Shailene Woodley: Jennifer Lawrence’s Advice Made ‘Divergent’ Decision ‘So Much Easier’

With the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Veronica Roth's actress Shailene Woodley will join the rarified ranks of highly scrutinized young-adult heroines that already includes Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart and Jennifer Lawrence. And after spending five years on the ABC Family series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," you can hardly blame Woodley for hesitating when it came to signing another multi-year contract for a teen-skewing franchise.

As it turns out, we have Lawrence to partially thank for Woodley finally deciding to hop aboard the Dauntless train. As Woodley told Vanity Fair recently, she received some advice from "The Hunger Games" actress that she really took to heart. She recounted the story to MTV News recently while promoting another upcoming adaptation "The Spectacular Now" (out August 2):

"I still don't know her. I've never met her," Woodley said. "She was kind enough — I asked her, 'How do you feel about 'Hunger Games' and having started in movies like 'Winter's Bone' and being recognized for that, do you feel 'Hunger Games' was a smart decision for your personal life and your anonymity?' All of these sort of concerns one has before taking on a movie like this. She said, 'You'd be a fool not to take it. Some things change. Don't make a sex tape, don't do drugs, don't go to Whole Foods when the movie opens. Other than that, just, like, live your life and have fun.' Yeah, hearing that from her was really grounding and sort of made the decision so much easier because I ...

Will ‘The Wolverine’ Claw His Way To #1 At Box Office?

It looks like the sixth time is the charm for the world's most famous Canadian superhero.

Hugh Jackman was an unknown actor when Bryan Singer cast him as Wolverine at the eleventh hour. Comic movies were in a sorry state after the debacle that was 1997's "Batman & Robin" but Jackman was the breakout star of the well-received "X-Men" film in 2000, leading the Australian actor to starring roles in huge pictures like "Swordfish," "Real Steel" and "Les Misérables."

But Wolverine remains the one role identifies Jackman. As told the Hall H crowd at last week's San Diego Comic-Con, Jackman and Wolverine go together like Sean Connery and James Bond. Riding a wave built on twice as many positive reviews as "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" as well as a killer cameo in "X-Men: First Class," the new flick based on Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's early-'80s miniseries is set to easily take the top spot at this weekend's box office.

Industry estimates put the "Wolverine" debut between $60 to $75 million, which will provide a welcome shot (of adamantium?) in the arm of the summer blockbuster season, particularly in light of big-budget bombs like

3-D screenings and a Thursday-evening opening will help, as well as the promise of a higher-caliber and more-character-driven Wolverine tale. Mangold has worked on "Girl, Interrupted," the remake of "3:10 to Yuma" and the Johnny Cash biopic "Walk the Line." He first worked with Jackman on "Kate & Leopold," Jackman's third post-"X-Men" film in America.

Though Fox let the rights to "Daredevil" lapse and return to Marvel, ...

Frank Ocean Scraps Tour After Vocal Issues

Frank Ocean's trip down under was a short one. The Odd Future crooner was forced to cancel his sold-out Australian tour after struggling through vocal problems during his kick-off show at Melbourne's Festival Hall on Thursday night.

Ocean tried to soldier on through the Melbourne date, but was forced to cancel the second date scheduled for Friday night (July 26) as well as an appearance at Sunday's Splendour in the Grass festival and two shows next week at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion.

It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal cords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice."

The mini Australian tour was organized around the Splendour date and that show's organizers also expressed their dismay at the cancelation. "With Splendour already in full swing, this is devastating news for the event and will be for many of our patrons," read a statement from a spokesperson.

Ocean recently unveiled three new songs
at a tour date in Munich, Germany, ...

Lady Gaga’s Return To The VMAs: A Comeback And A Coronation

It's fitting that Lady Gaga will make her triumphant return to the stage at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards ... after all, since she burst on the scene five years ago, the show has served as her own personal catwalk, throne room, theater, soap box, studio, gallery, performance art space and launching pad.

Now, it will play host to her rebirth.

It's not a stretch to say that, outside of any artist not named Madonna or Britney or Beyonce (cue the angry comments!) there is no artist as synonymous with the VMAs as Gaga. Beginning in 2009— when she first creeped out Eminem while accepting her Best New Artist Moonman, then thoroughly terrified all of America with her bloody performance of "Paparazzi" — and running all the way through her gender-bending turn as Jo Calderone in 2011, the Mother Monster has continually found new was to shock and amaze. She has routinely stolen the show, dominated blog discussions the following day, and managed to outshine a room full of the biggest stars on the planet.

Photos: Lady Gaga's Best VMA Moments

In short, she is one of the few who seem to realize the stage and scope of the VMA stage, but rather than shrink from the spotlight, she seizes it, occasionally shines it directly into our eyes, and always leaves us dazzled. She's delivered epic performances, touching personal moments, and even album launches. She's won a staggering 13 Moonmen in just four years. How great has her impact been on this show? ...

‘The Wolverine’: The Secret Behind Jean Grey

For months and months leading up to the release of "The Wolverine," Famke Janssen repeatedly told the press that she did not reprise her role as Jean Grey in the "X-Men" spinoff. But after she turned up in the trailers for the film, Janssen offered a mea culpa to MTV News' Josh Horowitz for lying about her participation.

"I sincerely apologize, but I was sworn to secrecy," Janssen told Horowitz. "I had no choice but to lie. Don't ask me any more questions," she said with a laugh.

Janssen said that she undertook the role with great secrecy, although she was worried that just the process of going to the set — which required an extremely long plane ride around the world where she might be spotted — would spoil the surprise for fans. "The studio called me and said it's a big secret — and we want to keep it a secret," she said. "It was a lot of hurdles to go through but we went through all of them, swimmingly. I was even able to lie to you and many other people, which is terrible, because I'm not a liar."

Although she acknowledged that it had been six years since she played the role of Jean Grey, Janssen said that it felt incredibly comfortable. But at the same time, she observed that the character always managed to be different in each film where she portrayed the character. "It's a different Jean Grey, and you know what? I'm lucky, because I've been a different Jean Grey every single time I've ...

‘Romeo & Juliet’ Exclusive Trailer: Watch Now!

Stars will cross for a whole new generation when Shakespeare's doomed lovers return in a lavish re-telling of "Romeo & Juliet" — and MTV News has your exclusive first look at the trailer.

Adapted by "Downton Abbey" creator Julian Fellowes and directed by Carlos Carlei, the film stars Academy Award nominee Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth as the titular twosome — children of feuding houses of Verona, forbidden from being together. It just may be, as the clip relays in big, bold letters, "The most dangerous love story ever told."

And all the requisite moments are here: Romeo and Juliet's first meeting at a glamorous masquerade ball, Tybalt's confrontation with Romeo and resulting duel with Mercutio, and that starry night on a moon-lit balcony where Juliet declares her love.

Bard lovers aren't the only ones who will surely rejoice over this trailer. Fans of Fellowes and his British period drama will also find a lot to love in this first look, which boasts lush sets, beautiful costuming and plenty of familial drama (the Crawleys haven't seen anything yet!).

Steinfeld and Booth are joined by an impressive cast of supporting players, including "Homeland" star Damian Lewis as Lord Capulet, Paul Giamatti as Friar Laurence, Ed Westwick as Tybalt and Stellan Skarsgard as the Prince of Verona.

Amanda Bynes’ Psychiatric Hold Extended

After an initial 72-hour involuntary psychiatric hold expired on Thursday night, a California judge granted a request from Amanda Bynes' parents that their daughter's hospital stay be extended for up to two more weeks.

According to E! Online, Bynes was represented by a court-appointed attorney at the hearing on Thursday, where Rick and Lynne Bynes asked Amanda's doctors to recommend that it was in the actress' best interest to remain hospitalized.

Click Here To Read What Happens During a 5150 Hold.

MTV News spoke to psychiatrist Dr. Jody M. Rawles earlier this week about the mechanics of the 5150 psychiatric hold
and he said that an extension of the initial order is not that uncommon. "If you are setting fires on someone else's property and are disorganized and give answers to questions that don't make sense, a peace officer might put in for a 5150," said Rawles, who runs the acute inpatient unit at UC-Irvine and has no first-hand knowledge of the Bynes case.

California's 5150 allows for someone to be involuntarily hospitalized if they are deemed a danger to themselves, others or if they have a grave disability that renders them unable to provide for their food, clothing or shelter needs. If doctors and family members feel that more time is needed to assess the patient's needs, a hearing is held for an extension of the involuntary hold, which is then coded 5250, according to Rawles.

"If after the 72 hours they feel the patient is still a danger to themselves or other and they won't stay voluntarily, then you ...

Cory Monteith Honored At Emotional ‘Glee’ Cast Memorial

The cast of "Glee" gathered on the 20th Century Fox lot on Thursday night for a private memorial service for late co-star Cory Monteith, 31. The event, two weeks after Monteith's death
from what coroners said was a lethal mixture of heroin and alcohol marked the first time the "Glee" gang had gotten together since the tragic news of Monteith's passing.

Though no cameras or press were allowed, 20th Century Fox Television issued a statement about the memorial. "Today, Ryan Murphy and Lea Michele gathered the cast, crew and producers of Glee, along with colleagues from the network and studio, to share memories and music in an emotional celebration of the life of Cory Monteith," read the note. "We thank the public for their continued outpouring of love and support as we grieve our friend and colleague during this difficult time."

People magazine reported that Murphy and Michele were joined by such co-stars as Kevin McHale, Chord Overstreet (carrying a guitar) and Darren Criss at the indoor/outdoor event for more than 150, described as "somber" and tear-filled. Guests, many dressed in black, mingled and dined on a buffet-style meal while listening to "Glee"-appropriate songs such as the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" and wearing black ribbons in honor of their friend and co-star.

Also on Thursday, co-star Chris Colfer joined a number of his fellow castmates
in paying personal tribute to Monteith with an Instagram post of one of their joint interviews promoting the show. "I'll never forget all the laughs we shared or the faces we made after awkward ...
