/9:30c!

Go big for the reveal: If you want tremendous results, you’ve gotta come out swinging, and when Amy swallowed her fears and kissed Karma in front of a packed gym, she ensured they definitely wouldn’t be ignored. No turning back from there!

Don’t let anyone stand in your way: Amy was rightfully gutted when she realized her mother wasn’t so approving of gays and lesbians, but rather than cower and hide in self-protection, Amy put her “relationship” with Karma right out there where her mother — and anyone watching the 6 p.m. news — could see it.

Take advantage of social media: Let’s face it, selfies are ...

7 Fan-Made Costumes So Good They Deserve Their Own Movies

by 05/29/14

By Kristy Puchko

Seeking out enticing inspiration that might excite fans and launch franchises, Hollywood has turned to comic books, cartoons, and even board games. But so far they’ve totally overlooked an artistic outlet that has a fervent and widespread fanbase: cosplay.

This hobby dares fans to construct elaborate costumes, mash-up their favorite fandoms, and sometimes create all-new heroes. So why hasn’t Hollywood been scouring Comic Con for ideas for next summer’s blockbusters? Well, we have, collecting some cool cosplay pics and pairing them with promising pitches of our own.

Before she had the hairdo of a harried soccer mom in the “X-Men” movies, Ororo Munroe was a hard-edged heroine with a major Mohawk and an insatiable thirst for justice! We’d love to see Afropunk‘s badass version of Storm unleashed in a story of her own, perhaps one written by luminary comic book writer Gail Simone (We know she’s a fan). If not, could we at least loop this look into the 1980s set “X-Men: Apocalypse?”

“Ghostbusters: Back In Action”

Forget the “Ghostbusters News, we suggest a story of Mia Venkman and her half-brother Oscar Barrett-Venkman, who are both following in their father/step father’s footsteps with a cutup crew of their own.

Is All Hope Lost For The ‘Awkward.’ BFGFBFF?

by 05/29/14

If it wasn’t already clear, Tamara and Jake have gone KAPUT. After breaking up toward the beginning of this “Awkward” season, they’ve been completely at odds, and on the latest episode, their standoff climaxed when T destroyed her ex’s harmonica with a banana (the horror!). Val tried to mend their relationship by pointing to Jenna and Matty as role models for platonic former lovebirds, but truthfully, they haven’t been too keen on each other, either.

Ever since Matty found out he was adopted, J-Town’s had real trouble getting her ex to open up, and when she tried to prove she was cool with Matty dating other gals by setting him up with Eva, it blew up in her face. She told Matty he had her “blessing,” but he felt patronized in the process, and pulled away. It was only a short time ago that Jatty and Jakara had PHHS in the palms of their hands — is there any hope for these two couples to reunite? Or, of more concern, can they even be friends?

It’s been T’s high school dream to execute the perfect BFGFBFF (Boyfriend Girlfriend Best Friends Forever Double Date [DD is implied], in case you’ve forgotten). Is there still hope it could happen?

Pharrell Says He’s Not A Feminist: ‘I Don’t Think It’s Possible For Me To Be That’

by 05/29/14

Pharrell is “Happy,” but he says he’s not a feminist.

“I’ve been asked, am I a feminist?” the singer and producer said during an interview with Channel 4 News in the United Kingdom. “I don’t think it’s possible for me to be that.”

When asked why, he responded plainly. “I’m a man. It makes sense up until a certain point. But what I do is, I do support feminists. There’s injustices; there are inequalities that need to be addressed.”

Here’s the thing, P: You can be a man and a feminist. And some of your ideas make it sound like that’s exactly what you are.

Take, for example, when he spoke in support of Hillary Clinton:

“I would love to see a woman run the country,” he said. “Historically, this world has been run by man. And what would a world be like if 75 percent our world leaders, our presidents and prime ministers, were female? What would that world be like? We don’t know, because we haven’t given it a shot. We’re too busy telling them what they can and can’t do with their bodies. Or, we’re too busy, you know, not allowing them to make the same amount of money that a man makes.”

Rihanna’s Weed And Nipple Tweets Feel Kinda Weird With Maya Angelou’s Face On Them

by 05/29/14

Now that she’s off Instagram, we have to rely on Rihanna‘s tweets to keep us up-to-date on what’s on her mind. And one thing she’s been thinking about a lot over the past 24 hours is the death of poet/author Maya Angelou.

In fact, Rih Rih as so inspired by the passing of Dr. Angelou that in addition to posting three times about it on Wednesday, she also changed her Twitter icon into an image of Angelou — which is a totally cool, amazing tribute to a true American original.

…But here’s the thing. Now that every Rihanna tweet is accompanied by an image of Angelou (for now, anyway), going back into her feed some of her tweets feel a bit, well, weird when paired with the regal snap of the Presidential Medal of Freedom winner and Mother Theresa Award recipient.

Listen Rih, we’re all for fun and nipple love, kissing and Maya Angelou praise, but maybe not all of that in the same place at the same time? A few examples of this only-on-the-Internet problem:

Free The Nipple
Angelou was all about personal freedom, but Rih Rih’s embrace of Scout Willis’ topless New York romp seems like a different kind of battle.

9 Times Jennifer Lopez’s ‘First Love’ Body Is Sicker Than Ever

by 05/29/14

“I knew I had to leave the world behind me to find out who I was,” Jennifer Lopez opens her new “First Love” video. “I knew that if I went far enough and left everything behind, I would find you.”

That’s all well and good, J. Lo, but do you mind dropping us some GPS coordinates or something? Because despite the desert setting in the A.K.A. track’s clip, you’re clearly not far from the long-fabled Fountain of Flawlessness. Don’t try to thirst-shame me — just gimme a sip.

In the meantime, I’ll gladly settle for repeatedly watching the gorgeously shot, Anthony Mandler-directed video, which stars model David Gandy (responsible for some of Dolce & Gabbana’s junkier ads) and the “I Luh Ya Papi” singer — whose body has, like, actually never looked better. Don’t believe me? Here, let’s break down all the times when Ms. Lopez’s body was sicker than ever in “First Love.”

‘Avatar’ The Cirque du Soleil Show Is Actual Thing That’s Going To Happen

by 05/29/14

Did you find yourself watching James Cameron’s 2009 epic Avatar and wishing, “If only this was set to ethereal music and accompanied by brain-melting acrobatics?”

Well wish no more, friends, because the Cirque du Soleil show you never knew you needed in your life is about to become a reality, according to Variety. Cameron is working with the circus artists to bring a live iteration of his big, blue world to the stage.

The news was announced by Daniel Lamarre, president and CEO of Cirque du Soleil on Thursday in Montreal during the international business C2MTL– Commerce + Creativity Conference. (Say that five times fast.) The show is set to debut in late 2015. No longer will Na’vi ways be sequestered to its many planned big screen sequels — in fact with a debut date of 2015, the live iteration will arrive before the three remaining Avatar sequels.

“Over the years, I have discovered the extraordinary talents and imaginations of both the artists and the creative forces behind Cirque du Soleil,” said James Cameron in a statement. “I know we share the common goal of bringing audiences to another level of entertainment experiences. I look forward to doing just that on this project.”

According to Lamarre, this is not some willynilly idea, but rather something that’s been in the works since the first movie debuted. “Our relationship with Jim Cameron began with my visit at his Avatar cutting room. I am thrilled that almost 5 ...

Mindy Kaling Imparts Life Advice, Pick-Up Lines In Harvard Law Graduation Speech

by 05/29/14

In the mood for some “Legally Blonde” references with a side of birther jokes? We’ve got just the thing for you! Actress Mindy Kaling delivered a speech at Harvard Law School’s class day ceremony (just graduation, but the Ivy League is too cool to not have their own name for it) yesterday (May 28), and, guys, we think you’re gonna like it.

Kaling seamlessly integrated humor, subtle pick-up lines and, of course, that old graduation speech standby, Life Advice.

“You are the nerds who are going to make serious bank,” she said. “Which is why I’m here today: To marry the best-looking amongst you.”

(Hot tip: Marrying Kaling is probably a great idea.)

She also informed graduates that “People are going to listen to what you say, whether you’re good or evil,” and warned them that Harvard would follow them through their lives, like if they committed a very public crime, they would be the “Harvard murderer.”

Choice words, folks.

On top of that, she of course did some adorable stuff on Instagram and Twitter related to the speech.

Here’s Mindy with Preet Bharara! She may play a gynecologist on TV, but he really is a lawyer.

And here she is with a Tiffany cup, a gift for participating in commencement exercises, on her head. Like a lady.

Thanks Harvard Law for my gorgeous engraved Tiffany cup which also makes a great hat

Aaaaaand instagrammed the exact moment that she realized she probably couldn’t run away from hundreds of ambitious newly minted law graduates.
