Chris Pratt Literally Used To Live In A Van Down By The River

Apparently, between being his high school class clown and morphing into the kind of dude you should definitely date, Chris Pratt‘s life wasn’t all chuckles and chiseled abs.

In an interview with The Independent last month, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Parks and Recreation” actor discussed his financial struggles after dropping out of college and earning a one-way ticket to Hawaii.

“It’s a pretty awesome place to be homeless,” he says, remembering his days sleeping in a van or in a tent on the beach. “It would be different if I lived on the streets of Chicago and ate garbage from a dumpster. …You know, it was charming time.”

And now, Pratt has enlightened us as to just what specific brand of “charm” he was referring to – and let’s just say, it wasn’t only his unkempt hair that was shaggy at the time. Posting a photo to his Facebook page on Friday, he wrote, “Can’t believe I found this picture!!! That is the van I lived in!!! In my hand is the script for the movie that got me out of Maui. Crazy.” We hope it came with a plentiful supply of Scooby snacks.

The script for Pratt’s first movie role was given to him by actor-director Rae Dawn Chong, who was lucky enough to be one of Pratt’s customers when he was a waiter at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in Maui. Rae, on behalf of humans everywhere, we’d like to extend our deepest gratitude for plucking Pratt from obscurity.

That short film may’ve been called “Cursed Part 3,” but Pratt’s rags-to-riches story proves anything but.
