‘Harry Potter’ Is Now The Most Influential Book In The World

by 14 mins ago

If your entire life was shaped by reading “Harry Potter,” don’t worry: so were the lives of most people.

A new study has found that J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” books are the most influential books in the world, beating out “Lord of the Rings,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and even The Bible.

The study comes from something that was going around Facebook, asking users to list the books that were most influential to them, telling them “Don’t take more than a few minutes and don’t think too hard. They do not have to be the ‘right’ books or great works of literature, just ones that have affected you in some way.”

According to The Telegraph, two researchers analyzed 130,000 of these answers and found that “Potter” was the most influential of any piece of literature, having been cited in 21 % of users’ lists. That’s over 7 % more than the second most influential book, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” got.

And to all those who say they’re just children’s books: the average age of the study participant was 37, meaning that person would have been 20 when the first “Potter” book came out. It just shows how universal the appeal of Rowling’s wizarding world is, and how it can span age groups, denominations, and generations of readers.

We’ve listed the top ten below, and you can find the rest of the list here:

1. “Harry Potter” Series
2. “To Kill a Mockingbird”
3. “The Lord of the Rings”
4. “The Hobbit”
5. “Pride and Prejudice”
6. “The Holy ...

Millennium Falcon Spotted On ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Set

by 9 mins ago

It can make the Kessel run in 12 parsecs, but the Millennium Falcon apparently can’t evade the lenses of some lucky pilot photographers.

According to TheForce.net, Matthew Myatt, a flight instructor and pilot in Britain, was just taking some routine photographs (or, you know, as routine as photographs taken while flying a plane can be) when he stumbled on a slightly different type of vehicle:

That’s right. He was able to snap a pic of both the Millennium Falcon and an X-Wing from the set of “Star Wars: Episode VII,” which which was filming at the RAF Greenham Common. A different aerial photographer, Justin Reeves, confirmed when he tweeted a pic at a different angle, where you get a better look at the X-Wing in its hangar, and can see the half-completed Falcon at the extreme right:

I don’t know how they were able to keep everything in frame; I would’ve been shaking from the excitement of the discovery. But Reeves did one better, actually taking video of the set, which he posted on Youtube.

What better way to get pics of our favorite flying rustbucket than from the sky?

What do you think of the Falcon and the rest of the set? Let us know!

Why Were Sam Claflin’s ‘Mockingjay’ Goodbyes ‘Bizarre’?

by 3 mins ago

With Reporting By Josh Horowitz

Although “Hunger Games” fans still have a few years to go before they say goodbye to their favorite characters, Sam Claflin’s goodbyes already happened.

But the hunky actor, who returns as Finnick in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1” and is at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote “The Riot Club,” had a bit of an awkward exit.

“It was bizarre,” Claflin said. “I think I’d said goodbye, and done all my goodbyes, and I remember feeling a little sad and anxious, kind of going, I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself for the rest of my life, I’m never going to work again.”

But Claflin’s fears were put to rest, pretty much immediately.

“After I said the final goodbye, they go, oh actually we need you to come in tomorrow to fill in this pick up,” Claflin said. “So I saw everybody the next day, and then I sort of left, and kind of felt a little weird.”

To add to the awkwardness, Claflin also left a week early, before most of the stars had wrapped on the movie.

“I got out early and avoided the whole heartbreak,” Claflin told us. But he added, “It’s really sad.”

But don’t be too sad, fans! You’ll get to see Finnick when “Mockingjay — Part 1″ opens November 21.

Al Pacino Reveals Why He Turned Down ‘Star Wars’

by 18 mins ago

With Reporting By Josh Horowitz

Al Pacino is currently wowing the crowds at the Toronto International Film Festival with his great performances in “Manglehorn” and “The Humbling.”

But the legendary actor almost had a very different career path: he was offered the role of Han Solo in “Star Wars,” but turned it down.

“It was at that time in my career where I was offered everything,” Pacino said. “I was in ‘The Godfather.’ They didn’t care if I was right or wrong for the role, if I could act or not act.”

Well, considering his performance in “The Godfather,” everyone probably had a sneaking suspicion he could act. So why did he turn down what would become one of the biggest movies ever?

“I remember not understanding it when I read it,” recalled Pacino, who then joked, “Another missed opportunity.”

But don’t fret, fanboys! There’s another franchise Pacino is a huge fan of himself: “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

“I was really impressed,” Pacino said. “It’s amazing and inventive and so funny, and dark and deep. It was very Shakespearean.”

But would Pacino ever consider being more than just a spectator at a Marvel movie?

“Yeah, I’m ready to go to Marvel,” he said.

You heard him, Marvel. Make him an offer he can’t refuse.

Chris Evans Really Wants To Tell You The Plot Of ‘Captain America 3′

by 18 mins ago

Chris Evans is at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote his new movie “Before We Go,” which constitutes his directorial debut. But wherever he goes, he’s also still Captain America.

And guys, Chris Evans knows the entire plot of “Captain America 3.”

“It’s this giant web of plot, where everything is connected to everything else… that’s the beautiful thing,” Evans told MTV News, “and especially for the fanboys who understand these plotlines. With Cap 3, we’re going to continue this excitement.”

Well, Chris, those fanboys, us included, have a bunch of theories about the sequel, mainly that Cap will split from the Avengers and lead a new group of heroes.

“What do I think about this, what can I say about this?” Evans wondered aloud. “You wanna give something!”

Come on, Chris. You’re almost there!

“Marvel doesn’t disappoint,” Evans finally said, after much inner conflict. “Whatever you’re hoping for, you’re probably going to get.”

Smooth, Evans. Very smooth.

Another rumor is that Cap might hand off the shield to one of the other characters, though Evans was not happy with that one.

“Who’s handing off the shield? Don’t take my job from me prematurely dude,” Evans said. “I’m sure it’ll happen at some point, all good things have to come to an end. But I’m really happy playing the character.”

We’re happy, too. “Captain America 3″ opens in 2016.

Here’s How Chris Evans Went From ‘Captain America’ To Rom-Com Director

by 1 min ago

With Reporting By Josh Horowitz

Chris Evans’ “Before We Go,” which premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, marks a big departure for the superstar. Not only is the romantic comedy a far cry from his superheroics as Captain America, it also marks his first time behind the camera as a director.

Still, that doesn’t mean that the two movies are completely unrelated. In fact, Evans says without Cap, he might not have been able to direct in the first place.

“The fact is, doing these Marvel movies gives a certain amount of international notoriety and awareness,” Evans said. “And that awareness is what affords you the opportunity to greenlight a movie. If you can greenlight a movie by itself and get it on its feet, why not try to direct?”

But the actor had to make a huge transition, considering he never had much experience. Luckily, being on set as Cap helped with that too.

“I’ve wanted to direct for years, but I never went to film school, and I have no right to be directing,” Evans said. “It was very lucky that this Marvel universe has given me such an opportunity to take that chance and let other people, producers take a risk on me.”

And just who did Evans learn from on set?

“It’s awful to say, but I feel like you learn more from the bad directors than you do from the good,” Evans said. “I love the directors that know what they want… when a director knows what they ...

DiCaprio, De Niro, Pitt, And Scorsese Finally Team Up… Kind Of

by 22 mins ago

The dreams of film buffs everywhere are finally coming true… kind of.

Martin Scorsese is directing a casino-themed film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Brad Pitt, and written by “Boardwalk Empire” showrunner and “Wolf of Wall Street” writer Terence Winter. It’s an incredible cast and sounds like Scorsese’s answer to “Ocean’s Eleven,” or a long-awaited sequel to his own “Casino.”

The only problem for the casual moviegoer? It’s not exactly a “movie” in the traditional sense.

Yup, turns out it’s actually a short film for a new movie-themed casino in Macau, Deadline reports, and is essentially just a long advertisement for Melco-Crown Entertainment (MCE), the company that’s opening the casino.

De Niro and DiCaprio are Scorsese’s two favorite actors, and they were originally slated to finally work together in “The Departed,” until De Niro had to drop out of his role as Captain Queenan and was replaced by Martin Sheen.

So no, unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a little longer to actually see the whole gang together on the big screen, though we’re sure the Internet will find a way to show you what we’re calling The Greatest Short Film Ever Made on your computer screen.

We can only hope working together now makes them even hungrier to work on a feature-length film in the future, cause we gotta see that, guys.

France has been invaded… by Star Wars LEGOs

But you don’t have to love LEGOs or “Star Wars” to appreciate these incredible pictures, by photographer Benoit Lapray as part of a project by LEGO France.

RELATED: LEGOs Recreating ‘Star Wars’ Are Better Than The Real Thing

The photographs are part of a series called “Toy Invasion,” where Lapray shows the Empire taking over a district in Lyon, France.

You can see stormtroopers with speeder bikes hovering over the water, stormtroopers shopping in a mall (with Boba Fett, of course), the Emperor commanding his forces from the roof of a building, and coolest of all, a shot-down Millennium Falcon in the water while Luke, Han and Leia try to escape.

You can check out the full photo set here, and you’ll probably be just a bit upset the Empire hasn’t actually invaded earth yet.
