Madonna, Macklemore And Queen Latifah Stage 34 Weddings In One Night

It was a touching addition to the 2014 Grammy Awards: After winning four awards Sunday night (January 26), Macklemore & Ryan Lewis concluded their triumphant night with an energetic performance of "Same Love" as a reported 34 couples were married onstage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Released in 2012, "Same Love" garnered mainstream attention for its discussion of gay and lesbian rights. Just hours before the Grammys, the New York Times reported that several straight and same-sex couples would tie the knot during the performance, with rap veteran Queen Latifah officiating the nuptials, and Madonna joining Macklemore and Lewis. Noted New Orleans trumpeter Trombone Shorty also jumped onstage with the Seattle duo, who snagged Grammys for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance ("Thrift Shop"), Best Rap Album (The Heist) and Best New Artist.

The performance, which took place near the end of the show, was one of the more sentimental sets of the evening. "This song is a love song, not for some of us, but for all of us," Latifah said before introducing Macklemore and Lewis. From there, the rapper unveiled the gospel-infused track amid a church-inspired atmosphere.

Then, as Latifah announced the marriages, Madonna — clad in all white — joined her, Macklemore and Lewis as the newly married couples walked through the arena arm in arm. It was a touching cap on a tolerant track, but we can't help but ask: Is Queen Latifah really an ordained minister?

‘Sherlock’: Everything You Missed On ‘The Sign Of Three’

After "

Don't Send In The Clowns
If you've been wondering whether Lestrade solved any crimes at all in Sherlock's absence, the episode's opening montage is for you. In it, Lestrade is revealed to have spent the past two years in pursuit of the Waters family, a gang of masked bank robbers who, despite being repeatedly caught and prosecuted by Scotland Yard, have managed to walk free every. Single. Time. But this time — in a moment eerily reminiscent of the opening scene in "The Dark Knight" — the thieving clowns are about to get caught in the act, and it'll be vindication for Lestrade at last. Except that just as the bust is about to go down, the inspector gets a desperate text that sends him bolting for Baker Street. What horrific crisis could tear him away from the case of his career?

May The Best Man Win
Though Sherlock has been ever so helpful to the wedding planning process thanks to his unique skill set — which includes but is not limited to reading between the lines on the RSVPs, discerning which of Mary's male friends have designs on her, and folding napkins to resemble the Sydney Opera House — there's one responsibility that has him stumped. As Lestrade charges into the flat, guns blazing, closely followed by every police car in London, Sherlock looks up with despair from a book titled "How to Write an Unforgettable Best Man Speech" and says, "Do you have any funny stories about John?"

Staggering Genius

Sherlock has planned Watson's stag night down to the ...

Grammy Song Of The Year Was Written In 30 Minutes

"Thank you to everyone who has let the song explode 'cause it's been mental." With those brief words, Lorde accepted her award for "Royals" as Song of the Year at Sunday night's Grammy Awards.

Originally recorded with songwriter Joel Little, who was also invited up into the Grammy spotlight to receive the plaudits, the legend of "Royals" has it that Lorde herself penned the lyrics in less than half an hour and then Little teased it into a slinky, all-conquering pop masterpiece. "We made the song originally just to give away for free," was how Little put it humbly while onstage. From those whimsical beginnings, though — a quick sketch of an idea that was thrown out into the unruly cyber wilderness just to see what would happen — "Royals" bloomed into not just a phenomenon but a cherished sign of the times.

Buoyed by her playful lilt, which comes across like an antipodean Lily Allen, Lorde sing-skats her way through modern pop-culture references filtered through a rap lexicon; the production is stripped down as if intended to be a more melodic and radio-friendly version of a trap beat. (Naturally, the song has been appropriated as remix fodder by a litany of rappers, topped by the Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon and Rick Ross.)

What charms most about "Royals" is its endearingly youthful perspective. Those fabled 30 minutes of writing are like a teenager's tweets about the out-of-reach name-brand world around her. In some respects the song shares a bond with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' $50-for-a-T-shirt fulmination "Thrift Shop." (The artwork for the ...

How Taylor Swift’s Grammy Performance Helped Fans Forgive Her Exes

Taylor Swift staged a quiet revolution at Sunday night's Grammy Awards, inventing a new genre onstage: piano headbanger music.

Wearing a dramatic beaded dove-gray gown, complete with sequin detailing and a long train streaming out behind her, the "Red" songstress perched at the piano for what was billed as an "intimate performance" of her song "All Too Well."

Backed by a band and supporting vocalists, Swift played the ballad — which is rumored to be about her blink-and-you'll-miss-it-yeah-you-missed-it relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal — fairly straight, until the song's bridge, at which point she flipped out into a straight-up headbang.

Before the performance, fans wondered which song Swift would choose to perform. After all, fan favorite Ed Sheeran, who duetted with Swift on "Everything Has Changed" on the album, was in the house for the awards show, and "I Knew You Were Trouble" topped charts earlier this year.

However, when Swift set her mind to tickling the keys, fans exploded with appreciation on Twitter, wholeheartedly approving of the song choice. In fact, several even thanked Gyllenhaal for inspiring Swift.

For example, Molly Lambert was pretty sure that the performance was essentially a text message winky face translated into a vocal performance in front of millions.

User @HighFlyingSwift remembers the theft of a particular accessory all too well, but if that's what it takes to get a lil TaySway drama, then that's what it takes.

Louis Peitzman totally knows how TSweezy feels.

What did you think of Taylor Swift's Grammys performance? Are you mad at Jake Gyllenhaal?

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Address Grammy Hip-Hop Haters

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis hear the criticism, and to those who suggest that the Seattle duo don't belong in any of the 2014 Grammy hip-hop categories, they have a rebuttal.

"Of course we deserve to be in that category, no question," Ryan Lewis said defiantly to MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway and MTV2 "Girl Code" star Nicole Byer while he and rapping partner Macklemore walked the Grammy red carpet on Sunday night (January 26).

Earlier this week, an unnamed source told the AP that of the rap committee of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences looked to keep the duo out of the award ceremony's rap categories, arguing that their pop success was a strike against their hip-hop cred.

Despite the assertion that the duo didn't belong in the hip-hop field, Macklemore and Ryan beat out Jay Z, Drake, Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar for the hotly contested Best Rap Album award. "It is a beautiful time in hip-hop music where people are pushing the comfort zone of the listener, of the art. If you look at the list of the people that were nominated for Best Rap Album, everybody in their own way pushed people out of their comfort zone," Macklemore said.

>>Don't Miss Any Of Our Grammy Party Photos

"With that being said, I think that we gratefully, humbly are one of those five people," he continued. "We should be there. I came up on hip-hop music, this is the foundation, it's beats and rhymes, that's what it is first and foremost."

The group scored a ...

Katy Perry’s Grammy Performance Was Probably Inspired By These 4 Movies

Katy Perry went full "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" during her live performance of "Dark Horse" at Sunday night's Grammy Awards.

It's understandable why. After all, if you're going to have a song named "Dark Horse," there's bound to be some gothic imagery, an evil witch and a horse that's actually hiding Juicy J. Disney might've found its Evil Queen for a live version of their Disney classic, but what other movies might Katy Perry have taken inspiration from? We take some guesses:

"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers"
Those moving trees? People adorned in black? Those flames? 100 percent "Lord of the Rings."

"Silent Hill"
That final part where Katy Perry is surrounded by fire has "Silent Hill" written all over it. (Yes, we've already mentioned the flames but, whatever.) Or, you know, any movie that's inspired by the Salem Witch Trials.

"Maleficent"
It's not out yet, but maybe Katy Perry saw the preview and thought, "Wow. I need to be Maleficent."

"The Craft"
Katy Perry would've made a great Nancy. The attitude, the having people carry her — the world needs a "The Craft" remake now.

Carole King: 9 Facts You Need To Know After Her Grammy Performance

A cadre of stars — from Pink to Steven Tyler to Lady Gaga — gathered to honor Carole King Saturday night at MusiCares' annual gala.

Tonight (January 26), the acclaimed singer-songwriter takes the stage at the 56th Grammy Awards to perform with Sara Bareilles -- that platform becoming just one of many stages that King's songs have graced over the course of her career.

As she stands under the spotlight this Grammys — more than 40 years after she collected her first award — MTV News counts down nine need-to-know facts about the woman whose work is woven into the very "Tapestry" of music history:

She Was The First Woman To Win 'Song Of The Year'

There are a lot of ladies that could nab "Song Of The Year" tonight and effectively follow in King's footsteps; she was the first woman to score that award in 1972 for "You've Got A Friend," a jam that she performed with James Taylor (she also won basically all of the other awards that year).

If our psychic is right, Lorde will be the most recent woman to sit pretty on the throne.

She Has Written More Than 100 Pop Hits

She may not have lent her voice to all of them, but King has written or co-written more hits than we can count on our fingers and toes for the likes of Aretha Franklin ("(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman"), The Drifters ("Up On The Roof") and Herman's Hermits ("I'm Into Something Good").

She also wrote "The Loco-Motion," the bane ...

The ‘Girls’ Guide To Reacting To Death

Warning: Spoilers for the "Girls" episode "Deep Inside" are not-so-deep inside this article.

They say that nothing is certain except for death and taxes, but there's one more thing that should be added to that list: Hannah Horvath having inappropriate emotional reactions to things.

In the Jan. 26 episode of HBO's "Girls," "Deep Inside," Hannah hit another one of those growing-up milestones. She celebrated her 25th birthday in last week's episode, but this week, she looked death in the face. Or, like, at least stalked death's Instagram. David Pressler-Goings, the sasspants editor who freaked out on Hannah for stabbing herself in the ear with a Q-tip and also gave her a publishing deal, died.

Like Dumbledore, but more ambiguouslygay, David was a mentor to Hannah, but he died before he was able to pass on all of his wisdom. (Yes, wizardry was just compared to e-book publishing. Handle it.)

Remember that part about Hannah reacting inappropriately? Yep, turns out that she sucks in the face of tragedy too. The whole episode dealt with how garbage she is with human emotions. This week, we inventoried everyone's immediate reaction to being told that David (or, in Ray's case, "a good friend of mine") had died. And no, don't expect Caroline's weird dead turtle funeral romp to make the list — odds are, she would have done that anyway, because, Tuesday.

» Receptionist: "OK."

» Random editor: "Oh my God."

» Hannah: [Silence.] (Later: "No one explains what's happening and then they say he's dead.")

» Jessa: "Yeah, Hannah. It's something that happens. It's like jury duty or floods. ...

Poll: Which Witch Ruled The Grammys: Katy Perry, Madonna Or Lorde?

Something magical was in the air at the Grammy Awards this year. It seems that three of pop's leading ladies got the memo that witches are just so hot right now. That's right:

Madonna, Katy Perry and Lorde all seemed to have recently watched — or the current season of — and decided to use that programming as inspiration for this year's show.

Madonna kicked off the trend on the red carpet, walking into the show looking like pop music's ultimate supreme. In her wide-brimmed hat and tailored black suit, the Material Girl (who later performed with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis) looked like the leader of the pop coven. Her style quickly had fans commenting that she appeared to be auditioning to replace Jessica Lange on the witchy FX anthology series.

Not long after Madge's bewitching red carpet appearance, Lorde performed her breakthrough single, "Royals." Donning her hair long and straight with some black lipstick, the 17-year-old Grammy nominee put a spell over the audience with her twitchy dance moves and gothic imagery, including a big angel statue.

COVERGIRL Katy had a total #covermoment with her spooky performance. Taking to the stage for "Dark Horse," the singer donned a flowing dress (with an LED bra) and was surrounded by fire and gothic trees. Did we mention, she also grinded up on a broomstick pole? It doesn't get much witchier than that now, does it?

Katy Perry Promised A Witchy Grammy Performance.

So, which pop star outdid herself in the witch department? Fans were ...
