Meek Mill Says Kid Cudi Can ‘Rap About Sniffing Coke’ If He Wants

There shouldn’t be a hierarchy of lyrical content in rap, according to Meek Mill. The Philly MC won’t tell you what to rap about, but you better not try to limit his subject matter, either.

“I seen Kid Cudi say, ‘Yeah, they rap about money, cars, and hoes, and all this stuff,’” Meek said during an interview on “The Breakfast Club” on Power 105.1 earlier this week. “And I’m like, ‘Bro, we don’t tell y’all what to rap about.’ If he choose to rap about sniffing coke, I ain’t gonna say nothing about him rapping about that.”

Meek’s comments came in response to an opinion that Cudder voiced on “The Arsenio Hall Show” in March.

“I feel like the braggadocio, ‘Money, cash, hoes’ thing needs to be deaded,” the 30-year-old said. “That’s holding us back as a culture, as black people. That doesn’t advance us in any way, shape or form. We’ve been doing that same thing for years now…Why not tell kids something that they can connect with and use in their lives?”

For the Maybach Music Group rapper, though, it all comes down to the quality of music an artist is making.

J. Cole wanna rap about college, I might wanna hear the experience of college; I never been to college,” he said. “You know what I’m saying? Rap is rap, man. It’s about how you putting them words together. How you making them flows sound on that beat. And how you making good music.”

“The game be like trying to bounce the street rappers out,” he said. “It’s like bad right now. It’s kinda coming back. Boosie just came home. Hov just jumped on a real street record [DJ Khaled’s ‘They Don’t Love You No More’]. Meek Mill back in effect.”

Meek’s sophomore album, Dreams Worth More Than Money, is due out this summer. The disc’s lead single, “I Don’t Know,” dropped on Monday.
