by 05/28/14

#sadgaga.

Lady Gaga has been forced to postpone two stops on her artRave: The ARTPOP Ball Tour — one in Seattle and another in Vancouver, British Columbia — after falling ill.

“I’m devastated I’m unable to perform this week. Ursula took my mermaid voice I’ve come down with horrible Bronchitis.” Gaga tweeted on Wednesday (May 28), just before she was scheduled to take the stage at Seattle’s Key Arena. “My deepest apologies to Seattle and Vancouver, we’ll reschedule those shows & be back to make it up to you. I <3 monsters. #sadgaga"

A statement on Gaga’s website cited “severe bronchitis” as the reason for postponing the Seattle and Vancouver stops. She’s still scheduled to take the stage on June 2 in San Diego, California. After wrapping up her Stateside stops with a show in Denver, Colorado, on August 6, she’ll take the trek overseas with performances in Prague, London, Tokyo, Amsterdam and more.

Sam Smith Talks Sexuality, And The Man Who Doesn’t Love Him Back

by 05/28/14

The pain writhing through Sam Smith’s “Leave Your Lover” just got even more piercing, because the whole thing is true.

Smith all but confirmed his sexuality earlier this week when he released the equally crestfallen video for “Leave Your Lover,” and in a new interview with The FADER, he finally comes out an says it: For some time now, he’s been deeply in love with a man who never loved him back.

“I’ve never been in a relationship before. I’ve only been in unrequited relationships where people haven’t loved me back. I guess I’m a little bit attracted to that in a bad way,” he told the magazine in the June/July issue. “In the Lonely Hour is about a guy that I fell in love with last year, and he didn’t love me back. I think I’m over it now, but I was in a very dark place.”

The video captures that dark place quite beautifully. Smith is caught in a gut-wrenching love triangle with close friends — one man, one woman — and by the end of the clip, it becomes clear that it’s “him” who he’s been pining for all along. But despite all that heartache, Smith has been open with him, even admitting that the track is about him.

“I told him about it recently, and obviously it was never going to go the way I wanted it to go, because he doesn’t love me,” he said. “But it was good as a form of closure, to get it ...

Jay Z Put In A Call To Sean Penn For ‘Run’ Video

by 05/28/14

When the “Run” video was released earlier this month, it caused quite a stir online. Could this possibly be a trailer for something bigger? (The answer — “Coming never” — was revealed at the end). And what about the idea behind the wild video? And all the cameos? Melina Matsoukas, the video’s director, gave Elle the stories behind the visual.

“Beyoncé was definitely really excited; Jay was a bit skeptical, but we were able to kind of force him into it,” she said. “He’s always interested in doing something different so I think that part was exciting to him. I think he was hesitant about ‘Oh, now I have to be an actor.’ I was like, ‘If it works, great. If not, then we’ll cut around it and make it a more typical video.’”

Once he was in, though, Hov was ready to play ball.

“Jay put in a call for Sean Penn,” explained Matsoukas, who has directed dozens of videos. “It was the end of us shooting the first day. One of Jay’s creatives came up to me and she’s like, ‘OK, we need to call Sean Penn now. He’s coming tomorrow.’ And I’m like, ‘What? OK.’ So I’m driving back through the desert, and my phone’s not working, and it didn’t work that night, and I wake up the next morning to a text from Sean Penn.”

Penn, who was just one of a star-studded cast that also included Don Cheadle, Blake Lively, Rashida Jones and Jake Gyllenhaal, improvised all of ...

Justin Bieber Still Won’t Take Sides In Lil Wayne/Scooter Braun Drama

by 05/28/14

By Maurice Bobb

Spread love, it’s the Justin Bieber way.

In the wake of the scathing comments Lil Wayne directed toward Bieber’s longtime manager, Scooter Braun, the “Boyfriend” singer chose to remain neutral, shouting out both men after leaving the Rainbow Bar and Grill on the Sunset Strip Tuesday night.

In the TMZ video, the singer can be seen taking pictures with a throng of female fans through the rear window of a black SUV. When security puts an end to the impromptu selfie session, the gossip site’s photographer asks Bieber about Tunechi’s vitriolic comments.

Bieber rolled up his window, but quickly rolled it back down to reply.

“Love you, Scooter. Love you, Wayne,” he said.

Earlier this week, Weezy released an expletive-filled video admonishing Braun in favor of his artist, Lil’ Twist, who was reportedly kicked out of his pal Bieber’s Calabasas, California, home last year amid a flurry of run-ins with the law.

“I heard this bitchass n—a Scooter talkin’ sh– about my little brother,” Wayne said, referring to Twist. “N—a this my motherf–kin’ brother, anything you got to say, when you see me say it to my motherf–kin’ face. And if you do happen to say it to my motherf—in’ face, I ain’t gonna make you eat them words n—a, I’ma put them bitches on your tombstone.”

Then, for added effect, he added, “F–k you Scooter!”

No further comment has been made by Wayne, but Bieber did post a stitched picture on Instagram of he and Scooter hugging side-by-side with the ...

Have Jay Z And Manager John Meneilly Called It Quits?

by 05/28/14

Jay Z has parted ways with his longtime manager John Meneilly, according to The New York Daily News.

It’s unclear why the alleged split occurred. One source said the decision was made a couple months ago and that it was “amicable and mutual,” while another claimed “it wasn’t [Meneilly's] choice.”

Meneilly has worked with Hov for years, primarily in a business capacity — he was a part of the launch of Roc Nation and reportedly helped facilitate the deal with Samsung for Hov’s Magna Carta Holy Grail — though he was credited as his manager in the liner notes for MCHG, according to HipHopDX.

Meneilly has been down with Hov since the Roc-a-Fella days, and though he was almost never in the spotlight, he did get shoutouts on wax from time-to-time, including on Jay’s “My 1st Song” and Kanye West’s “Last Call.”

Charles Hamilton Has A Theory: ‘I Believe Drake Is An Alien’

by 05/28/14

Sure, Drake has had some out of this world success in music, but he’s not actually from out of this world, is he? Charles Hamilton certainly think so.

“I believe Drake is an alien,” the rapper said during an interview with Sa Neter Tv7 in his native Harlem. “Let’s not go too far into the song ‘Started from the Bottom,’ [but] there’s a melody in that song, and that melody is, like, the mental ringtone of the aliens.”

Then, he got to the heart of what most people have been wondering about the Drizzy hit.

“But, the reason why there is a debate, is because 808s are used in that song; so, if that song was truly an alien song, why would it have 808s?” he asked. How, indeed? “808s are frequency-based, not drum-based. So if you’re dealing with frequencies and sh–, a pissed off alien can go, Wooo, wooo, wooo, wooo, and make the song.”

That’s just one of the many seemingly strange, memorable moments from the nearly 30-minute interview.

Others include, but are not limited to: his belief that Jimmy Iovine being “the closet thing we got to God”; his worship of Sonic the Hedgehog and J Dilla; his claims that he still has a record deal; his theory on what happened between Jay Z and Solange; his beliefs in mysticism and alchemy; his thoughts on Yeezus; and why he never sold out.

Just watch the whole thing. And then take it back to when MTV News spoke with Charles back in ...

EDC’s Pasquale Rotella Determined To See Festival Back In L.A.

by 05/28/14

This past weekend, EDC had another successful run in New York with headliners like Tiesto and Calvin Harris. And on Wednesday (May 28), the lineup for EDC Las Vegas was announced, with no shortage of household names on the roster.

But according to Insonmiac Events head Pasquale Rotella, the real headliners are the fans.

That’s the premise behind the Discovery Project, which hopes to bring aspiring electronic music producers from their bedrooms to the stage. Starting out playing what is known as the Discovery Stage, they will eventually graduate to performing on the main-stage of EDC for thousands of fans.

After EDC returns to Vegas, Rotella is looking to move EDC back west, to his home state of California.

The LA Memorial Coliseum hosted EDC in 2010, but shortly after Rotella was sued by the City of Los Angeles on multiple counts including civil fraud and unfair business practices. So while bring bringing EDC, or any of Insomniac’s existing events, back to California will be very difficult, Rotella says it’s just a matter of finding the right venue.

“I’m looking forward to bringing some of our known festivals back to California,” Rotella told us.”That’s where I come from, so it’s super exciting to me. There is a huge demand and there is a huge fanbase there– we are in the middle of working that out.”

Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N.: Our Backstage Tour Of The New Marvel Exhibit

by 05/28/14

Want to become an official S.H.I.E.L.D. agent? Then you’re going to want to head to New York City starting May 30 to visit Discovery Times Square, where a new interactive exhibit allows visitors to not only join the elite organization, but to explore mind-blowing props from the Marvel movies, and the science behind them.

In advance of the opening, I had a chance to sneak a peek behind the scenes of the exhibit while it was still being built for a private tour. And what I saw was, for any fan of Marvel Studios, pretty stupendous.

The first thing you should know is that with only a few short days left until the official opening (and about 37 hours until the opening night party), crews were still working around the clock 24-hour long shifts to finish the one-of-a-kind exhibit. That meant I wasn’t able to experience the full power of the exhibit – most of the electronics in particular still needed to be hooked up – but it was still plenty cool.

Once everything is up and running, the tour starts off by getting your own personalized S.H.I.E.L.D. identification badge. You can scan your picture, enter some basic info, and you’re able to access both the exhibits at Discovery, and a webpage with more info and surprises at home.

From there, the exhibit allows 30 guests to enter at a time, every five or six minutes. My tour guide confided that beyond making an incredible exhibit, one of the large concerns ...
