5 Things Sarah Silverman Learned On ‘Saturday Night Live’

by 2 mins ago

Sarah Silverman may have been hosting “SNL” for the first time this weekend, but it wasn’t actually her first time in Studio 8H.

20 years ago Silverman had a short-lived run on the series, and spent most of her screen time being a pretty, curious girl in the audience. In honor of her return to the hallowed halls of comedy, here are a few tokens of wisdom from the night’s sketches that Silverman could impart to her younger self.

1. Ask The Right Questions

Silverman’s monologue catered to her comedy style, where she improvises with an audience member by sitting on her lap, longing to return to the times we were “carried, bathed and cared for.” But back in the ’90s, when Silverman had a short stint as a writer and featured player on “SNL,” she spent most of her time doing some deep thinking. We see the flashback footage as Silverman is seated in the audience and asking questions like “Are you going to do any solo albums now that you’ve left Wilson Phillips?” “What did you feed the dinosaurs?” “What makes the human knee bend?” The answers are endless.

2. Give It Up To God

In light of legendary comedian Joan Rivers’ passing, Silverman doles out cracks to fellow icons at a roast in Heaven. Seated at the table are the likes of Richard Pryor, Steve Jobs, an unassuming Ben Franklin, Lucille Ball, and a Freddie Mercury that is so gay even his teeth aren’t straight. Is it just us or ...

The 19 Best Fashion Quotes From ‘The Devil Wears Prada’

by 11 mins ago

Ever heard of The Devil Wears Prada? You know, the little vehicle that starred Anne Hathaway as a fresh faced assistant at Runway (a thinly veiled alternate-universe version of Vogue) and Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly (as its even more thinly veiled version of Anna Wintour).

Unsurprisingly, the movie has some serious fashion bonafides, including a million dollar wardrobe packed to the gills with clothing from the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Hugo Boss, Fendi, Chanel, and of course, Prada. There are appearances by models Gisele Bündchen and Bridget Hall, designer Valentino Garavani, the only designer to be featured within the movie. It also happens to be styled by the legendary Patricia Field.

MTV is playing The Devil Wears Prada twice on Sunday, first at 1 p.m. EST, and once again at 8 p.m. EST.

To get you ready, we rounded up our favorite quotes from the film.

1. “Can you please spell ‘Gabbana’?”

2. “I’m sorry, do you have some prior commitment?”

“Some hideous skirt convention you have to go to?”

3. “You sold your soul to the devil when you put on your first pair of Jimmy Choos. I saw it.”

4. “Don’t make me feed you to one of the models.”

5. “Oh, nevermind. I’m sure you have plenty more polyblend where that came from.”

Emily Ratajkowski On ‘Gone Girl’ Nudity: ‘I Felt Like I Was With Family’

by 3 mins ago

You probably know Emily Ratajkowski from the “Blurred Lines” video, but if you see “Gone Girl” this weekend, you’ll see her in her biggest movie role to date.

Related: The Story Behind ‘Gone Girl’s Most Insane Scene

You’ll also see a lot of her. Like, physically.

Ratajkowski told us that the nudity didn’t faze her because of how comfortable everyone was on set.

“It was a small, closed set,” she said. “Everyone, we had been in Missouri for several weeks together. It felt like I was with family almost. You’re in character, so it doesn’t feel personal.”

“Gone Girl” is in theaters now.

Writer/editor for MTV. If it involves cowboys, spies, or hitmen, I'm there. All three would be ideal.

The End Of An Era: Goodbye, Saturday Morning Cartoons

by 14 mins ago

“Tom and Jerry.” “Scooby-Doo.” “The Smurfs.” “Charlie Brown.” “G.I.Joe.” “Ghostbusters.” “DuckTales.” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” Whether you watched these shows fresh or in syndication, they’re synonymous with bed head, pajamas and endless bowls of cereal.

We’re talking Saturday morning cartoons – and as of last weekend, the era of languidness animated from 8:00am to noon has come to an end.

On Saturday, September 27, 2014 the CW aired the last remaining Saturday morning cartoon block – effectively ending a continuous animated reign that spanned over 50 years. The competition from other networks airing live-action shows, along with failing viewership, were just too much for the network – they replaced the block with a series of educational shows aimed at teenagers.

So what did Saturday morning cartoons in? It’s been a slow decline – starting in the 1990s. As the Washington Post reports, NBC was the first network to make the switch from cartoons to teen comedies (“Saved by the Bell,” anyone?) on Saturday morning. It didn’t take long for ABC and CBS to follow.

Additionally, viewership fell sharply between the 1980s – when the sacred lazy Saturday tradition pulled in up to 20 million viewers – and the 2000s, when hit shows were lucky to nab 2 million. Throw in the rise of cable television, along with streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, and the impending end of an era was ushered.

We’re smarting right in the nostalgia over this one – it’s inconceivable that generations of kids will now wake on ...

Get Out The Champagne, Drake Just Broke A Record Previously Held By The Beatles

by 1 min ago

The Beatles are such an iconic force in pop culture that when current artists break records the Fab Four set, it always feels like an important landmark. So that’s why it feels extra important that thanks to his remix of ILoveMakonnen’s “Tuesday,” Drake just passed the Beatles for number of singles to be featured on Billboard Hot 100.

The “Tuesday” remix hit number 90 on that chart, so it comes in at number 72 for Drake, passing the Beatles’ 71 and putting him in eight place overall for all-time number of singles in that chart. His competition? “Glee” cast songs, Elvis, Lil Wayne, James Brown, Jay Z, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin. Not bad company to be in eh?

That list is in order, which means, yup “Glee” has the most entries in the Hot 100 of all time somehow with a whopping 207. Jay Z has 82, which doesn’t seem that out of reach for Drizzy at the rate he’s been going.

As for the song that helped him edge out the British quartet, we might have found out earlier this week why this song goes down soooo smooth. Plus, it’s Makonnen’s first-ever appearance on the chart, which seems like a fitting counterpoint to Drake’s record. Champagne, anyone?

31 Ways to Live Every Day Like A ‘Bob’s Burgers’ Kid

by 37 mins ago

The hilarious and wacky Belcher family returns for season five of “Bob’s Burgers” on October 5 – hopefully with more songs, butt jokes and food puns galore.

What set’s the cartoon apart from the likes of “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” is that the kids act like kids- and they’re each uniquely awesome. Even though Tina is the oldest, she’s far from your typical bratty teenage character. Louise is the sharpest (yet somewhat psychotic) 9 year –old. And Gene is always there to protect his siblings. While they’re just children, there’s a lot we can learn from them. They embrace their weirdness, defy gender roles and live every day bombastically.

“Bob’s Burgers” may be on just once a week, but here’s how to channel your inner Belcher kid, every single day:

1. Embrace your true self (of the day).

2. Ooze confidence.

3. But remember, we’re all flawed humans.

4. Browse obscure Wikipedia pages so your threats sound educated and scary.

5. Give your siblings a little encouragement.

6. And always stand by each other.

7. No matter what the request.

8. Click it or ticket!

9. Write some creative essays and “Friend Fiction” at school.

10. Explore unconventional careers.

11. Stand up for gender equality.#HeForShe

12. As well as LGBT rights.

13. Treat yourself, but don’t eat to drown your feelings.

14. Remember to send your parents a thoughtful message.

Watch The Bizarre Video Andy Milonakis Made For ILoveMakonnen’s ‘Too Much’

by 4 mins ago

What would you do if you were a 38-year-old former MTV star with an ear for weird rap and a lot of time on your hands? Sell real estate? Do voice-overs in Japan? Of course not. You’d paint your face like ILoveMakonnen’s famous doll and record an unsettling video about buying skittles with hundred dollar bills.

Andy Milonakis released his “original concept video” for iLoveMakonnen’s “Too Much” without warning this afternoon and in it, he seems to have achieved the impossible: he’s made ILoveMakonnen’s already loopy universe seem even weirder, without dipping into overt, unfunny parody.

While he’s clearly having a laugh, Milonakis respects the song’s goofy-yet-romantic tone: he stares at the camera on the brink of tears, the red clownish painted smile contrasting with his still-youthful pout.

Related: Drake Signed ILOVEMAKONNEN To OVO Sound

Milonakis’ odyssey begins when he enters a convenience store and throws a wad of cash at the register, and loads up on Skittles. The rest of the video concerns his relationship with a young woman who initially rebuffs him, before finally comforting the disconsolate protagonist in a bathtub. It’s a love story for the ages.

While Makonnen wasn’t involved in making the video, Milonakis made clear in the Youtube description that he signed off: “I spoke to Makonnen about doing a video to one of his songs, he gave me the green light,” Andy wrote. “Not sure he expected a full music video, but I hope he is pleased with the outcome. I have permission from ...

Future Embraces His Inner Demons In The NSFW ‘Monster’ Video

by 14 mins ago

Early mixtapes like Astronaut Status and his signature hit like “Turn On The Lights” gave Future the enduring reputation as a devoted space-age robot lover with a soul pure as a dove. While that element is certainly present in his repertoire, Future Hendrix knows how to play several tunes.

His latest video for “Monster,” a song MTV premiered back in August, finds him ditching his sweet persona for something more, well, monstrous: he’s a heartless player, reveling in hedonism.

Gone are the sky-scraping autotune paeans to a life partner. Future’s embracing the colder parts of his identity, rejecting limits and social mores and he’s never seemed less interested in monogamy—all this along to the swooping synth flute-driven tune comes courtesy of Metro Boomin and Southside.

The video matches the sentiment: Future reigns over a rowdy mansion party, girls wearing nothing but thongs and body paint lining the halls. Someone brings a snake. Metro Boomin dances in the kitchen. Black lights add slightly mystical overtones. Future is clearly having his “Eyes Wide Shut” moment.

Mark your calendars: on October 28th Future releases his Monster mixtape, executive produced by Metro Boomin.
