Which Commercials Won The 2014 Super Bowl?

You all know what the Super Bowl is really about: the commercials. Though the Seattle Seahawks may have handily taken home the Vince Lombardi Trophy, the race for best advertisement was much closer. Here are our picks for the best of the best:

7. Chevrolet, “Life”
Other spots had the stars and the special effects… But they all paled in comparison to the emotional wallop this simple ad packed: Featuring little more than a somber song from Norwegian singer Ane Brun and a powerful message of inspiration and strength, this one gave us goosebumps. And when was the last time you could say that about a Super Bowl commercial?

6. SquareSpace
Don’t know what Squarespace does, don’t care, but we’re suckers for freaks on parade. Even if their ad lifted from Dave Chappelle’s skit “If the Internet was a real place.”

5. “Transformers: Age of Extinction
At this point, you’ve probably made up your mind about the “Transformers” series. But while the ad assured fans that the Bay-hem we’ve come to know and love will still be there, for those who have been turned off from the series? Dinobots. If your pulse didn’t quicken seeing Optimus Prime wielding a sword, riding a dinosaur robot, you don’t love movies.

4. TurboTax
Off the bat, you really can’t go wrong with actor John C. Reilly. No matter what. And we think this ad was for TurboTax, but who cares? We’d listen to Reilly read scripts from “Liv and Maddy.”

3. RadioShack
So how does an outdated electronic store shed it’s old school image? You book Hulk Hogan, Kid ‘n Play, Dee Snider and Alf for your big budget Super Bowl commercial, that’s how. Never mind millennial stars, RadioShack blew the dust of their 1980s black book and got our beloved icons from yesteryear to kick-off their new brillant ad campaign. Take that, Best Buy!

2. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Now, that’s how you do a movie trailer at the Super Bowl. The short look at “Cap 2” played off the patriotism inherent in both the Marvel hero, and the event itself. It showed off the characters, stupendous action, and ended with a killer shot of the villainous Winter Soldier smashing Cap right in the shield. Best part, though? It was a gateway to a longer, jaw-dropping trailer waiting online. A huge, huge win all around. Only two months to go…

1. Bud Light
We saw the teasers in the weeks leading up to the Big Game: Arnold Schwarzenegger as a ping-pong pro, Don Cheadle leading a llama, etc. And sure, they made our eyes roll back in our heads. But when the entire Bud Light spot played out, we loved the premise — regular dude gets taken for the ride of his life thanks to Budweiser’s refreshing light beer — and the payoff: one gigantically awesome party. Hey, the game might have sucked, but at least we had fun.
