‘Gone Girl’ Disappears With $38 Million And The Top Box Office Spot

by 7 mins ago

Well, not that this news is likely to be a surprise to anyone, but: “Gone Girl” has disappeared (in plain sight!) with all of our movie-going dollars this weekend, taking the top spot at the box office.

The impressive little thriller number from David Fincher and novelist Gillian Flynn did gangbusters with pretty much everyone over the age of 25 (in fact, the mid-twenties-and-beyond set made up 75% of the audience: not something a lot of films do anymore, to be frank) and brought in bountiful accolades for its stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, and Carrie Coon.

Perhaps more surprising, though, was second place — and namely how “Gone Girl” was not the landslide-y winner of the weekend. That’s right, the number two film, horror film/”The Conjuring” prequel, “Annabelle” came in second, but just barely: it took home $37.2 million dollars compared to the $38 million of “Gone Girl.” Turns out this world loves two things: Fincher thrillers and creepy dolls.

But it’s also a big ol’ celebration for Fincher, who can officially name the film his biggest-debut-getting film of all: easily beating out 2002′s “Panic Room,” which opened with $30 million. Overall, both of these films out-performed people’s expectations, which is always a thing Hollywood executive-types like to hear. Basically, if you were an adult who enjoyed movies, you went to see some cinema ...

Apparently, Cats Don’t Actually Like It When You Pet Them

by 20 mins ago

You may want to back away – slowly – from your mid-catastrophe kitty. Turns out, a new poll reveals you’re doing it all wrong when it comes to scratching away feline stress.

The UK’s leading feline welfare charity, Cat’s Protection, recently released the results of a survey that revealed cat owners don’t understand the deepest needs of their pets.

“Being held or stroked for too long can be very stressful for some cats,” said Cat’s Protection’s Behaviour Manager Nicky Trevorrow. “Space and peace is often what they need – they’re not small furry humans, so what would comfort us won’t necessarily comfort them.”

As for the argument that our befuzzed friends aren’t simply miniature people masquerading in cat suits, we’d like to present evidence in the form of Taylor Swift‘s kitty Meredith:

#NAILEDIT

Regardless of our totally air-tight defense, it seems more than half of the cat owners questioned said they calm their stressed out feline with a snuggle or hug – which is apparently the exact opposite of what they should do.

We’re thinking it’s only a matter of time before our feline overlords team up with the world’s particularly ornery swan population to form a united front of hands-offery. We’ll just be waaaay over there, deciphering the morse code of our tabby’s purrs.

Childish Gambino Released Even More New Music—Stream KAUAI Now

by 3 mins ago

By Andres Tardio

Childish Gambino is giving us even more new music! After releasing his dream-inspired STN MTN mixtape on Thursday (October 2), ‘Bino released its follow-up, the KAUAI EP, yesterday (October 4). Perhaps KAUAI wouldn’t have been out so soon if it wasn’t leaked, but Gambino didn’t seem too upset by it on Twitter.

Gambino’s 7-track project includes appearances from Jaden Smith, billed as “The Boy,” who drops spoken word on cuts like “Pop Thieves (Make It Feel Good)” and “Late Night In Kauai.” Check those tracks for Smith lines about how “magic happened” in a tent, but “nothing was born, luckily.”

Gambino, who is also joined on KAUAI by Christian Rich and Steve G. Lover, uses this EP to unleash “V.3005 – Beach Picnic Version,” a melodic, rap-less version of his “3005” hit single, which appeared on the rapper’s 2013 album, Because The Internet.

Gambino recently said that his STN MTN mixtape—which was heavily inspired by his native Stone Mountain, Georgia—leads into this EP as he wakes up from a dream in Kauai.

By blending beach sounds into this project, ‘Bino helps us travel with him from Georgia to Hawaii on a musical journey that ranges from a hard hitting Gangsta Grillz mixtape to a more mellow EP on the sands of Kauai.

You can stream Gambino’s KAUAI EP below.

Michael Phelps Checks Himself Into Rehab After Second DUI

by 14 mins ago

We’re rooting for you, Michael!

After a tumultuous week that saw the best Olympian of all time arrested for his second charge of D.U.I., Michael Phelps took to his public Facebook page and his twitter to announce that he will enter a program to “provide the help I need to better understand myself.”

Phelps was arrested early on Tuesday morning (September 30) after driving 84mph in a 45mph zone, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

According to a report from NBC taken from the MTA, “He “appeared to be under the influence,” and was unable to perform standard field sobriety tests.” Phelps had a blood alcohol level of .14%, well above the Maryland legal limit of .08%.

In 2004, Phelps was sentenced to 18 months of probation stemming from a guilty plea over a drunk driving charge after the 2004 Athens Olympics.

The road to recovery is an ongoing process and one that can’t be solved quickly. Phelps was able to recover from his first charge and we hope he can do it again. Get better, Michael!

Of Course North West Has Customized Kim And Kanye Dolls

by 1 min ago

Kanye and Kim Kardashian are doing their part to maintain their status as #WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTCOUPLE, but in the meantime, their daughter North West is quickly becoming the world’s most talked about baby.

From getting her own front row seat during Paris Fashion Week, to her recent CR Fashion Book spread, North has been doing a lot of grown up stuff lately.

But don’t worry, she’s still a baby and therefore, still plays with dolls. But of course, since it is Nori we’re talking about here, she plays with dolls made to look like her own parents. Yup, Nori has custom Kimye dolls and they’re freakin’ adorable.

The Brooklyn-based company Celine Dolls has apparently made miniature versions of the entire family, complete with their IRL accessories.

Kim’s sister Khloe first posted the Instagram picture of the cloth dolls a few days ago:

And then the company Instagrammed the dolls too, in response to what must have been a slew of inquiry!

The company captioned the picture with more information: “Since @khloekardashian ‘s post, people have asked a few things: Mini Kanye is wearing a faux mink vest and slightly shiny distressed faux leather pants. And yes, Mini Kim has hips!”

And the Kanye doll even has his Red Octobers:

Icing on the cake? There’s also a doll of North herself:

Want to order your own custom dolls? Or maybe get your own mini Kim and Kanye? Go here to the doll maker’s website for more info! Honestly, I would love ...

The 26 Raciest Movie Promos Of All Time

by 26 mins ago

By Amanda Bell

Sex sells. A lot. And since Hollywood loves cash money, you better believe there are tons of movies coming out these days with sweet whoopee-makin’ as an essential ingredient to the mix, with a taste of that cinematic spice sprinkled right there into their promo packages. Talk about your potent media relations (badum-tshhhh) …

Take “Fifty Shades of Grey,” for example. Now here’s a film that’s poised to be pretty unapologetically provocative, and its latest pic plays right into that expectation.

Behold young Ana Steele (Dakota Johnson) with a Grey Industries pencil placed strategically upon her lip. It doesn’t take a media genius – or a super sexy bazillionaire business magnate for that matter – to read the subliminal message here. No need for all the whip-wielding and blindfolding business we saw in the trailer (OK, but yeah, that stuff too); this picture is plenty teaser enough. Well played.
When it comes to putting eyebrow-raising pictorials out there to get the job done, this so-called “mommy porn” adaptation is in pretty naughty good company. Let’s check out some of the other super suggestive movie images from Hollywood history, shall we?

26. “The Graduate” (1967)

MGM

This is pretty much the O.G. of suggestive cinematic promo pic fare. As any good cinephile knows, this is the iconic moment when Dustin Hoffman’s strapping young Ben Braddock discovers Anne Bancroft’s Mrs. Robinson is indeed, coo coo ca-choo, trying to seduce the lad. Here’s to you. ...

The Coast Guard Had To Rescue A Man Who Was Trying To Float To Bermuda In An Inflatable Bubble

by 26 mins ago

Poor ol’ Reza Baluchi: all he wanted to do was navigate the Caribbean in a giant inflatable bubble in the name of world peace. Instead, all he got was airlifted by the United States Coast Guard.

Unfortunately a self-made “zorb” (or hydro pod bubble, whatever you want to call it) several bottles of water, a couple protein bars, and a GPS system are not accomplish one’s goal of “running” from Florida to Bermuda — regardless of the noble intentions.

According to Baluchi’s website, the ambitiously-minded goal-setting ultra-marathon-runner — he’s already run across the U.S. twice and around its perimeter once — had set a goal of running across 165 nations to encourage world peace. This most recent endeavor was part of a five-year plan to run across the world—even across oceans.

His Facebook page cites Baluchi designing “a boat that will allow [him] to cross the ocean 100 percent man powered.” It went on to say that he would be “supported by a larger boat to assure his safety,” though it does not seem that such a boat was with Baluchi at the time of his rescue. He also had plans to cross “the ocean from Rio de Janeiro to South Africa which, he has scheduled to take 67 days.”

On Baluchi’s actual site is footage of his trials with the resulting zorb, crafted for the running machine to continue his running even on top of the water.

The Coast Guard was first made aware of the existence ...

Ciara Gave Birth? These Calvin Klein Underwear Pics Make That Hard To Believe

by 18 mins ago

Ciara once again rocks it like no one else can!

If you haven’t noticed, Cici has been making a major comeback to the public eye after a few months away due to the birth of her son, Future Zahir Wilburn. After a fruitful trip abroad for Paris Fashion Week—where she rocked the most covetable of sleek black pant suits—she has now taken to Instagram to flaunt her post-baby body.

“I feel so proud to say that 4 months after delivering a 9 lbs. 10 oz. baby, I can finally rock My Calvin’s!” she wrote on a post that instantly blew up. Sporting a simple, yet stunning pair of black panties, black bra, and black sweater, she lounged on a bed and showed off her inviable abs and long legs.

This shouldn’t be a surprise for longtime fans. Ciara is one of the best dancers in the music industry so bouncing back after a birth was probably easier than most folks. “After Delivering My Son I Feel Like There’s Nothing I Can’t Do. I Feel Like I Can Conquer The World.” she titled another post, this time wearing gray Calvin Klein underwear. A couple of slick 1-2 steps was probably all the effort she needed to drop the reported 60 pounds she gained during the pregnancy.

And it seems that her support of Calvin Klein runs through and ...

Watch Ben Affleck’s Passionate Defense Of Islam On Bill Maher’s Show

by 2 mins ago

On a show known for its heated debates, Friday night’s epic “Real Time With Bill Maher” showdown between guest Ben Affleck and host Bill Maher may go down as the fieriest in the HBO talk show’s history.

It all began when Affleck – who joined the four-person panel (along with journalist Nicholas Kristof, author Sam Harris and political analyst Michael Steele) to promote his newly released film “Gone Girl” – disagreed with Maher and Harris’ broad negative view of people practicing Islam.

“It’s gross – it’s racist,” said Affleck. After Harris explained that we need to criticize bad ideas, and called Islam “the motherload of bad ideas,” Affleck scoffed, “That’s an ugly thing to say.” “How about the more than a billion people who aren’t fanatical, who don’t punch women, who just want to go to school?” Affleck continued.

The debate just heated up from there, with Harris and Maher imploring that radical Islam doesn’t simply constitute “a few bad apples” – when Steele added that the voices in opposition aren’t being given the same platform as extremists, Maher fired back, “Because it’s the only religion that’s like the Mafia – that will f–king kill you if you say the wrong thing, draw the wrong picture or write the wrong book.”

This set Affleck off again – and, suffice it to say, we can understand why rumors of a career in politics have been swirling around the activist Hollywood A-lister for years.

‘Inherent Vice’ Just Got More Awesome: It Features An Unreleased Radiohead Song

by 21 mins ago

Press pause on your thousandth play of the insanely brilliant “Inherent Vice” trailer for a moment, because we have news that’ll delight you: according to Slate, the film features an unreleased song from Radiohead called “Spooks.”

The instrumental track was unveiled during a 2006 concert in Cophenhagen, and has promptly gone the way of the unrecorded track (the below YouTube video from the show, notwithstanding) – until now.

The song has a psychedelic west coast vibe that seems like a perfect fit for director Paul Thomas Anderson’s adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel. And the inclusion isn’t much of a stretch – “Inherent Vice” is scored by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood (who also collaborated with PTA on the scores of “There Will Be Blood” and “The Master”), so it’ll likely be an extension of Greenwood’s established acoustics.

Could this be cross-promotion for Radiohead’s upcoming album? Greenwood confirmed they’d be convening in the studio this fall, but the track listing and release schedule remain a mystery.

“Inherent Vice” hits theaters December 12.
