Here Are The 9 Most Vital Fannypacks At Hangout Fest

by 05/17/14

Here’s a conundrum: When you hit up a fest where tons of clothing is seriously optional (it’s hot out here, y’all), where do you put your keys, wallet, cellphone, etc? Time to flashback to the ’80s, folks.

I have one (slightly silly) word for you: fannypack. Yup, those once-ubitqious ’80s accessories are back — at least here in Gulf Shores, Alabama, at the 2014 Hangout Fest.

MTV hit up the festival grounds looking for the best of the best when it comes to bum bags. Check ‘em out (in GIFs!) below:

Miley Cyrus Is Still Heartbroken Over The Loss Of Her Dog Floyd

by 05/17/14

We’re not trying to make this a #SadSaturday, but it’s worth sharing Miley Cyrus’ poignant Twitter post from earlier today. As you may recall, Cyrus lost her beloved puppy Floyd in April, and it’s clearly not the kind of pain that disappears just by wishing it away.

“How many times have you laid in bed and cried when the sun is out shining… But CHOOSE to lay in bed and indulge yourself in sadness,” she wrote.

The pop star is apparently feeling remorse for the loss of her pup (though we have to say, Miley, this was NOT YOUR FAULT). “A mother’s greatest responsibility is to keep their baby from anyone hurting them physically or emotionally,” she shared. “I was Floyd’s mommy. I don’t know when the regret and guilt will fade.”

Miley ended the post by revealing how she’s spending the day. “I am being helplessly human & I am OK with that.” So are we, Miley, so are we.

Deryck Whibley: ‘If I Have One Drink…. I Will Die’

by 05/17/14

Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley revealed he was hospitalized for a month due to alcoholism in a post he shared on his website on Friday, titled “Rock Bottom.”

“The reason I got so sick is from all the hard boozing I’ve been doing over the years,” he wrote. “It finally caught up to me.”

Whibley, formerly married to Avril Lavigne, wrote that he was admitted to the hospital after collapsing and being found unconscious by his fiance. “My liver and kidneys collapsed on me. Needless to say it scared me straight,” Whibley confessed. “I finally realized I can’t drink anymore. If I have one drink, the doc’s say I will die.”

It was an apparent wake-up call for Whibley, who also revealed the experience has inspired him to get back to music. Sum 41′s latest album, Screaming Bloody Murder, was released in 2011. “I already have a few song ideas for new songs. Soon it will be time to start making a new album and getting back to touring again.”

He also shared a bit of hard-learned wisdom with his fans: “I’m not preaching or anything but just always drink responsibly.”

We hope the best for Deryck in his recovery.

Chance The Rapper Cancels Hangout Festival Performance

by 05/17/14

Chance the Rapper has been dealing with some health issues that caused him to miss a big Coachella show last month, and it looks like things aren’t back on track just yet. The Chicago rapper was forced to cancel his at the 2014 Hangout Music Festival on short notice this weekend.

Chance was scheduled to perform during a Saturday night (May 17) slot in Gulf Shores, Alabama, but he was forced to pull out last minute, due to illness. His set will be replaced with a performance from Moon Taxi, who sent their well-wishes on Twitter, and got a retweet from Chance.

There have been no details on his condition, but last month he was hospitalized after “running a 104 degree fever and could not speak due to the inflammation of his throat,” according to his management.

Listen Up You Bedwetters: Diarrhea Planet Want You To Rock Harder

by 05/17/14

So… I’m not just saying this because I’m a huge garage rock/punk fan, but Diarrhea Planet just basically won Hangout Fest 2014 thus far. Three words: “Crowdsurfing on donuts.” Need I say more?

Friday, we issued an unofficial challenge to the boys from Nashville to best Black Lips, their Southern garage rock counterparts, when it came to delivering a hot and spicy, crazy show in Alabama.

And, dudes, did they deliver. Not that the Black Lips were not amazing and wonderful and brimming with joyful menace — it’s just hard to beat inflatable donuts.

So how did a band of guys with the most uncomfortable-to-utter name in music manage to throw a serious gauntlet down in front of the rest of the fest participants?

After busting out blazing singles like “Separations” and “Babyhead,” they tossed a whole mess of Homer Simpson-esque inflatable donuts (read: pink and gnawed-on) into the crowd and urged the assemblage: “Let’s see some people crowd-surfing on donuts.”

The flower-crowned, tattoo’d, sunburned masses obliged, and soon the sea of flesh abutting the stage was transformed into a literal sea, replete with reclining fans floating by on a wave composed of hands and trust.

Just take a look at these snaps and try not to be jealous:

Yes

Oh, and the dudes also encouraged the denizens of the crowd to download Tinder and find some quick love (“We gotta turn this sh– into the Olympic Village!” they shouted. “You have three minutes to crowd-surf your way into a ...

As I Lay Dying’s Tim Lambesis Sentenced To Six Years For Murder Plot

by 05/17/14

As I Lay Dying singer Tim Lambesis was sentenced to six years in prison on Friday in Vista, California, for attempting to hire a hitman to murder his then estranged wife, Meggan Murphy. Lambesis was arrested last May. The “hitman” Lambesis approached for the plot to murder turned out to be an undercover police officer from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

During the sentencing hearing on Friday, Noisey reports that Lambesis addressed Murphy. “I do want to apologize, and I do feel a deep sense of remorse.” He added, “In the midst of all the heartache, you still find the strength to pray for me, and I’m thankful for that.”

“After our separation, I was only allowed to see the kids twice a week,” he told Alternative Press West Coast. “And it had to be somewhere Meggan could sit in the distance and literally watch me watch the kids.”

Lambesis also discussed preparing for prison. “I know what it’s like getting ready for a long tour. The problem is, this isn’t a long tour,” he said. “Career wise, and as a father, I don’t even want to depend on getting in a van or on a bus to make a living. I need to have a backup plan. It’s hard to prepare without knowing how long I’ll be inside.”

An upcoming not-for-profit documentary is also planned on Lambesis’ story, he told Associated Press.

It’s Official: Danity Kane Is Now A Trio

by 05/17/14

By Katie Calautti

It’s official: Aundrea Fimbres isn’t just missing from the cover art of Danity Kane’s new single “Lemonade,” she’s stepping out of the picture for good.

Just yesterday, MTV News confirmed that Fimbres recorded vocals for the track, but couldn’t get a straight answer regarding whether or not the foursome would soon be a threesome.

Fimbres put the rumors to rest last night during the kick-off of the group’s #DKNoFilterTour with some happy news: she’s pregnant and engaged! Clearly emotional as she addressed the roaring crowd at San Francisco’s The Fillmore, she said, “I’ve gotten to do some amazing things with Danity Kane, but it’s time for me to start the next chapter in my life.” She went on to thank fans and introduce her bandmates, saying, “They are going to kill it for you while I go have some babies!”

No word yet on whether or not she’ll be joining Danity Kane for any part of the #DKNoFilterTour tour, but Aubrey O’Day, Dawn Richard and Shannon Bex did the heavy lifting last night sans Fimbres, debuting two new songs live: “Rage” and “Rhythm of Love.”

Childish Gambino Finds A Lost Child, Delivers Most FOMO-Inducing Hangout Fest Set Yet

by 05/17/14

Oh, you wanna be Childish Gambino, do you? Well here’s what you have to do:

1.) Give the most inspired, electrifying, and explosive performance of Hangout Fest so far. (Sorry, folksy singer-songwriter types. But did you pull a crowd that looks like this?

gambino-crowd

2.) Start your set off stage.

childoffstage

3.) No, like WAY off stage. Preferably near a guy who looks like Kid Rock.

4.) Stay hydrated.

5.) Hire a highly skilled backing band that brings the funk and the R&B and feels like The Roots added a female keyboard player to their roster.
6.) Serve hyper-literate, sexual yet self-aware, neurotic, digitally obsessed philosophical Gambino realness on prime cuts from Camp and Because The Internet, like “Heartbeat,” “Pink Toes,” “Sweatpants,” and “Crawl.” Also, don’t hesitate to perform “Black Faces” IN ALABAMA. Also, don’t hesitate to sing just as well as you rap.
7.) Also? Turn way the f*ck up. Like the ENTIRE way up. Then stay that way.

8.) Stop your set to help find a lost child (this actually happened.)
9.) Dance like you just checked your bank account and it said you never have to check your bank account ever again.

10.) Bring out your brother Stephen, because family.
11.) Burn through this entire set list with the fiery intensity of an entire Independence Day’s worth of Roman candles.

Mockingjay on Vacay: The Hunger Games Cast Hits Cannes

by 05/17/14

By Katie Calautti

The Girl on Fire and Co. took a short break from filming “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” in Paris to hit the Cannes Film Festival today, posing their dapper selves on the swanky Majestic Barriere hotel’s red carpet.

Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claflin, Julianne Moore, Donald Sutherland and director Francis Lawrence decked themselves out in beachside-chic gear for the occasion. It’s a rough job, but someone has to do it. We’re admittedly a little bummed that Natalie Dormer isn’t among them – if only for a glimpse of the French sun glinting off her gloriously half-shaved head.

We’ll say this much: Moore looks a bit more relaxed in the seaside setting than she does in her first official The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 still. Check the prime shots from Cannes below!

L-R: Donald Sutherland, Francis Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence, Sam Claflin, Josh Hutcherson, Julianne Moore

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1″ hits theaters November 21.
