The Story Behind ‘Gone Girl’s Most Insane Scene

by 13 mins ago

I’m going to be frank. If you haven’t seen “Gone Girl,” you have no business reading this article. Even if you’ve read the book, but haven’t seen the movie, don’t read this. Go see it. Then come back and read.

FINAL SPOILER WARNING

Since you’ve definitely seen “Gone Girl,” I can imagine that you’d like to know the story behind that scene. You know, the one where, to escape from Desi (Neil Patrick Harris), Amy (Rosamund Pike) cuts his throat, mid-coitus, with a box cutter. That scene.

As gruesome as the scene was to watch unfold, on set it was a carefully planned and professionally executed (excuse the pun) by director David Fincher, the cast and crew.

“I remember thinking of brilliantly planned it was,” Pike said when we spoke with her during the “Gone Girl” press day. “There were lots of moving parts. It involved a major reset of the set and the actors after every time we ran through it.”

The crew shot just that scene for two full days, completely resetting the actors and the set after every take, and since Fincher is known for his love of multiple takes, that meant a lot of blood removal.

“It was like a military operation. The room, basically after every take, had to be completely reset,” Pike said. “It was like one load of furniture went out, and another load of furniture came in. We went out and came back as ...

Critics Say Maroon 5’s Bloody New Video Glorifies Stalking, Violence, And Treats Women Like Meat

by 14 mins ago

The images are disturbing: a creepy looking, blood-spattered Adam Levine stalking his real-life wife, Behati Prinsloo, who plays the object of his obsession in Maroon 5‘s just-released “Animals” video. Some call it art, others have decried the video for glorifying stalking and violence against women. So we’re taking a deeper look at the video, the lyrics, and the implications of its disturbing imagery.

The Video

In the Samuel Bayer-directed clip, Levine plays a man who photographs, follows and daydreams about being with Prinsloo, who seems unaware of his presence and ignores his come-ons in a bar. Levine is seen lurking around Prinsloo, curling up next to her sleeping body in bed and bathing with her in a shower of blood. The end of the video reveals that Levine’s been watching her from afar, photographing her, and fantasizing about the gory, bloody sex scene. The video ends chillingly with Levine standing outside in a dark storm, watching from her outside of her home.

The Lyrics
“Baby, I’m preying on you tonight / Hunt you down eat you alive… Maybe you think that you can hide / I can smell your scent from miles / Just like animals.” The group is clearly using the idea of animals as a musical metaphor for primitive desire, but coupled with the video’s stalker imagery, it’s not hard to see why their message can be perceived as a violent game of cat and mouse where the female object of Levine’s desire is threatened, endangered, and powerless.

How Did RZA And Raekwon Make Up? The Wu-Tang MCs Explain

by 23 mins ago

With reporting by James Lacsina

For a while, it looked like Wu-Tang Clan’s upcoming album, A Better Tomorrow, would be released without Raekwon’s participation, as the Shaolin MC was butting heads with fellow Clansman RZA.

Thankfully, the two were able to put their issues in the past, and now the whole gang is on board for the album, which will be released through Warner Bros. on December 2.

“We did have a hard time seeing eye-to-eye,” RZA admitted to MTV News on Thursday. “And it was more like two strong generals not coming to the table.”

“I got off my high horse and I said, I’m gonna come to your studio. I brought him the outline of the album, with songs done, and some energy of where we at. Him and Ghostface were there. Me, GZA and Masta Killa. And then they started playing some chess while me and Raekwon had a meeting and I played the structure of the album. I think, that day, he understood the vision.”

“From there, it’s been a positive growth. Business was one thing which we had to get over, and settled our business differences, but once our creative differences was understood — I recall playing one of the songs and he was like, ‘OK, I see what you doing. You’re going different, but the difference is something good.’”

The two have had a number of public spats in recent years, with the producer asking Rae to “forget the money,” and ...

‘Teen Mom 2′ Bonus Scene: Nathan Wants To Give Jace ‘The Best Shot At Life’

by 2 mins ago

On the season finale of “Teen Mom 2,” Jenelle and Nathan spoke with Barbara about a plan to regain custody of Jace. And in the bonus scene below, the young couple visits a park with the kids and reflects on the conversation.

“He needs to be in a stable environment so he does have the best shot at life, and I think we can provide that stable family for him,” says Nathan, who believes the chat with Jenelle’s mom went better than he’d expected. One reason: Barbara agreed that they wouldn’t need to go to court to begin the transition period of obtaining Jace.

Jenelle agrees with her beau and points out that she sees a change in the five-year-old when he’s spending time with them. “He listens to us very well, and every time he’s with us, he’s always on his best behavior. But when he’s over at my mom’s, he’s not.”

But how does Jace feel about the upcoming changes in his life? Watch the clip to hear his thoughts, and be sure to catch Part One of the “Teen Mom 2″ reunion on Wednesday at 10/9c.

by 16 mins ago

If you’ve been looking to pay homage to Drake‘s (supposed) new emoji tattoo but didn’t want to actually, y’know, ink your body forever with a tiny set of praying hands, today is your lucky day. Drake’s Emoji Tattoos—a Tumblr that imagines what Drake would look like with other tiny symbols etched onto his body—just released a long-sleeve Drake-inspired shirt.

The shirt features a large 6 on the front—Toronto 4eva, y’all—and the emoji hands on the right arm in approximately the same place Drizzy has his. Though the placement is accurate, the color of the actual emoji hands’ sleeves has been changed from blue to white—it fits in with the monochromatic color scheme better this way, OK?

The back features “#BLSSD” which, fittingly, ties in with the praying hands (THEY ARE NOT HIGH-FIVING—LET THAT FANTASY GO) and lets people know your life status when you’re wearing the shirt.

You can pre-order the shirt for $35 right now, and by November, you just might reconsider actually getting some emoji ink for yourself.

by 24 mins ago

In case you hadn’t heard, it’s October 3. To some, this means no more than if we announced that it was October 2 or October 4 or April 9 or any other day. To others, it means it’s your birthday. (If this is you, happy birthday!)

Everything The New ‘Are You The One?’ Cast Shouldn’t Do To Find Their Matches

by 32 mins ago

The premise of “Are You the One?” seems simple enough: 20 guys and girls living in paradise attempt — in 10 tries — to find their perfect (and scientifically proven) match. Throw in competitions with fantasy dates on the line, the Truth Booth and Match-up Ceremonies — plus a $1 million prize — and it’s ready, set, game on.

But when it comes to matters of the heart, emotions can run high. Throw in a dash of jealousy, and you’ve got a recipe that could derail the task at hand: finding true love. As we gear up for the show’s Season 2 premiere, here’s a look at some mistakes the original cast members made — and everything the new crew shouldn’t do while searching for their soul mate:

Don’t fall hard for someone on the first night.

chrisshanleykiss

Sure, a physical spark can be established instantaneously, but an emotional connection? That’s a different story. Case in point: When Chris T fell head over heels for Shanley as soon as they struck up a conversation and the two locked lips that first night. “Yes, it’s early, I know, but you can’t change the way somebody feels when it’s strong,” Chris declared, defending his unpopular action. Indeed, their behavior wasn’t well-received by their housemates — Kayla, for one, thought the duo was moving way too fast and jeopardizing the team’s goal; Ryan gawked as they engaged in some PDA. Soon enough, they learned the results of their compatibility tests in the ...
