Katy Perry Wins Everything: President Obama Just Called Her ‘One Of My Favorite People’

by 28 mins ago

Well, as if it wasn’t already established enough, Katy Perry is absolutely, 100 percent cooler than you.

Unless, that is, you’ve had the president of the United States call you one of his “favorite people.”

That’s what happened on Thursday night (July 31), when the “Dark Horse” singer did as one does on a Thursday night and performed at the White House. She took time off of her busy Prismatic Tour schedule appear at a dinner celebrating 46th anniversary of the Special Olympics.

“We have just one of my favorite people performing tonight — Katy Perry,” Obama told the crowd. “I love Katy Perry. We are so grateful to her.”

He added that — despite the fact that she’s pretty conservative — he also adores her mother. After meeting Mrs. Perry, he said, “now i know why [Katy's] such a wonderful person.”

OK, Barack. We get it. Now it’s just getting annoying.

This isn’t the first time Katy’s performed for Obama. Back in 2012, she dressed up to a Las Vegas rally as a human ballot to support his re-election campaign.

A Faith-Based Romantic Drama Wants To Take Down ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’

by 11 mins ago

There’s a faith-based film about “old-fashioned courtship” hitting theaters on the exact same day as the sinful, S&M-filled adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

And if you thought that was some sort of divine coincidence, you’d be wrong.

Freestyle Releasing — the studio behind the equally wholesome “God’s Not Dead” — is rather openly marketing “Old Fashioned” as the anti- “Fifty Shades of Grey,” or — as it words it on its website — the David to “Fifty Shades’” Goliath.

The film, whose tagline promises that “Chivalry is making a comeback,” was written and directed Rik Swartzwelder, who also stars in the film as a former frat boy who falls for a “free spirited woman” played by Elizabeth Ann Roberts. According the the film’s synopsis, together they attempt “the impossible: an ‘old-fashioned’ courtship in contemporary America.”

Translation: no sex. Not even a little bit. None.

Why, you ask? Well, according to Swartzwelder, “Old Fashioned” is about upholding a “high standard in relationships.”

“I wanted to tell a love story that takes the idea of Godly romance seriously,” he said. “A story that, without apology, explores the possibility of a higher standard in relationships; yet, is also fully aware of just how fragile we all are and doesn’t seek to heap guilt upon those of us that have made mistakes.”

“Old Fashioned” hits theaters on Valentine’s Day 2015. Choose your side.

Kristen Bell As Minimum-Wage Mary Poppins Is Super Cal-Amazing

by 34 mins ago

Mary Poppins can do near anything: pack an entire kitchen in her purse, fly around on an umbrella and, somehow, make this outfit look like a good idea. But there’s one thing she can’t do: Survive on the paltry $7.25 minimum wage in 2014.

That’s what the charmingly progressive Kristen Bell is here to remind us in her equally charming and progressive “Mary Poppin Quits” sketch on Funny or Die.

It’s been five long years since the federal minimum wage was last raised, so the “Veronica Mars” star joined lawmakers and citizens everywhere in a campaign to change that. Her method is, of course, a bit more engaging.

And can we take a moment to acknowledge that Kristen’s got a serious set of pipes?

So, Jack White Covered Lorde’s ‘Royals’…

by 13 mins ago

It’s gotten a heartfelt treatment courtesy of Selena Gomez, an acoustic-guitar-and-harmonica cover by Bruce Springsteen, and now, Jack White’s putting his own stamp on Lorde’s ever ubiquitous “Royals.”

White — who most recently made headlines for his vicious feud with the Black Keys — covered the New Zealand singer’s hit during a show in Milwaukee on Monday night. And while the only footage available is a brief Instagram video from someone in the audience, you can still hear the strange, strange magic of it all.

Robyn And Royksopp’s ‘Do It Again’ Video Will Make You Want To Start A Riot

by 21 mins ago

Robyn and Royksopp’s buoyant “Do It Again” may be the perfect track for a carefree night out, but the video… well, it’s a little heavier than that.

A theatrical six minutes long, the Martin de Thurah-directed visual is the story of a rebellion — a story of defiance meant to inspire you to do more than dance. But despite the weight of it all, there’s still sex, there’s still romance, and there’s still plenty of dancing. This is still Robyn, after all.

Speaking with Dazed Digital, who premiered the clip on Monday (July 21), de Thurah said the clip is meant to capture the pursuit of something unattainable.

“The stories we worked on and the world we created was much more interesting and captivating than just to focus on (the artists’) performance,” he said. “I worked with the idea of ‘what is our heart’s desire?’ – and I realised that no one in the world truly gets to live out their passions. We are all under some construct, whether you’re an atheist living in Denmark or a gay person in Russia.”

“Do It Again” is the title track off Robyn and Royksopp’s joint project, for which they’re currently on the road.

See Maroon 5′s Glowing Cover Art For V

by 1 min ago

Apart from the fact that it’s “very much all over the place,” Maroon 5 haven’t given us too much information surrounding their upcoming album, V. But on Monday (July 21) — perhaps in celebration of frontman Adam Levine’s weekend wedding — the band has released the official album artwork and track list for the September 2 project.

The cover for the album — which welcomes back original keyboardist Jesse Carmichael into the fold after a two-year break — is relatively simple, featuring the letter neon V illuminating over a desert background.

“I think that’s kind of the idea behind the album. It’s our fifth record. [Five] is literally part of our name,” Levine told us earlier this year of the album. “We thought we’d get back to certain elements that we’d been missing out on for a while with our original sound, but also bridge the gap with the new stuff that we’ve been doing. I think it’s an all-encompassing kind of record.”

V track list:

» “Maps”

» “Animals”

» “It Was Always You”

» “Unkiss Me”

» “Sugar”

» “Leaving California”

» “In Your Pocket”

» “New Love”

» “Coming Back For You”

» “Feelings”

» “My Heart Is Open” feat. Gwen Stefani

Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ Is Even More Badass As A Monologue

by 45 mins ago

Despite its extravagant production and the video’s flashy dance sequences, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” is a kiss-off with teeth. And when you take out all that glitz, it’s downright seething with attitude.

In her latest installment of Beyoncelogues, actress Nina Millin takes the I Am… Sasha Fierce favorite and turns it into a smoldering monologue. So in case the original is to peppy for sending to your ex, this version is perfect.

Selena Gomez’s ‘Pray For Gaza’ Instagram Sparks International Fan Debate

by 11 mins ago

Selena Gomez has come under fire after she posted an Instagram message on Friday (July 18) that read “It’s About Humanity: Pray for Gaza,” with many of her fans vowing to unfollow her in protest.

The “Come & Get It” singer posted a message urging her followers to “pray for those families and babies today,” seemingly referring to the casualties of Israel’s ground attack on the volatile Palestinian region of Gaza.

But while her intention may have been to encourage peace — writing “Please always remember what’s important in life. It’s not any of this. We are here to help, inspire and love.” — the post left Selenators divided.

Instagram user nicolenourian wrote, “Are you serious Selena?… posting this goes against all your Jewish fans. I am so insulted and disgusted right now.” Lily.Kh kept it short: “Unfollowed.”

Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu ordered land, air and sea attacks on Gaza this week in an effort to destroy underground tunnels that Hamas — the Islamic terrorist organization in Gaza — has been using to attack Israel. According to reports, nearly 300 Palestinians have been killed, including around 80 children.

In addition to the recent tunnel attacks by Hamas on Israel, the attacks come less than a week after three Israeli teenagers were killed — allegedly by Hamas militants — after they were kidnapped in the West Bank.

Earlier this week, Rihanna came under similar fire after tweeting “#FreePalestine,” a message that a source told TMZ “was never meant to be ...
