Are Hilary Duff And Mike Comrie Back Together? Sure Looks Like It In This Halloween Party Pic

by 8 mins ago

Is Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie’s friendly post-separation relationship a hint that the couple is trying to make amends? Or perhaps they’re just keeping things super-civil for the good of son Luca?

Talk of the former heated up when Duff and Comrie were spotted holding hands and smiling at the Casamigos Halloween Party Friday night in Los Angeles. They were also seen shopping for Halloween costumes and pumpkins with Luca on Saturday.

Since their split in January, Duff and Comrie have been seen together regularly, both with and without their son. Duff told E! News back in May that they still have no idea what the future will hold.

“We love each other so much and we love spending time together…so when you see us out it’s not just for Luca, it’s because we make plans and we hang out and we don’t know what our future looks like right now but we’re both doing really good and just figuring out what makes us happy.”

We totally understand that grey area in a relationship where you need to work through issues separately while also re-evaluating your coupledom, and we applaud Duff and Comrie for maintaining a united front – and a healthy, ever-evolving love for one another – for the good of themselves and their child.

There’s obviously a reason why they haven’t filed divorce papers yet, and – whatever the end result – we applaud their thoughtful approach to ...

Kate Hudson’s Matthew McConaughey Impression Is Literally Perfect

by 7 mins ago

She’s played opposite him in two romantic comedies, which more than qualifies her for some serious immersion research, but even so: we’re a little shocked by Kate Hudson‘s spot-on impression of Matthew McConaughey.

McConaughey was the honoree at this year’s 28th American Cinematheque Award Gala Tribute, and his “Fool’s Gold” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” co-star ascended the stage to tell a story from the “Fools Gold” set, letting loose one seriously uncanny impersonation in the process.

Hudson set the scene, saying, “There was also a time when we were shooting ‘Fools Gold’ and we had to get certified…for scuba diving. …And we’re way out on the Great Barrier Reef, and I had just found out that my divorce had been finalized, I was terrified of swimming with sharks, and I was just staring at the water like, ‘What’s happened in my life?’

Then she painted the picture, explaining, “And then out of the water pops Matthew. No shirt, full gear, spits out the regulator. And he’s like…”

Even down to his physical gestures, Kate unleashes the brilliance, drawling, “Come on, Hudson – let’s go baby, uh huh. It’s like 1969 down there, baby, it’s Woodstock, man.”

Check out the brilliance for yourself in the below video. All hail Kate Hudson, queen of the McConaissance!

Keanu Reeves As Wolverine Or Batman? It Could’ve Happened

by 6 mins ago

While promoting his latest film “John Wick,” Keanu Reeves let spill a hidden casting desire: he’s a fan of adamantium claws and tight black bodysuits. (We’re presuming.)

“I always wanted to play Wolverine,” the actor told Moviefone. “But I didn’t get that. And they have a great Wolverine now. I always wanted to play The Dark Knight. But I didn’t get that one. They’ve had some great Batmans. So now I’m just enjoying them as an audience.”

Our heads are spinning a little considering what could’ve been – a bulked-up Reeves in full-body black, bat-ear-clad head craned towards the sky to spy a batsignal, growling, “Woah” as he slides into his Batmobile and speeds away. Or a wild-haired, mutton-chopped Reeves accosted by a group of baddies, muttering, “Excellent” before unsheathing his metal claws and kicking butt.

Great, now we’re sad (Keanu).

The Hollywood casting process is as dramatic as its screenplays, it seems. For our part, we’re glad to see Reeves flexing his action chops with revenge thrillers like “John Wick” – and we’re still completely on board with “Bill and Ted 3.”

We especially love that Reeves is such a good sport in the face of disappointment, praising Jackman and Batmen of yore. The pressure’s on, Ben Affleck!

Selena Gomez Has A Lot In Common With The Roller Coaster Emotions Of Her ‘Rudderless’ Character

by 8 mins ago

Additional reporting by Nicole Pajer

The wait for Selena Gomez’s edgy performance in actor William H. Macy’s directorial debut “Rudderless” is over!

Gomez – who plays the bereaved girlfriend of a boy killed in a school shooting – already revealed she plans to continue balancing acting with singing (her performance of the film’s theme song is a pretty good example of that fact), but she also dropped some surprisingly personal knowledge about her character to MTV News at the film’s press day.

Sitting down with co-star Felicity Huffman, the actress divulged that she can relate to her character’s strong, rapidly changing emotions.

“I can relate to her on the level of being her age and already being uncomfortable figuring out who you are,” Gomez said. “And how to control your emotions and ‘what does this mean?’ and ‘what does that mean?’”

Perhaps her very public (and confusing) personal relationship added fuel to that fire? Regardless, we’re all for confronting hardships through art – you do you, Selena!

“Rudderless” is currently in theaters and On Demand.

Candice Accola’s Wedding Was Basically A ‘Vampire Diaries’ Reunion

by 29 mins ago

It’s all too fitting that Candice Accola (better known as vampire Caroline Forbes to fans of “The Vampire Diaries”) gathered friends and family in New Orleans yesterday (October 18) to celebrate her marriage to The Fray’s Joe King. New Orleans has a storied history of vampire lore, after all – and it served as an incredible backdrop for a mini-reunion of her “Vampire Diaries” castmates.

Stefan Salvatore himself – Paul Wesley – attended, as did Kat Graham (Bonnie Bennett), Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood), Claire Holt (Rebekah) and the show’s executive producer Julie Plec. The Elena-Damon whirlwind that is Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder sadly weren’t in attendance, but Somerhalder sent a sweet Instagram message from a set in Atlanta.

The actors shared their own personal New Orleans “Diaries” throughout their time in town – Wesley signaled his arrival with a video of locals performing…

Graham ogled some gator heads…

…and perhaps sampled a few, according to Trevino.

Holt snapped a shot with her dapper date…

…and Plec summed the evening up with one magic word.

The actress and guitarist first met in 2011, when Accola starred in The Fray’s music video for “Love Don’t Die.” The couple announced their engagement in May 2013, via Accola’s Instagram.

Russell Brand Almost Got Arrested For Filming His Web Series Outside Fox News

by 24 mins ago

Fox News host Sean Hannity and comedian Russell Brand are continuing their war of words – and it recently got quite heated.

The verbal kerfuffle began months ago when Brand took to his YouTube web series “The Trews” to criticize Hannity’s coverage of the Israel-Gaza conflict – Hannity’s response was to amass a three-person panel in response, calling Brand a “D-list actor” – to which Brand responded with yet another video critique.

Somewhere among all this contention, Hannity agreed to have Brand on his show to talk things out IRL – but he recently reneged the invitation. An angry Brand showed up at Fox News headquarters in New York City on Thursday to film an episode of “The Trews,” which summoned security. A guard asked him, “You want to get arrested?” but Brand didn’t back down – questioning who owns the property and eventually entering the building and attempting to leave a message for Hannity.

You can watch the drama unfold on the full webisode below. Brand is certianly industrious – we doubt this is the end of the duo’s fighting words, but we’d love to see them matched on an even playing field.

Apparently, Cats Don’t Actually Like It When You Pet Them

by 20 mins ago

You may want to back away – slowly – from your mid-catastrophe kitty. Turns out, a new poll reveals you’re doing it all wrong when it comes to scratching away feline stress.

The UK’s leading feline welfare charity, Cat’s Protection, recently released the results of a survey that revealed cat owners don’t understand the deepest needs of their pets.

“Being held or stroked for too long can be very stressful for some cats,” said Cat’s Protection’s Behaviour Manager Nicky Trevorrow. “Space and peace is often what they need – they’re not small furry humans, so what would comfort us won’t necessarily comfort them.”

As for the argument that our befuzzed friends aren’t simply miniature people masquerading in cat suits, we’d like to present evidence in the form of Taylor Swift‘s kitty Meredith:

#NAILEDIT

Regardless of our totally air-tight defense, it seems more than half of the cat owners questioned said they calm their stressed out feline with a snuggle or hug – which is apparently the exact opposite of what they should do.

We’re thinking it’s only a matter of time before our feline overlords team up with the world’s particularly ornery swan population to form a united front of hands-offery. We’ll just be waaaay over there, deciphering the morse code of our tabby’s purrs.

Watch Ben Affleck’s Passionate Defense Of Islam On Bill Maher’s Show

by 2 mins ago

On a show known for its heated debates, Friday night’s epic “Real Time With Bill Maher” showdown between guest Ben Affleck and host Bill Maher may go down as the fieriest in the HBO talk show’s history.

It all began when Affleck – who joined the four-person panel (along with journalist Nicholas Kristof, author Sam Harris and political analyst Michael Steele) to promote his newly released film “Gone Girl” – disagreed with Maher and Harris’ broad negative view of people practicing Islam.

“It’s gross – it’s racist,” said Affleck. After Harris explained that we need to criticize bad ideas, and called Islam “the motherload of bad ideas,” Affleck scoffed, “That’s an ugly thing to say.” “How about the more than a billion people who aren’t fanatical, who don’t punch women, who just want to go to school?” Affleck continued.

The debate just heated up from there, with Harris and Maher imploring that radical Islam doesn’t simply constitute “a few bad apples” – when Steele added that the voices in opposition aren’t being given the same platform as extremists, Maher fired back, “Because it’s the only religion that’s like the Mafia – that will f–king kill you if you say the wrong thing, draw the wrong picture or write the wrong book.”

This set Affleck off again – and, suffice it to say, we can understand why rumors of a career in politics have been swirling around the activist Hollywood A-lister for years.

‘Inherent Vice’ Just Got More Awesome: It Features An Unreleased Radiohead Song

by 21 mins ago

Press pause on your thousandth play of the insanely brilliant “Inherent Vice” trailer for a moment, because we have news that’ll delight you: according to Slate, the film features an unreleased song from Radiohead called “Spooks.”

The instrumental track was unveiled during a 2006 concert in Cophenhagen, and has promptly gone the way of the unrecorded track (the below YouTube video from the show, notwithstanding) – until now.

The song has a psychedelic west coast vibe that seems like a perfect fit for director Paul Thomas Anderson’s adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel. And the inclusion isn’t much of a stretch – “Inherent Vice” is scored by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood (who also collaborated with PTA on the scores of “There Will Be Blood” and “The Master”), so it’ll likely be an extension of Greenwood’s established acoustics.

Could this be cross-promotion for Radiohead’s upcoming album? Greenwood confirmed they’d be convening in the studio this fall, but the track listing and release schedule remain a mystery.

“Inherent Vice” hits theaters December 12.

The End Of An Era: Goodbye, Saturday Morning Cartoons

by 14 mins ago

“Tom and Jerry.” “Scooby-Doo.” “The Smurfs.” “Charlie Brown.” “G.I.Joe.” “Ghostbusters.” “DuckTales.” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” Whether you watched these shows fresh or in syndication, they’re synonymous with bed head, pajamas and endless bowls of cereal.

We’re talking Saturday morning cartoons – and as of last weekend, the era of languidness animated from 8:00am to noon has come to an end.

On Saturday, September 27, 2014 the CW aired the last remaining Saturday morning cartoon block – effectively ending a continuous animated reign that spanned over 50 years. The competition from other networks airing live-action shows, along with failing viewership, were just too much for the network – they replaced the block with a series of educational shows aimed at teenagers.

So what did Saturday morning cartoons in? It’s been a slow decline – starting in the 1990s. As the Washington Post reports, NBC was the first network to make the switch from cartoons to teen comedies (“Saved by the Bell,” anyone?) on Saturday morning. It didn’t take long for ABC and CBS to follow.

Additionally, viewership fell sharply between the 1980s – when the sacred lazy Saturday tradition pulled in up to 20 million viewers – and the 2000s, when hit shows were lucky to nab 2 million. Throw in the rise of cable television, along with streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, and the impending end of an era was ushered.

We’re smarting right in the nostalgia over this one – it’s inconceivable that generations of kids will now wake on ...
