Unmaking The Band: Diddy’s Not Impressed With Aundrea Fimbres’ DK Departure [GIFs]

by 05/20/14

When four of Danity Kane‘s original five members announced during last year’s MTV Video Music Awards that they were reuniting after four years apart, it was as if no time had passed, and fans far and wide screamed their way through the girls’ comeback concert. Since then, the foursome has promoted a slew of summer shows, released a new single and begun to prepare for a third album, but at the #DKNoFilter tour‘s first stop on Friday night, Aundrea Fimbres unexpectedly revealed that she was leaving the group to start a family. And suddenly, there were three.

Fans at San Francisco’s Fillmore Auditorium cried out in support as Aundrea shared the news (see the video below), but if there’s one person we’re sure would have never taken Drea’s choice in stride, it’s her ol’ boss, Diddy. During DK’s “Making the Band” days, any bum note, flubbed choreography or questionable outfit earned Drea and her bandmates cold side-eyes from the man formally known as Sean Combs. Undoubtedly, Drea’s first steps toward motherhood would have earned the criticism she’d come to know and…know.

To celebrate Puffy’s penchant for remaining unimpressed, we’ve collected some of his finest unmoved moments (the man could out-stare a stone!). Sort through the GIFs, and share your thoughts on Drea’s departure!

‘Girl Meets World’ Theme Song: Listen Now

by 05/20/14

The day we’ve all been waiting for is here: It’s “Girl Meets World” theme song day.

The new sitcom, a spin-off from the classic ’90s Disney series “Boy Meets World,” which aired from 1993 to 2000, follows the life of Cory and Topanga’s daughter, played by Rowan Blanchard. And now that we have a theme song, “Take On the World,” performed by Sabrina Carpenter and Blanchard, we know exactly what it sounds like when that girl meets aforementioned world.

For the purpose of comparison, here’s a compilation of “Boy Meets World” theme songs, which were mostly instrumental, upbeat jams, save for a later iteration that mostly consisted of the lyrics “when this boy meets world,” repeated, lest we forget which show we were watching. Oh, Cory! The shenanigans you got up to.

Entertainment Weekly also debuted the credits for “Girl Meets World,” which you can watch on your very own television set when the show premieres on June 27.

Snooki’s Future Daughter Is ‘Already Applying Lipstick’ In Utero — See The Sonogram!

by 05/20/14

Even in the womb, Nicole Polizzi’s daughter is following in her mama’s footsteps. Snooki, who will give birth this fall, shared the first sonogram on her Instagram account, and we have to give serious props to the ultrasound technician for capturing this picture-perfect moment! The little lady certainly isn’t dodging the camera like Jenni Farley’s mini-me…

snooki sonogram

“My baby girl! She’s healthy and look, she’s already applying lipstick! #mygirl,” Snooki wrote along with the image. The photo features her alert peanut holding one of her hands close to her petite pout — it’s almost as if she invaded her mama’s makeup bag for her world debut.

Kids start so young these days when it comes to using cosmetics…even before they’re born. Wonder if this beauty prefers a bold red, or if she’s into subtle pink — time will certainly tell!

Make BANKS’ ‘Drowning’ The Soundtrack To Your Next Breakup

by 05/20/14

BANKS knows what’s up. Her new single, “Drowning,” darkly captures what a toxic relationship can do to a person — read: leave your heart cold and gasping for air.

“Take it from the girl you claim to love/ You’re gonna get some bad karma,” BANKS croons over a shuttering, dramatic beat, opining,
“From the girl who made you soup and tied your shoes when you were hurting/ You were not deserving, you were not deserving.”

Make this the anthem for the impending anti-cuffing season.

BANKS’ debut album GODDESS is September 9.

Twitter Could Be Shelling Out The Big Bucks For SoundCloud

by 05/20/14

It looks like Twitter could be taking another crack at breaking into the music world, if reports that the micro-blogging service is in talks to acquire SoundCloud are to be believed.

Music tech journalist Peter Kafka reports that Twitter is currently in talks to purchase the music-sharing service, which has become the de facto place for musicians to post new tunes and remixes since its 2007 inception.

Soundcloud has a reported 250 million listeners, while Twitter has 255 million monthly active users.

This isn’t Twitter’s first foray into music. The social media service launched Twitter Music — which was shuttered in March 2014 — last year. That service allowed users to see what tunes were trending on Twitter, as well as get musical suggestions based on their tastes.

If this deal were to go through, it would be a big buy for Twitter, as SoundCloud is currently valued at $700 million.

The sale wouldn’t be as pricey a deal as Apple’s alleged $3.2 billion plan to buy Beats Electronics, but it could be relatively impactful, adding a deeper social layer to SoundCloud and making Twitter more dynamic.

SoundCloud has made efforts to make its homepage more social in the past, with its “The Next Soundcloud” redesign (complete with profile pages), but the site never really seemed to become a destination for casual music fans; the name of the game has always been sharing.

Twitter users share more SoundCloud links than any other ...

5SOS Are Literally Going Bananas For Pete Wentz in This Pic

by 05/20/14

5 Seconds of Summer did way more than make their major network debut on Sunday night at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards.

Watch 5SOS’s Kick Some Ass In The Video For “Don’t Stop.”

Sure, that was epic, but what really blew their minds was meeting one of their all-time musical heroes after the gig: Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz.

But, seriously, what’s up with the bananas, Calum?

This ‘Frozen’-Hating Baby Does Not Want To Build A Snowman, EVER

by 05/20/14

Are you so overloaded on the “Frozen” soundtrack that the mere suggestion of letting it go or concealing, not feeling, makes you want to weep? This tiny baby knows that feel, bro.

A few notes of “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman” is all it takes to make poor little Claire start sobbing, the weight of “Frozen’s” cultural saturation having become too much for her to bear. Clearly, it’s time for the world to move on to some new music, already. Please! For the children! Or at least for this child, specifically, because the way her face crumples when the singing starts is making us want to cry.

11 Celebrities Who Would Make Awesome Commencement Speakers

by 05/20/14

By Rachel Paoletta

Four years, hundreds of cups of coffee, a history major (don’t hate) and producing minor have brought me to this point: Graduation. On Wednesday, I’ll graduate from New York University with thousands of other students at Yankee Stadium. What I’m feeling can only be described as a cocktail of emotions: excited, terrified, eager, anxious — I am actually beginning to drive myself insane. (Is it weird that I’m 1 percent excited and 99 percent horrified I’m going to pull a J-Law and fall onstage at Radio City when our smaller ceremony goes down today?)

Watch: Sandra Bullock Blind Sides A High School Commencement With A Surprise Speech

While I’m extremely excited for graduation, let’s be real: Commencement speeches get a bad rap. They’re long, often tedious and a general *groan* moment. But there’s hope! MTV News takes pride in educated young people and knows they deserve exciting speakers for an exciting time. I humbly suggest the following celebs be considered by universities throughout the country. JUST HEAR ME OUT, HOLIER-THAN-THOU MEMBERS OF ACADEMIA:

1. Beyoncé

Let’s BEYON-est — there simply is no title or position to aspire to higher than Queen Bey.

^ all the proof you need.

2. Jennifer Lawrence
Because obviously. Her mere presence is a testimony you can be successful, adored by millions and still true to yourself. Her wisdom is inspiring and infinite:

Sorry J-Law. I know you don’t want to be a GIF. Love you, mean it. Xoxo

3. Diddy
While it’s true he was recently the ...

Catfish, Dubstep And Selfie Are Now In The Dictionary, So Tell Your Mom To Look It Up

by 05/20/14

“Turducken” is in the Merriam-Webster dictionary now. Turducken.

Don’t know what that is? Look it up, and while you’re at it, instead of trying to explain to your mom what a selfie, hashtag, paywall or freegan is, tell her to check out the 2014 edition of the collegiate dictionary.

Among the 150 other new words that made it into the MW this year: steampunk, Auto-Tune, catfish, crowdfunding, dubstep, baby bump, big data, e-waste, fracking, hot spot, motion capture, paywall, social networking, spoiler alert and unfriend.

The men of MTV’s “Catfish” were very appreciative of the honor, with Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost posting a pic on the Merriam website with their thanks for the recognition — and host Nev Schulman proudly holding up a copy of the new dictionary.

There was even one in the mix that we didn’t know, “Tweep,” a noun that is defined as “a person who uses the Twitter online message service to send and receive tweets.”

Let’s use some of the other new word in a sentence, shall we?

“I’m thinking of grabbing some pho (noun: a soup made of beef or chicken broth and rice noodles) and poutine (noun: a dish of French fries covered with brown gravy and cheese curds) on Sunday when I watch the game with my Yooper (noun: a native or resident of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan — used as a nickname) pals.”

Sandra Bullock Blind Sides High School Graduation With Surprise Speech

by 05/20/14

The Class of 2014 at Warren Easton High School in New Orleans will never forget their commencement speaker.

That’s because Sandra Bullock made a surprise appearance at the group’s graduation, delivering an inspiring speech to the college-bound group.

“Stop worrying so much,” Bullock said. “I don’t remember any of the moments in my life where I worried. Go find your joy. It’s not the worry, it’s not the what-ifs. It’s the joy that stays with you.”

Bullock, who adopted the Louisiana charter school after Hurricane Katrina, actually snuck her way on stage — making sure her appearance came as a big, wonderful shock to the graduates. Her words were based on things she wished people had told her when she was younger, advice she now gives her 4-year-old son.

“Raise the bar higher,” Bullock said. “I only remember the moments where I tried beyond what I thought I could do, and I do not remember the failures because I didn’t. Nothing is a failure, it’s just not supposed to work out that way, because something better is supposed to come along.”

Bullock also said that you have to dance every day, eat something green every day, and of course, that you can’t pick your nose in public.

With her funny and inspiring speech, the Oscar winner not only made every graduate at every other high school incredibly jealous, but also ensured that the kids at Warren Easton would have even more special memories from their big day.
