A Hush Falls On Gotham In ‘Batman Eternal #26′

by 10 mins ago

Each week, MTV News is breaking down the big moments in DC Comics’ “Batman Eternal,” the weekly series that is redefining Gotham City as we know it.

This week, we chatted with writer James Tynion IV about how the real life events in Ferguson may – or may not – have influenced the issue:

MTV News: Obviously given the way they’ve been talking this issue, the Bat-family may be physically together but they’re not emotionally on the same page, at all. What needs to happen for them to join together again, completely?

BMETRL_26_2DC Comics

James Tynion IV: The key thing is trust, which is something Bruce has never been all that great at instilling in his proteges. They know they need to come together, but each of them have their own agendas, things they’re playing close to their vest.

If there’s one thing that ties together the whole Bat-Family, it’s a dogged self-reliance… They all have mysteries and problems in front of them, and each of them want to be the ones who solve it themselves. That includes Bruce. They’re starting to see that all of this is bigger than each of them separately, and starting to understand that they’ll need to stand together to take it down.

But recognizing a problem and working to overcome it are two very separate things, and this story is FAR from over.

MTV: Batman says “It’s been Hush all along,” but HAS it been? Is there something else Batman isn’t seeing?

Tynion: Batman has good reason ...

Is [SPOILER] The Same Character On ‘Gotham’ And ‘Arrow’?

by 21 mins ago

Is The CW’s “Arrow” about to cross over with FOX’s “Gotham?” It seems unlikely, given the different networks and all… But a major plotline on tonight’s (September 29) episode of “Gotham” may suggest that the two shows are more linked than we first imagined.

Before we get into serious spoiler territory, a little bit of background. Though DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are the companies behind most, if not all of the multitude of DC Comics-based TV shows and movies about to hit your eyeballs over the next few years, they’ve been very clear that the properties won’t cross over.

During the Television Critics Association press tour for “Arrow” and “The Flash” – two shows that do exist in the same, shared universe – DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns explicitly stated that the duo of series wouldn’t meet up with Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.”

“It’s a separate universe than film so that the filmmakers can tell the story that’s best for film,” Johns told the press. “While we explore something different in a different corner of the DC universe. We will not be integrating the film and television universes.”

Which is well and good, but what about “Gotham,” not to mention NBC’s “Constantine,” TNT’s prospective “Titans,” FOX’s “Lucifer,” or CBS’ “Supergirl?” It’s not unheard of for networks to cross two shows over, but given the multitude of contracts involved, it certainly seems unlikely.

Except on “Gotham” we get the ...

Here’s The ‘Frozen’ Moment You Missed On The ‘Once’ Premiere

by 39 mins ago

The season four premiere of “Once Upon A Time” was chock-full of “Frozen” references, as promised. No, you didn’t get to hear anyone say “Let it go,” and there was no Olaf – but between Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and even reindeer Sven, there was plenty for fans to sing about.

But there was one “Frozen” moment that may have totally passed you by.

That’s because it didn’t involve Elsa, the giant snow-monster (you know, Marshmallow?) or anything from Arendelle. In fact, the moment snuck by because it instead was played out by two of the regular main cast members.

Here it is, and see if you can figure out the reference:

Once Upon A TimeABC

Did you get it? If not, you may want to build a snowman, because…

Do You Want To Build A SnowmanDisney

So it’s not a shot-for-shot remake or anything, and that’s what makes it more subtle than, say, the shot-for-shot remake of Anna & Elsa’s parents dying in the cold open. In this case, Emma (Jennifer Morrison) is trying to talk to a clearly upset Regina (Lana Parrilla). Emma goes to Regina’s office, rattles the doorknob, and says, “Regina, I know you’re in there.”

It’s a clear nod to the “Elsa, I know you’re in there,” lyric from “Do You Want To Build A Snowman;” as is Regina’s slumped over, crying position on the other side of the door, a parallel to how Elsa is ...

Why Did Chloe Grace Mortez Take The Role Of A Prostitute In ‘The Equalizer’?

by 25 mins ago

With reporting by Josh Horowitz

You might think, given that actress Chloe Grace Moretz has been so outspoken about her support of feminism – and Emma Watson’s recent #HeForShe movement in particular – that she wouldn’t jump at playing the role of a prostitute in this weekend’s “The Equalizer.” But as MTV found out when we caught up the star, that’s exactly why she took the part.

“That’s what attracted me to the script,” Moretz said. “She’s a girl who was sexualized by life, but the movie completely unsexualized her. You don’t see that with a lot of young female characters in general, but especially when you’re playing a prostitute, or a lady of the night… It’s usually very much exploited.”

Turns out, it wasn’t just Moretz pushing that angle for her character – who plays opposite Denzel Washington in the movie – it was also director Antoine Fuqua.

“What I loved is when I talked to Antoine, his immediate, biggest part was, ‘I’m not sexualizing her,’ ” Moretz continued. “You know what she does outside that diner. You know what she does when she gets in that limo with that guy. But who you know, and who you love is that young girl who wants to be a singer. That’s what you actually fall in love with.”

And even outside of the movie, Moretz found that real life women also shared this experience – making her role in an over-the-top action movie more realistic than most.

“When I met these girls at ...

‘Batman Eternal #25′: The One Where The Bad Guys Win

by 27 mins ago

Each week, MTV News is breaking down the big moments in DC Comics’ “Batman Eternal,” the weekly series that is redefining Gotham City as we know it.

This week, we chatted with writer James Tynion IV about how the bad guys finally win – and how that also brings the Bat-family back together:

MTV News: Let’s start off with the first page… Vicki essentially gets bullied by Jason Bard into publishing an inflammatory story. Is she starting to suspect something is wrong with Bard?

BMETRL_25_1DC Comics

James Tynion IV: She’s definitely starting to realize there’s something off about Jason Bard, and that’s something that’s going to unfold in the weeks to come. It’s very clear that right now, she has access to these bigger stories than she’s had before, and she’s eager to take part in them to that extent – but she doesn’t like the idea that she’s being manipulated.

Vicki’s story is far from done here.

MTV: There’s a fun scene following that with Harper and Red Robin. You’ve got the classic, girl throws boy, boy ties girl up with thing on his chest.

BMETRL_25_5DC Comics

Tynion: [Laughs] Classic moment.

MTV: I am misreading things here? Is there something flirty going on?

Tynion: There’s definitely a bit of tension there, and that’s definitely something we want to explore. But Harper also has very clear desires of what she wants to be, and ultimately her path towards becoming something more than just an ordinary person matters to her more than a ...

MTV Taste Test: We Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghostbusters Donuts

by 48 mins ago

This year is the 30th anniversary of “Ghostbusters,” and the 25th anniversary of “Ghostbusters II.” So how best to celebrate? With two themed donuts from Krispy Kreme, of course!

The limited edition Ghostbusters and Stay Puft Marshmallow confections are available at stores, but the good (delicious) folks at Krispy Kreme were nice enough to drop a dozen or two over at the MTV offices. So what did we think of these desserts? Did bustin’ our tummies make us feel good? Or were they something strange in the neighborhood? Watch the video above to find out!

The “Ghostbusters 30th” and “Ghostbusters II 25th” Anniversary editions are now available on Blu-ray at Ghostbusters.com.

‘Gotham’ Cast Does Their Best Christian Bale Batman Voices

by 3 mins ago

Tonight (September 22), FOX premieres “Gotham,” a look at DC Comics’ fabled city in a time before The Dark Knight took to the skies. But even with the prequel nature of the show, Batman looms large over everything… including the red carpet.

So naturally, when MTV News hit up the show’s big premiere event in New York, we asked the cast of “Gotham” – including young Bruce Wayne himself (David Mazouz) – to tell us why we should watch their show. The only catch? Sell the show using their best Christian Bale as Batman voice.

Hilarity, as they say, ensued (and for the record, we think Erin Richards, who plays Barbara Kean on the show, won the bat-off).

“Gotham” premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET.

42 Ways To Drive Any ‘Lost’ Fan Insane

by 8 mins ago

It’s been 10 years since “Lost” went off the air, and if you’re a hardcore fan, there hasn’t been a day where you still have not thought constantly about the island. Like, constantly. Get it? Constant?

And it isn’t just about all the mysteries, either: it’s that a decade on, there are things big, and small that will drive you crazier than Libby off her meds if you just let the non-hardcores get to you.

Here are 42 things you can do or say that will still drive any “Lost” fan insane:

42. Posting the number 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, or 42 anywhere.

Lost- Kate

41. “It was too complicated.”

LOST - Sayid

40. Not remembering every single detail of the continuity. It’s only been 10 years, get with the program.

Lost - Michael Emerson

39. Slipping references to “Lost” in shows that are not “Lost.”

38. “Did they ever explain the Smoke Monster?”

37. “What was up with that Hurleybird?”

Lost- Sawyer

36. “Oh, so they were just there to protect some sort of Laser-cave?”

Lost - Ben

35. “They never explained those two dead bodies from season one.”

Lost- Sawyer

34. Using a close-up shot of an eyeball in your movie/TV show. TOTAL RIP-OFF.

Lost - Eyeball

33. Getting Jack’s tattoos IRL.

32. Booking them on an airline flight 815, as if that’s supposed ...

DC And Warner Bros. Throw ‘Lucifer’ Out Of Heaven, And Straight Onto TV

by 27 mins ago

DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. TV have already launched “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and “iZombie” on The CW, “Gotham” on FOX, “Constantine” on NBC, and added a possible “Titans” series in the works for TNT. But their next move is about to send the Vertigo comic book universe straight to Hell, as FOX has ordered a pilot for long-running title “Lucifer.”

Produced by Aggressive Mediocrity in association with Warner Bros. Television, the put pilot – meaning it’s already been agreed to be put on air – is a one-hour drama Executive Produced and writer by Tom Kapinos (“Californication,” “Dawson’s Creek”) for FOX.

Here’s the logline:

“Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, Lucifer resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he opens an exclusive piano bar called Lux.”

The comic book spun out of fellow Vertigo/DC Comic “Sandman” (which is currently being developed for a film version by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and also has deep ties to the comic “Constantine” is based on. It’s doubtful the two will cross over, as they are other networks.

Stay tuned to MTV News as more breaks.
