11 Secrets From ‘The Walking Dead’ New York Comic-Con Panel

by 27 mins ago

With one day to go until the fifth season premiere of “The Walking Dead” on October 12, AMC’s New York Comic-Con panel was pitched to a frenzy by the time the cast hit the biggest stage in the Javits Center. Moderator Chris Hardwick showed off a scene from the fifth season premiere, and welcomed the cast and crew for a spirited chat in front of a standing ovation crowd.

Here’s everything we learned from the footage – and panel.

1. Terminus Is…

AMC

spoiler It’s people. The first scene from the season premiere was shown off, and yup, the “sanctuary” of Terminus is full of cannibals. Also noteworthy? “Gotham” break out star Robin Lord Taylor is the first one to bite it due to the hungry Terminus denizens.

“Everything you’ve felt for the past four years, you will feel in one episode,” Director Greg Nicotero said of the premiere.

2. It’s A Matter Of Time

The new season will be playing with time to get deeper into the characters, something that was teased in the premiere’s opening scene.

“It’s going to be more recent past, there’s something about ‘The Walking Dead’ that deals with the present,” showrunner Scott Gimple said. “We’re also going to play with time a bit. We’re going to get to delve into these characters.”

3. Comic, But Not Funny

Season 5 will be more based on the comic than usual, according to series creator Robert Kirkman – to the ...

Ryan Phillippe Is Going Nude, And Prepping For ‘MacGruber 2′

by 19 mins ago

You can catch Ryan Phillippe in thriller mode for “Catch Hell,” which he also wrote and directed. But after being captured and tortured for the film, which is currently in theaters and on iTunes, what Phillippe wants to do now is laugh. And get naked.

“I got nude for [Judd Apatow] and Amy Schumer,” Phillippe told MTV News about his role in his upcoming movie, “Trainwreck.”

This isn’t Phillippe’s first experience with comedy, either. He starred in 2010′s “MacGruber,” which is inching closer than ever to getting a sequel.

“We are going to do ‘MacGruber 2,’ we are very close to making [it],” Phillippe said. “And wait until you find out who’s going to be in it. The villain is going to blow your mind.”

How do you improve on Val Kilmer from the first movie? “You can,” Phillipe said, laughing.

So how does “MacGruber” go from, shall we say, not the biggest hit of all time to getting a sequel?

“They’re nearly done with the script, yeah. Will [Forte] and Jorma [Taccone] have been working on the script for a while, and there’s an audience for it now!” Phillippe continued. “So it bombs at the theaters, gets the worst reviews of all time, but every comedian that you know loves this movie.

“Now there’s college drinking games, there’s kids going out as our characters for Halloween. It’s going to be fun to see what happens when there is a second one. Even if it’s just Twitter mentions and people telling you how much ...

‘The Walking Dead’: Norman Reedus Reveals Daryl Is ‘Dirtier’ In Season 5

by 28 mins ago

Earlier this year MTV News was lucky enough to visit the set of AMC’s hit show “The Walking Dead,” which returns this Sunday (October 12). And no visit to the set is complete without checking in with the show’s resident ass-kicker, Norman Reedus – a.k.a. the crossbow wielding Daryl Dixon.

So what will happen with Daryl in season five? Because as fans know, if Daryl dies… We riot.

“He’s dirtier! His hair is longer!” Reedus said. “I can’t really tell you anything. It’s tough. If you look at these characters from the beginning, they’re all completely different from when we started the show. Everyone’s in constant movement. Everyone is evolving. Everyone is fighting for what they believe in, or not.”

And then Reedus went ahead and described how this season is different from previous seasons, using the phrase, “Boing, boing, boing, boing.”

Maybe you just need to watch the interview for yourself?

by 28 mins ago

The Death Of Wolverine” was just the beginning. Though Marvel’s most popular mutant may be dead and gone by the end of 2014, in January of 2015 the publisher will be launching a new weekly comic focused on all the sharp, sharp characters he’s left behind.

Wolverines-1-Cover-Redacted-mtvMarvel Comics

The news will be announced officially later today (October 11) at Marvel’s “DEATH OF WOLVERINE – THE LOGAN LEGACY” panel at New York Comic-Con, but MTV News is pleased to exclusively bring you the information on the next big step in Logan’s un-life, right here, right now.

Written by Charles Soule (“Death Of Wolverine”) and Ray Fawkes (“The Logan Legacy”), with art by Nick Bradshaw, the ongoing weekly finds Mystique, Daken, Sabretooth, X-23 and a few mystery characters uncovering secrets behind Wolverine’s death… As well as a healthy dose of good old fighting.

To find out more about the series – as well as show off covers and some interior art – we talked to Soule, Fawkes and Editor Mike Marts over e-mail:

Wolverines-1-Interior-Spread-mtvMarvel Comics

MTV News: Congrats on the new series, guys, but I’ve got to ask: how long are you going to wait before one of the cast shouts, “WOLVERIIIIINES!!!” while going down in a hail of bullets?

Mike Marts: Page 1, Panel 1!

Charles Soule: It doesn’t happen on every page, but it happens quite a bit. There are certain ingredients to a series like this that I feel are somewhat non-negotiable – fundamental parts of the architecture you ...

A Circus Clown Reacts To The ‘American Horror Story’ Murder Clown

by 5 mins ago

Yes, “American Horror Story: Freak Show” has some great actors, some incredible real life “freaks” and a ton of buzz behind it… But it also has a murderous clown named Twisty who will haunt our nightmares forever.

So how do real life circus clowns feel about “Freak Show” – and Twisty in particular? After the season premiere, we talked to on-the-road Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey clown LaRena Iocco to find out how close the “Freak Show” experience is to IRL:

MTV News: To start off, how close was “Freak Show” to what happens in a circus? Close at all?

LaRena Iocco: In some respects, you could say the show was very close, in that the circus is a very tight knit family/community. We all look out for each other, and stick up for each other even though we come from different backgrounds and countries. Circus life is something that I think no “normal” person can really understand, so we develop a found family within the circus who truly understand what our life is like.

MTV: Yeah, but come on, what about the murder clown.

Iocco: As a professional clown I have to be a little upset by anything that further perpetuates the fear of clowns. Obviously, as a clown I don’t understand this fear that society seems to have of clowns in general.

If you put someone in bloody make up and give them a knife, of course they’re going to be terrifying looking, but I don’t see how anyone can look ...

The Big Olicity Kiss On ‘Arrow’ Was Never Part Of The Plan

by 23 mins ago

When “Arrow” returns tonight (October 8) to The CW, you may hear the voices of thousands of ‘shippers cry out, as if all of their dreams had finally come true. That’s right, fans: on the season premiere, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Felicity Smoake (Emily Bett Rickards) – better known to fans as Olicity – will finally lock lips.

But, as we found out when we talked to “Arrow” Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim over the phone in advance of the premiere, the whole will they/won’t they was never part of the plan:

MTV News: So first of all, congratulations on Blake Lively’s baby, I know you were instrumental in bringing her and Ryan together. That’s got to feel good, right?

Marc Guggenheim: [Laughs] I’m glad there was some sort of follow up to the movie.

MTV: Yeah it’s a sequel. I’m kind of hoping they name the baby Hal…

Guggenheim: That would be awesome! Or Sinestro. One or the other.

MTV: Exactly, there’s your number one baby name this year. So to transition from babies into another romance thing, let’s talk Olicity. The fans are, of course, freaking out about the kiss that’s being teased in the first episode, but was that always part of the plan? Or did that naturally develop from the chemistry that Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards have on the show?

Guggenheim: You know it really just naturally developed. I mean, they have had incredible chemistry ever since season one… Just the way their scenes were playing, it sort ...

‘The Walking Dead’: See Every Time They’ve Said ‘Carl’

by 4 mins ago

Video by Avaryl Halley

We here at MTV News couldn’t be more excited by the return of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” Having seen the season premiere (read our spoiler-free thoughts here), pretty much everyone gets an awesome, badass moment… Even the internet’s favorite pudding-eating punching bag, Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs).

And though Carl has gone through a major evolution over the course of five seasons, his dad Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the rest of the post-apocalyptic zombie survivors still have a tendency to worry about his safety, wonder where Carl is, and generally say his name while wondering and worrying. A lot.

So naturally, we put together a supercut of every single time a character says “Carl” on the first four seasons of “The Walking Dead.” Guess who says his name only once? You’ll have to watch to find out.

Here’s How New Horror Comic ‘Wytches’ Was Inspired By ‘Frozen’

by 14 mins ago

“Wytches” is the most terrifying comic you’ve ever read, you just don’t know it yet. The Image Comics book by former “Batman” collaborators Scott Snyder (writing) and Jock (art) twists traditional witch folklore into something new and terrifying. Think “Blair Witch Project,” but with actual payoff and way more teeth scattered on the ground, and you’ve got the idea.

The first issue hits stores today (October 8), and in advance of the release we talked with Snyder about the book, how it (sort of) was inspired by “Frozen,” possible movie/TV plans — and why once you read the book, you’ll never go into the woods again.

WYTCHES#4coverBhiImage Comics

MTV News: Let’s talk a little bit about where this idea came from… Was there a piece of lore you read? Was there some particular thing, or was it just the idea of kind of starting from the ground up with witches and reinventing them?

Scott Snyder: It was more personal. I mean my folks, they’ve had this place right over the border in Pennsylvania since I was about five or six, and I used to go. First of all, I was afraid. I got Pennsylvania confused with Transylvania as a child, so I was constantly terrified to go there because I thought there were vampires all over the place.

As I got older, we realized that one of the neighbors had a kid my age, and the two of us, when we turned nine, 10, 11, started going walking or ...
