A GIF Treasury Of Less Offensive Ways To Show Your Support For Seth Rogen

by 05/28/14

We’re big Seth Rogen fans ’round these parts, being appreciative of a dude who makes movies that make us laugh. In fact, we’re a big fan of a lot of people. So are you! We bet a few of you like Seth Rogen too.

So, as a fan of Seth Rogen, it’s only natural to feel a bit defensive about some less than positive associations that have been made the last few days. That’s cool, everyone’s entitled to their opinions.

Here’s what’s not cool: When supporting a person you like means tearing another person down. A glance at Rogen’s Twitter replies, where he publicly responded to a column written by Washington Post film critic Ann Hornaday in which she drew a connection between “Neighbors” and the shooting at UCSB, leads to some disturbing responses. There’s anti-woman rhetoric, outdated and sexist slang and straight-up nasty, crude comments, all purportedly in support of Rogen and his innocence.

Here’s the thing: To support someone, that doesn’t mean that another person must be torn down. To be more direct, this is not a girls-versus-boys issue. It’s totally uncalled for to be slinging anti-woman language as if it supports your cause or helps the celebrity that you like.

Even more direct: Are we really dropping the c-word in here? Really?

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, a GIF must be worth at least four thousand. (Logic.) Since this is a story that won’t go away, we need to find a new way to talk about it without tearing ...

Snooki’s And JWOWW’s Baby Bumps Take Sonogram Selfies In ‘Wombmates’

by 05/28/14

While most pregnant women are over the moon to soon be welcoming a mini-me into the world, any one of them will tell you that constantly getting kicked in the ribs or peeing every time they sneeze is the pits. Jenni Farley has been pretty vocal about feeling crummy during her daughter-to-be’s incubation period, and her BFF, Nicole Polizzi, definitely didn’t enjoy waddling around Seaside Heights — in 90-degree weather, no less — during her third trimester with son Lorenzo. But both guidettes are incredibly excited to give birth (JWOWW’s due with her first in July, Snooki’s set to pop out her second — a girl — in the fall), and to celebrate, we created an animated web series of their baby bumps gossiping like old friends while waiting (impatiently) to be delivered. It was a labor of love (heh), we must say, and we hope you dig it as much as we do.

In our first episode, SNOOKBaby and JWOWWBaby accompany their moms to an ultrasound appointment, where they promptly snap a few selfies to be posted on social media. You’ve never seen such precious duck lips!

Check out the video, and stay tuned for the next episode, in which the bumps are involuntarily taken on a shaky elliptical ride at the gym.

Cherub’s Bouncy Summer Jam ‘Doses & Mimosas’ Is Actually About ‘Self-Loathing’

by 05/28/14

I don’t know if you’ve seen Cherub’s video for their hit single “Doses & Mimosas” yet, but it’s way, way ballsy. Like, literally, you guys.

From golden underwear to ass-less chaps, electro-pop duo Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber show fans a whole new side of themselves in this video — if by “side” you mean basically every inch of flesh and every tongue-in-cheek tattoo (see if you can spot the mer-kitten lactating into a dog dish!).

Yup, they play strippers — and, yup, they take their roles very seriously. If you define “seriously” as romping around with alligators and donning pants-less chef uniforms while staring at boobs.

The guys told us more about their inspiration for the video — spoiler: they watched “Mike Magic” on loop for two days — as well as the dark side of the bouncy summer anthem.

Check it out below:

Dame Dash Blasts Steve Stoute, Calls Him A ‘Culture Robber’

by 05/28/14

Dame Dash and Jay Z recently patched up their relationship, but there seems to be no hope for the Roc-A-Fella co-founder and Hov’s longtime business partner, Steve Stoute. After siding with 50 Cent and sharing his less-than-flattering thoughts about Stoute on Instagram in April, Dame took it even further in a recent interview where he called him a “culture robber.”

In an interview with Hip Hop Motivation, a video production company, Dame spoke on what he feels are the dysfunctions of black-owned companies.

Part of his reasoning was that “black people never help each other” and eventually he went on to point a finger directly at Steve Stoute.

“You know how many black people I tried to put together to make movies? There always be that one group – or because of Steve Stoute, or somebody that’s a “culture robber,” or doesn’t care about his culture – [that] would break that up,” Dame said.

“A guy like Steve Stoute would always take the people that are protecting the creative [and] eliminate them, so he could rob the creative,” he continued. “Just so he could get his money. Even if he kills that black man or that person’s brand.”

Stoute is the founder and CEO of the marketing firm Translation and the author of the “The Tanning of America: How Hip-Hop Created a Culture That Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy.” He’s managed several a-list artists and help build brands around stars like Nas, Jay Z ...

Despite ‘Ant-Man,’ Marvel Studios’ Glory Days Aren’t Over

by 05/28/14

Despite every less than savory piece of news we’ve heard about Marvel Studios, the end is not here.

Actually, it isn’t even nigh.

It’s been easy over the course of the last week to worry about the state of affairs at the Disney-owned superhero house, what with Edgar Wright reportedly walking away from “Ant-Man” over an unapproved rewrite and Drew Goddard leaving the Netflix “Daredevil” series behind for Sony’s “Sinister Six.” But what might seem like omens of a downturn in luck are actually just par for the course.

For better or worse, Marvel Studios is good at what it does. While that doesn’t include making films with particularly distinctive cinematic voices shining through — as we’ve seen with the Wright situation — they have managed to create a complex network of interconnected and consistently entertaining superhero movies.

And that doesn’t happen by accident. Marvel Studios is a successful-superhero-movie-making machine that works in a very particular way. When a gear isn’t working with the rest of the mechanism, it’s replaced in a strictly-business manner.

Though Wright’s departure sounds like it was a particularly nasty side effect of how Marvel Studios runs its Cinematic Universe, it doesn’t signal the end of that universe. It’s just a symptom of its uncompromising shrewdness. As “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn put it in his Facebook post addressing the breakup, “Not everyone belongs in a relationship together.”

Marvel Studios films have never been known for their thrilling variety. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” ...

This Little Skater Girl Has More Willpower Than You

by 05/28/14

What have you done today? Probably nothing. Our lives are mostly replete with aimless meandering, all culminating in the Big Sleep.

Well, here’s one little girl who will not go gently: 9-year-old skater Sabre Norris, who does not know the meaning of the word “quit.”

Check out her skate story below, as well as a video of her mastering her favorite trick.

“My skating all started because I wasn’t allowed to get a bike because we don’t have a garage. So my mum bought us skateboards instead. I started from rolling down my dad’s business car park. I’ve been skating for about 3 years.

“My favorite trick is a 540. I watched Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins do it on the internet, and I just had to do it. That was my 75th attempt of the day. Every time I tried one and didn’t land it, I put a rock on the table. It ended up being my 75th rock. I was frothing. I did some 720s, too. Not proper. I called it 540 to revert to splat. I didn’t cry though.

“My goal is to do 100 of them before this Saturday. I’m up to 75. I still can’t ride a bike, but I can do a 540.”

Remembering The ‘Catfish’ Who Were (Pretty Much) Honest About Their Identities

by 05/28/14

It’s rare in the world of “Catfish,” but once in a blue moon, Internet gurus Nev Schulman and Max Joseph help to uncover a very uncommon breed of people who are (for the most part) telling the truth about their identities. On last week’s episode, we got our first taste of honesty during Season 3, when Antoinette discovered that Albert (a.k.a. Florida-based rapper T-Lights) wasn’t actually posing as someone else on Instagram. This got us thinking back to the (few) times that folks played it straight on the MTV series, and ultimately just needed a push in the right direction from our super sleuths in order to help them overcome a personal obstacle and come face-to-face with their online crushes. Let’s take a look back at some of these memorable scenarios.

Lauren and Derek: The couple communicated for eight years before Nev and Max orchestrated Lauren’s first magical meeting with Derek during Season 2. Fans were rooting for the longtime lovebirds to be the series’ first successful match, especially after Derek proposed on the mid-season reunion. All signs pointed to a picture-perfect ending, but unfortunately, the duo won’t be living happily ever after: They recently decided to split.
Melissa and Nick: On Season 2, Nick felt he couldn’t go off to college without coming face-to-face with Melissa, who he met on a Tila Tequila fan site six years prior. Melissa turned out to be the young lady in her photographs, but there was a bigger ...

Lupe Fiasco Wrote Anti-Cancer Anthem ‘Mission’ For His Grandmother

by 05/28/14

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. Hundreds of thousands of new cases are reported every year. Count Lupe Fiasco among the many people whose lives have been directly affected by the disease.

“My grandmother passed away from cancer,” Lupe explained on “NewsNation With Tamron Hall,” while discussing his new single, “Mission,” which is meant to uplift those affected by the disease and was released in collaboration with Stand Up To Cancer. “It was very sudden; it wasn’t a drawn-out battle or fight.”

The Chicago native added that in recent years, he’s had a number of friends diagnosed, including a professor from Chicago State University, who particularly inspired the song.

“His reaction to it was he was gonna fight it, and fight it in a very bold, aggressive, vigorous kind of manner,” he explained. “And it was the first time I had ever seen a close friend of mine battling with cancer.”

Lu decided to write the song in his friend’s honor, as well as for his grandmother and everyone else who has battled cancer. The track, which also serves as a single for upcoming album Tetsuo & Youth, includes both vocals from cancer survivors giving personal accounts and finds the rapper telling stories from their perspectives in his verses.

Once it was finished, but before it was released, Lupe went around and played it for patients at the Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chicago. With their approval, he ...

Dancing Michael Jackson Kid Brought Peace To His School

by 05/28/14

So not only did 17-year-old Brett Nichols win his high school talent contest for his spot-on Michael Jackson dance moves, become a viral sensation and get an official nod from MJ’s estate — he also, apparently, brought peace to his school.

When MTV News asked Nichols — before school — if the viral video has made a difference when it comes to his high school career, he said: “Oh, totally. There are guys who maybe a week ago would never even talk to me [talking to me now]. There’s generally a lot of positivity.”

“The whole school doesn’t seem to be in as much small chaos as it used to be,” he added. “It’s not a crazy school, but every school has its rough moments and there haven’t been those lately.”

Take that, Dalai Lama.

Sure, this newfound peace might have something to do with the fact that the school year ends come Friday, but I’m guessing Nichols’ fancy moves and the fame they have brought to California’s Pitman High have made a major impact on the school’s denizens.

The video, which hit the Web last week and has since racked up more than 14-million views, is about 13 years in the making.

Nichols was first introduced to Michael Jackson’s moves in 2001 after seeing the “Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Special” at age five. A few years later, he started practicing Jackson’s dance steps — sometimes for three hours at a time. He’s entirely self-taught.

“I thought it was the coolest thing I had ...
