John Green’s ‘Looking For Alaska’ Movie Finds New Life And An Exciting Writer

by 40 mins ago

“The Fault in Our Stars” turned John Green into YA royalty, and now the film adaptation has significantly raised his stock in Hollywood. The success of the “Fault in Our Stars” movie, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort has helped revitalize another project based on one of Green’s books.

“Looking for Alaska,” Green’s first book, had been optioned but got stuck in the development. Now Paramount has pumped life back into the project, with an exciting filmmaker attached.

According to a report from Deadline, Sarah Polley, the actress, writer and director responsible for movies like “Take This Waltz” and “Stories We Tell,” will adapt the story of 16-year-old Miles Halter and his adventures in an Alabama boarding school, based on the strength of a pitch she made to the studio.

Polley is only writing the script for “Looking for Alaska” at this point, and there’s expected to be a conversation about her potentially directing the adaptation down the road. Based on her recent output, I think there’s a strong chance that she ends up doing both.

Green himself dropped a coy sort of no-comment comment about the news on Twitter:

Another of Green’s books, “Paper Town,” is also in development for a film adaptation with “Fault” star Nat Wolff in the lead.

Sia’s New Song Proves That, Actually, ‘Big Girls Cry’

by 2 mins ago

Sorry, Fergie, but big girls DO cry.

That is, according to Sia’s new song “Big Girls Cry,” off her upcoming album 1000 Forms of Fear. The track, posted Wednesday (June 25), proves that even the most put-together ladies can break down once in a while.

“I don’t care if I don’t look beauty/ Big girls cry when their hearts are breaking,” she belts, singing about a tough girl who lives alone. After bottling up her emotions, she lets go.

The singer/songwriter is set to perform her song “Chandelier” backed by the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus at Logo’s Trailblazers on Thursday at 9 p.m. on LOGO.

Sia’s “Big Girls Cry” follows “Chandelier” and “Eye of the Needle” from her new LP, out July 8.

Ben Affleck Debuts Beefcake Batman Body In ‘Project Greenlight’ Promo

by 14 mins ago

It’s great that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are executive producing the HBO show “Project Greenlight” again. Really, it is. The series is a wonderful showcase for first-time filmmakers, and it gives viewers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the film-making process from start to finish.

But if you check out this promo for the upcoming season, we think you’ll understand why “Greenlight” was the last thing on our minds while Affleck and Damon were speaking — because Affleck is jacked.

We’re not exactly sure if he has a beef with Christian Bale, but he’s definitely making sure that his Batman, the Batman from the upcoming 2016 film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” is the beefiest Batman of them all. So beefy, in fact, that Jason Bourne looks like pre-Captain America transformation Steve Rogers in comparison.

Sorry, Superman — our money is officially on the other guy.

A real go-getter. Follow Shaunna on Twitter @ShaunnaLMurphy.

Why Michael Jackson Is Still The King Of Pop

by 40 mins ago

In 2009, Michael Jackson was in the middle of rehearsing for a string of shows at London’s O2 Arena. But on June 25, the King of Pop died of cardiac arrest due to a doctor-assisted drug overdose The concerts were intended to be his last live performances — 50 in total — a big bang before retirement.

But five years later, we didn’t need that big bang. We have the entirety of MJ’s career, which was an impressive spectacle in itself. Here are a few reasons why Michael Jackson will always be the King of Pop to us:

He Was A Star From The Beginning
At 6 years old, Michael made it big with his brothers in the Jackson 5. And then he gave us 44 more years of music.

His Music Videos? Legendary.
Find someone who doesn’t know “Thriller.” I dare you. The 13-minute video set precedents for music filmmaking and was MTV’s first world premiere.

His Over-The-Top Fashion
MJ was an icon when it came to style. The one-handed glove, the hat, the socks — he had a look that was all his own. He was also known for flaunting some special jackets.

The MOONWALK
Not only was he a master at pop music, he was a master at pop dance! Seeing him groove in concert was even more mindblowing than seeing him on TV. And he knew all the secrets of putting on a show, even putting white tape ...

Watch All 141 Transformations From The ‘Transformers’ Movies

by 5 mins ago

The “Transformers” trilogy does not skimp on what its title promises: transformations, and lots of them. They range from really, really small (a Decepticon turning into a stereo), to really, really big (the mammoth truck monster from “Transformers 2″), and really, really weird (a girl who turns into a robot while making out with Shia Labeouf).

All told, we counted 141 (!) transformations in the three movies, and, to get ready for “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” compiled every single one of them into an epic supercut.

But just in case that’s too much for you, here are the 11 best transformations from the movies, in GIFs!

11. Megatron’s Awesome Introduction (“Transformers”)

Megatron

Megatron breaks into the movies in a big way, going from jet fighter to his colossal self on a dam while Starscream transforms in the background.

10. The Robot With No Name (“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”)

Desert

The Clint Eastwood of Transformers. Why does he have a cape? Why do you care? It looks awesome.

9. Mecha-Optimus Prime (“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”)

Mecha_Prime

Because Optimus wasn’t cool enough, they decided to give him a ton more armor and made him fly. Now he’s cool enough.

8. The Pink Transformer Decepticon (“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”)

Pink

It’s every little girl’s birthday wish to have a hideous bird-robot which can transform into a little pink Autobot.

7. The Mountain Dew Transformer (“Transformers”)

Sure it’s shameless product placement, but it shows that the level of detail on Bay’s transformations is stunning. Plus, ...

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Will Be One Long Chase Sequence

by 3 mins ago

For years, people have been eagerly awaiting the return of the “Mad Max” franchise, especially with Tom Hardy set to make his debut as the leading man in a summer tent pole, but it has taken years for director George Miller to put the finishing touches on the apocalyptic action flick.

With a little less than a year to go until “Mad Max: Fury Road” storms into theaters, Entertainment Weekly has a new official look at Hardy and his dangerous co-star Charlize Theron, complete with mechanical arm.

The magazine also spoke with Miller for the cover reveal, and he shared his original intent for the movie, which he thought up over a decade ago. “I wanted to tell a linear story — a chase that starts as the movie begins and continues for 110 minutes,” Miller said. “In this crucible of very intense action, the characters are revealed.”

The director also explained that the movie, which has reportedly tested very well in early screenings, is light on special effects and dialogue, and I can’t decide which excites me more.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” hits theaters on May 15, 2015.

These ‘Rejected Princesses’ Totally Deserve Their Own Movies

by 3 mins ago

Have too many animated fairytale films about imprisoned princesses, distressed damsels, and heartsick mermaids left you feeling disgruntled? Are you tired of whimsical singing animals, happy endings, and love that conquers all? Have you had it up to here with doe-eyed, wasp-waisted women starring in tame, toothless, bowdlerized versions of stories that should have been wildly exciting?

Then Jason Porath’s Rejected Princesses are the fairytale heroines you’ve been waiting for.

Porath, a former effects animator from Dreamworks, has turned his artistic talents to some of history’s more interesting women, in a new illustrated series called Rejected Princesses. Each installment depicts a famous historical or mythical woman in the guise of a classic Disney princess, with a focus exclusively on ladies who are “too awesome, offbeat, or awful” to ever merit their own major motion picture or line of brightly-colored tie-in merchandise.

Which is understandable, at least in certain cases (we’re looking at you, Lolita.) But we would also totally watch a movie about Rejected Princesses like…

Penta

Jason Porath, RejectedPrincesses.com

The saintly princesses of the fairytale canon have nothing on the fictional Penta, who chopped off her own hands in order to make her brother, the King, stop lusting after her. (We’re guessing he must have had a manicure fetish.) It worked, in that instead of marrying his sister, the King opted to try and murder her — kicking off a long, weird tale of woe that would make for a helluva movie.

Miranda Lambert And Carrie Underwood Get Criminal In The ‘Somethin’ Bad’ Video

by 3 mins ago

The brand-new video for “Somethin’ Bad” suggests that Miranda Lambert and her hurricane of a new album, Platinum — her highest-selling album to date — aren’t even close to finished with us. While she’s teamed up with plenty of other superstars on the record, “Somethin’ Bad,” her huge girl power duet with Carrie Underwood, has been the album’s stand-out moment.

The pair recently performed “Somethin’ Bad” live at the Billboard Music Awards and at the CMT Awards, literally setting the stage ablaze and keeping those hair fans working overtime, given fans just a glimpse at the felonious acts to come in the video.

In the “Somethin’ Bad” video — styled like a trailer for a huge summer heist blockbuster à la “Ocean’s Eleven” — the two country bombshells take us into an alternate world where they tear up the town as bank-robbing, motorcycle-riding rebels. Together, they don who-me? innocent disguises to infiltrate a bank vault and hustle their way into a gambling ring before absconding with the cash on some seriously tricked-out hogs.

They’re the kinds of roles are usually reserved for men, but Carrie and Miranda pull it off on their own, And with Carrie as Miranda’s side kick, those mug shots just got even more platinum. Usually the “Good Girl,” Carrie enters the danger zone — which involves high-speed chases and more hair-flipping. It’s ballsy, funny, and cinematic enough to justify giving these two their own shot at a bad-ass buddy comedy, complete with platinum mug shots.

Mac Miller Is Swimming With The Sharks In The ‘Most Dope’ Season 2 Trailer

by 4 mins ago

Mac is back!

He may be releasing music left and right, but this summer, Watching Movies With The Sound Off rapper Mac Miller is stepping out of the studio and back onto the small screen for the return of “Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family.”

Season 2 kicks off with a one hour block of back-to-back episodes, and judging by the trailer, below, it’ll be even more dope than last season. From hitting the stage on his European tour with Lil Wayne to swimming with sharks, Miller’s kickin’ up the thrill level a couple of notches this year.

“Ask everybody their fears, because we’re going to tackle them,” Mac says in the clip. “Fear Factor” and a reality show all rolled into one? We’re liking the sound of this!

But this season isn’t just for adrenaline junkies. The Pittsburgh native also shares some more tender moments — like when he finally finds the (puppy) love of his life…and then proceeds to dangle him from a balcony. As the saying goes, balance is the key to life. Literally.

Check out the madness for yourselves in this sneak peek, and trust us, you won’t want to miss the premiere of “Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family” July 23 at 11/10c on MTV2.
