After months of torturous anticipation, “Once Upon a Time” finally debuted its big “Frozen” premiere on Sunday (September 28), with a flashback-heavy episode that gave us the “Tale of Two Sisters” while also revealing an exciting new path for Regina, as well as a certain iconic hat that promises more Disney goodness to come.
Read on for all of the biggest moments, but be warned: spoilers (and snowmen) lie ahead!
A ‘Frozen’ Plot Gets A Makeover

First thing’s first, Iggy Azalea is the realest. Also, on “Once Upon A Time,” the “Frozen” plot was revealed so let’s start with that.
So, as it turns out, when the King and Queen of Arendelle set off on that ill-fated boat voyage in the movie, they were really going to find something that might help Elsa’s little “problem.” The show’s version of Elsa learned about this after the events of the film and told her sister, so before Anna was able to marry Kristoff, she — despite Elsa’s objections — set off for sights unknown to get her hands on whatever it was that her parents were looking for.
Only problem is, that something-something was located in the Enchanted Forrest, and we all know what happened there. What happened to Anna during the curse is still unknown, though her necklace is in Gold’s shop, which I guess is a good sign? Either way, Elsa is now in Storybrooke for good, and she kicked off her tenure by making a giant snow monster, freezing things, and generally terrorizing the population as she hid in plain sight.
Snow And Charming Enjoy Maternity/Paternity Leave
Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas had a baby in real life in addition to onscreen last May, which undoubtedly explains Snow and Charming’s very limited role throughout the episode. They showed up a couple of times in group scenes, but so far there’s no real development for these two. Of course I hope there’s more, but it’s kind of hard not to be excited for the show’s most stable couple making things work in our realm.
The Evil Queen Tries To Rewrite The Book

As bad as Elsa’s frozen kingdom 2.0 might be — and judging from the “Emma is freezing to death” previews, it will be bad — the citizens of Storybrooke might have an even worse threat to deal with once Regina finds the capital-A Author and changes the stories in that book. (You know, the Grimm’s book that also occasionally covers Disney, L. Frank Baum, and Mary Shelley.)
The newly single Regina came to this decision when she saved Marian’s (who is a total snooze, by the way) life during a snow monster attack. She was tired of being labeled the “no happy ending” bad guy when she had really changed her ways, and I guess finding an author is infinitely better than traveling back in time to kill Marian which was her original plan, so.
(ASIDE: This episode featured the re-appearance of Giancarlo Esposito’s Sidney Glass/Magic Mirror, who had been tucked away in NBC’s “Revolution” a mental ward this whole time.)
Emma And Hook Almost Hook Up

The good news is, Hook and Emma almost hooked up. The bad news is, the key word here is “almost.”
After the tumultuous events of last season’s finale, Hook was ready to call it a day and snuggle up with Emma and some “Orange is the New Black” on Netflix. However, Emma quickly put a stop to things, stating that the disappearance of heartbroken Regina counted as a crisis. (“There is always a crisis,” Hook replied. Fair.)
The non-couple then helped out in the fight against Elsa’s snow monster, but Emma’s Marian guilt was still too heavy for a serious snuggle session. She set off in search of Regina, but not without planting a goodbye kiss on Hook. It was cute, but I think he wanted a bit more.
“I have all the time in the world,” he (very dryly) said. “Unless another monster appears and kills me.”
Rumple Finds A Cool New Hat
Surprise! Looks like “Frozen” isn’t the only F-word Disney movie coming to Storybrooke this year — after a mini-moon with Belle, during which the couple went full on “Beauty and the Beast” with the dress, the music, and everything else that will make shipper fan hearts soar, Rumple made a discovery that will likely change the tides in Storybrooke very, very soon.
The empty, beach-view house that Belle found had been abandoned some time ago, but its former owner clearly shared Rumple’s proclivity for rare, magical artifacts. Rumple used the dagger he’s still hiding from Belle to expose what was hiding in this magical, golden cuff-thing he found in house, which ended up being the iconic blue hat from “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” sequence in “Fantasia.”
Was Mickey behind this all along?! I never trusted that guy. Not after what he did to Donald.
