Ready Your Webcams, There’s Now Snapchat For Your Computer

by 10 mins ago

By this time, if you haven’t heard about Snapchat then you’ve been living under a rock. It’s the iPhone app that allows you to take and send a photo that “self-destruct” after an allotted number of seconds.

MTV definitely has one ¯_(ツ)_/¯:

If by some strange chance you don’t know what Snapchat is, it’s kind of like texting but with the kind of impermanence that we’ve come to crave in the digital age. Which leads to the latest development on the Snapchat front: there’s now Snapchat for your computer.

It’s called SnapMeNow and you can access it on your browser by clicking here.

Previously, this image messaging system was relegated to your phone, even knock-off Snapchat apps like Bolt (which was a lot more like Instagram) operated only on your phone. But all that SnapMeNow requires is a web app and your computer’s camera.

SnapMeNow allows you to send a hyperlink of the snap to up to 100 people and you can make it last from 1 to 10 seconds. But take all this info with some precaution, these sisters the reputation they got for being affiliated with the app, which is often used for sexting.

And, it seems that the pictures don’t always entirely disappear.

An interesting difference with SnapMeNow though is it doesn’t create an account for you, but simply uses a hyperlink to your image, which might lend a bit more anonymity.

With this in mind, happy snapping!

Here’s How Men React When Their Tinder Date Shows Up Fat

by 21 mins ago

Have you used Tinder yet to try to meet a date? Britney Spears is newly single and using it, so I just signed up for the app too. Maybe that’s why this story is resonating perhaps a bit more than it would’ve before, but the takeaway is something that we all could’ve guessed: men judge women more harshly by their physical appearance than vice versa.

If men think they are meeting a traditionally “fit” woman and a heavier one shows up, they will behave poorly. Like extremely poorly. Sure, this isn’t a shocking thing to assume but watching it unfold in real time in the social experiment that the guys at Simple Pickup concocted is still a little unreal.

They created a Tinder profile that had photos of the girl as she really is—thin and very fit—and then had her show up to the date in a fake fat suit.

Four out of five guys just up and left when they saw she was not a size 2—they didn’t even have the decency to stay around for a drink or try to get to know her. Some of them belittle her or blame her for making them “waste gas.” If there was ever a moment for using the acronym SMDH, this is it.

Watch their behavior below:

On the flipside, when women were met with the exact same challenge, their behavior is markedly different. All the women stay and some ...

You’ve Never Seen Britney Spears Like This

by 24 mins ago

Anyone who’s been following Britney Spears’ lingerie promo blitz through Europe this past week knows that the “Work Bitch” singer has really stepped up her styling game. But, does this mean our goofy Brit of yesteryear is gone for good? Is this the price of “artsy-fartsy”?

Something about this photo that Spears tweeted on Friday (September 26) tells me no. I mean, would an all-neutrals ice queen dare smother herself in shmata aboard her private jet — with Pippi Longstocking-esque pigtail braids, no less? I REST MY CASE.

Britney says this is the “THE intimate Britney Spears.” Into it.

Watch Cara Delevingne Bring Back ‘Cribs’ For This Tour Of Hogwarts

by 28 mins ago

Ever wanted a tour of Cara Delevingne’s apartment? Well, thanks to Vogue, you can get an idea for what that might be like. Sort of.

In this video tour, “flat” is really Hogwarts, or rather a Warner Bros. studio where the film was shot in London.

Starring one of our fave models of the moment, giving behind-the-scenes scoop on one of our fave movies of all-time, AND shot in the format of one of our fave throwback TV shows, “MTV Cribs,” we’re ultimately charmed by the Cara’s vid. Notable highlights include: “a couple of outfits” that she once wore in “previous lives of hers,” her assemblage of vintage Instagrams, and a collection of trophies that she thinks she’s going to win.

Now, we can’t stop thinking what it would really be like if Cara was at Hogwarts. Can you imagine? Would she hang out with Emma Watson? Would she play quidditch or just cheer on her house team? What house would she be sorted into? We like to think she’d be a Hufflepuff. In which case, 10 points to Hufflepuff for this tour, Ms. Delevingne.

This Was Such An Epic Win For Feminism (Thank You, Emma Watson!) — Can We Do This Every Week?

by 2 mins ago

Welcome to Friday! And welcome to feminism, if that’s new for you. Not that I’m the voice or authority on feminism, but, you know, I am a lady, and I’m a feminist because I believe women should have the same rights as men, should be paid the same as men, should have the right to not have our bodies legislated, should be free to live healthy, robust lives free of sexual discrimination and should be free to define ourselves and make basic choices on our own terms. Sounds pretty simple, except that it’s really not (as just about any woman can tell you.)

Also, I shaved my legs this morning and have about seven lipsticks in my bag at all times, so let’s cross those tired old stereotypes off the feminist misconceptions list right now.

I’m also a pop music and pop culture writer, so I’m happy to be bringing you both Friday (well, I wasn’t responsible for Friday) and feminism in a new little feature I’m calling Feminist Fridays, in which we look back at the week in feminism. Here are six feminist moments to celebrate and keep talking about.

1.) Emma Watson’s UN Speech

tumblr_ncbj8pGQ0o1qh9nffo1_500MTV

First of all, HEY GURL, Emma Watson. On Sunday, September 21, Emma Watson stood up in front of the entire UN (she’s a Goodwill Ambassador) and made an earnest, eloquent appeal to the international conclave and YouTube-viewing public to take responsibility to end gender-based discrimination and inequality. The actress also used the platform to ...

Jon Bellion’s Definition Is What You Get When You Mix Disney With Dilla

by 7 mins ago

Jon Bellion had two things on his mind when he was recording his latest album The Definition, which he released online for free on Tuesday.

“A lot of the album, The Definition was made from two things, Pixar movies and J. Dilla,” the singer, songwriter, producer, rapper and video director told MTV News on Thursday.

Bellion is currently overflowing with creativity, last year he wrote the chorus for Eminem and Rihanna’s number one single, “The Monster” and he also produced Jason Derulo‘s current single “Trumpets,” but it’s on The Definition where he is truly himself, blurring the lines between hip-hop, pop and soul.

Sometimes he’s singing (“Carry Your Throne”), sometimes he’s rapping (“Pre-Occupied”) and sometimes he breaks the boundaries and does both without you even noticing.

The truth is, on The Definition it’s impossible to find the seams in Bellion’s varied creativity, instead Jon soaks up inspiration and spits it back out in one steady stream. It all started with his binge-watching cartoon habits. “I’d watch Pixar movies for like six hours, back-to-back. I’d watch ‘Finding Nemo,’ twice a week, back-to-back-to-back, three times in a row,” he admitted.

Jon was so inspired by the Disney-backed animation house that he chose to animate his self-directed “Luxury” video as well. For him it’s the aesthetics and complex simplicity that films like “Finding Nemo” and “Cars” carry. Bellion admires how the story lines are sophisticated enough to hold the attention of adults and colorful and ...

A Brief History Of Kimye’s Matching Outfits

by 1 min ago

The #WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTCOUPLE have been living up to their reputation this Paris Fashion Week. From bringing North to her first fashion show (Balenciaga) to parading around the city in regal outfits, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been doing victory laps in the City of Light. But yesterday Kanye and Kim made their most PFW headlines yet when they sat front row and showed off their, um, matching cleavage (kleavage?). This isn’t the first time Kimye’s matching game has been on point, though. We rounded up a bunch of the times they’ve been sartorially in sync.

While on the way to pick up their outfits for their engagement dinner at Versailles, Kim and Kanye visited the Martin Maison Margiela showroom in opposite camel and black outfits.

Fittingly, their Margiela engagement dinner outfits were just as coordinated. Kim put her spin on Bianca Jagger’s all-white wedding suit and Kanye wore a similar spirited look. They not only matched their satin lapels, they also matched, for the first time, their cleavage.

They tested out coordinated suits back in 2013, in these monochrome Spy vs. Spy looks.

On their honeymoon, Kimye kept up their matching game and sipped tea from the fanciest couch I’ve ever seen on grass while wearing all-white outfits.

But Kim and Kanye do casual matching just as well. Their matching game is even strong when they’re ziplining! Just look at their matching black tanks, helmets, and sneakers. OK, ...

These Colgate University Students Were Sick Of Racism, So They Started A Protest

by 8 mins ago

By Danica Davidson

It may sound crazy, but even in 2014, bigotry is alive and well. After seeing racist posts on social media from fellow students and battling day-to-day biases, students at Colgate University decided they’d had enough.

Mimi Ballard, ’18, has experienced bigotry firsthand. She reported another student saying to her, “Oh, I didn’t know your people got in here.” She also recalls a group of white guys calling her names like Shoniqua and Shanene.

“I wasn’t going to spend the rest of my four years here being miserable and hating myself,” she said. “I wanted to do something about it. Personally, I plan on protesting until the administration hears us and there’s actual change. I’m going to stay here until I can be comfortable in this community.”

Fed-up students like Ballard created the Colgate Association of Critical Collegians (ACC), which swiftly launched its powerful #CanYouHearUsNow campaign. Hundreds of students are protesting, wanting to make their campus more all-embracing, open-minded and diversified.

“During the beginning of this year, there were a series of events that led me to a low point and I think I felt defeated,” explained Natasha Torres, ’15, who is one of the founders of ACC. “I can’t not do anything. It led to a group of us getting together about how we could address it. People think these [examples of bigotry] are isolated events, but they’re not. They happen every day.”

Bladimir Martinez, ’16, has definitely experienced bias. He described how he’ll be casually ...

Did ‘The Daily Show’ Really Call One Direction A Terrorist Group?

by 13 mins ago

“The Daily Show” mentioned One Direction in a joke this week, and now fans are up in arms.

For context, here’s the clip in question, along with one Directioner’s take on the satirical news show’s bit. As correspondent Jessica Williams lists off different terrorist groups, she slips in 1D.

Although Williams was trying to describe a ridiculous, imaginary terrorist supergroup in order to demonstrate how frequently new terrorist groups seem to be popping up in the news cycle lately, Directioners heard “terrorist,” “member” and “One Direction” and immediately assumed she was referring to Zayn Malik, the group’s lone Muslim, British Pakistani member.

The only problem with this mental leap is that I doubt Williams could even differentiate the 1D lads by name. The humor and absurdity of the skit comes from throwing a harmless boy band like One Direction in with the likes of ISIS and Khorasan — not singling Zayn out as “a terrorist.” Trust me, I say this as a Directioner.

Directioners took to the Internet to let people know how mad they were.

They started the hashtag #TheDailyShowGoneTooFar.

Though, perhaps some Directioners went too far.
