‘Inherent Vice’ Just Got More Awesome: It Features An Unreleased Radiohead Song

Press pause on your thousandth play of the insanely brilliant “Inherent Vice” trailer for a moment, because we have news that’ll delight you: according to Slate, the film features an unreleased song from Radiohead called “Spooks.”

The instrumental track was unveiled during a 2006 concert in Cophenhagen, and has promptly gone the way of the unrecorded track (the below YouTube video from the show, notwithstanding) – until now.

The song has a psychedelic west coast vibe that seems like a perfect fit for director Paul Thomas Anderson’s adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel. And the inclusion isn’t much of a stretch – “Inherent Vice” is scored by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood (who also collaborated with PTA on the scores of “There Will Be Blood” and “The Master”), so it’ll likely be an extension of Greenwood’s established acoustics.

Could this be cross-promotion for Radiohead’s upcoming album? Greenwood confirmed they’d be convening in the studio this fall, but the track listing and release schedule remain a mystery.

“Inherent Vice” hits theaters December 12.
