#TBT: Which ‘Teen Wolf’ Star Saved The World In ‘Mortal Kombat’?

by 11 mins ago

If you thought keeping the township of Beacon Hills safe was a tough task, imagine the pressure of having to save the world against an other-wordly, four-armed monster. We’ll leave it to the pros, thankyouverymuch.

LindenMK

But Linden Ashby — aka the famed Sheriff Stilinski on “Teen Wolf” — has no problem fighting evildoers. In 1995, he took on the role of movie star Johnny Cage in “Mortal Kombat,” a film adaptation of the insanely popular eponymous video game. And so, in honor of #TBT, we thought we’d take a little look back at his role.

In “MK,” Cage, who was perceived to be a little soft by Hollywood media standards, got the chance to prove himself when he was thrust into an inter-galactic battle. The character was one of three warriors handpicked by the god of lightning, Raiden, to stave off the evil Outworld from winning a 10th successive Mortal Kombat tournament. The victory would mean the wicked Emperor Shao Kahn would gain control of Earth, and naturally, our Ashby wasn’t ready to let that happen.

After many gruesome battles, Cage successfully KO’d Prince Goro and secured peace for humankind (as if he would settle for any less). Check out the flick’s biggest battle below, tell us if you remember seeing Ashby in “Mortal Kombat” and stay tuned to MTV News for more “Teen Wolf” updates!

‘Bill And Ted 3′ Will Have Some More Familiar Faces — If It Ever Happens

by 21 mins ago

For the past few years, pretty much every interview with Keanu Reeves has come with a question about the ever-changing status of “Bill & Ted 3.” In that time, the proposed sequel has come from not happening to happening and back again.

When MTV most recently spoke to Reeves for his new action movie “John Wick,” the actor’s “BT3 Meter” was still pointing to “not happening.”

“It’s closer to happening, but not happening,” he said. “We’re fighting the good fight.”

At this point, we know there’s a story in place if a third “Bill and Ted” ever were to happen, and Reeves did offer up this tease for fans who are eager for an update on the lives of Ted “Theodore” Logan and Bill S. Preston, Esq.

The princesses will return.

“We’re married. The marriage is falling apart,” Reeves said. “Bill and Ted, they’re busy. They’re trying to write the song that saves the world.”

As for that other potential Reeves sequel you may have heard about: it doesn’t sound like “Speed 3″ is happening.

“That sounds like it was made out of inter-air,” Reeves said.

Texas’ First Trans Homecoming King Gives Laverne Cox ‘Hope’

by 25 mins ago

Stephen F. Austin High School went down in the Texas history books when they voted senior Mel Gonzales homecoming king last month, making him the first openly transgender student to wear the crown.

For trans trailblazer Laverne Cox, stories like Gonzales’ are heartwarming. When MTV News caught up with the transgender actress and force behind the October 17 documentary “The T Word”, she shared her thoughts on the newly named king.

“Over the past several years there have been several trans folks who have been named homecoming kings and queens at their high schools and that’s pretty awesome,” the “Orange Is the New Black” star said. “Whenever I hear stories like that it gives me so much hope that there is — that we are creating a world that excepts people as themselves.”

Is Punk Dead? We Asked Joan Jett

by 31 mins ago

Next time someone shows you a photo of a celebrity wearing a Black Flag shirt or a studded dog collar from Hot Topic and declares punk to be “dead,” just whip out MTV News’ brand-new interview with Joan Jett. This will silence ‘em faster than a particularly rowdy crowd-surfer’s boot to the head.

MTV News caught up with the iconic musician — best known for classics like “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “Bad Reputation” — at a red carpet event for The Foo Fighters‘ new HBO documentary series, “Sonic Highways,” which premieres this week ahead of their record by the same name. In the series, Dave Grohl and Co. travel around the country, telling the stories behind eight cities’ music scenes and interviewing and collaborating with musicians like Jett.

Related: Rock ‘N’ Roll Is Not Dead — Here’s Living Proof

I got a peek at the first two episodes of the series, which feature a ton of info about the birth and proliferation of punk in America, so when I came face-to-face with the legend herself, I decided to ask Jett what she thinks of the state of the genre today.

I won’t spoil anything here. Just watch her answer over and over again. I’ll give you a minute — or 60.

Billboard Featuring Giant Breasts Causes Over 500 Car Crashes

by 4 mins ago

Say what you will about the risks of self-driving cars, but no robot has ever been told, “Eyes up here, buster.”

Recently, the Russian advertising company AdvTruck pioneered the concept of placing billboards on 30 vehicles and driving them through Moscow traffic. It “represents a new and effective advertising format — advertising on the sides of city trucks,” the company’s site explains. “Such a format is a budget alternative to billboards in the city!”

That would simply be obnoxious in most circumstances — not insanely dangerous — except AdvTruck chose this somewhat distracting image for its trial run:

boob-tweet

According to the Daily Mail, Moscow police had to respond to 517 accidents. The advertisement’s text apparently says “They Attract,” but that play on words was supposed to mean customers, not ambulances. And the company is promising to reimburse drivers for any costs that insurance won’t cover.

We were a little skeptical of this report, because boob-related news (much like, uh, y’know) can be too good to be real. So we phoned AdvTruck. The guy who answered could only talk for half a minute — we’re guessing he has a few calls from lawyers right now — but confirmed, “Yes, yes, it’s true,” adding, “We have some problems, but it’s OK now.”

We then asked if anybody had been seriously injured. “It’s not big crashes but small crashes,” he said.

Good to know. Then again, you’ve gotta die somehow, and — many guys would agree ...

How ‘Arrow’ And ‘Gotham’ Crossed Over – And Why It’ll Never Happen Again

by 4 mins ago

We’ve already speculated on MTV News that Warner Bros. and DC’s “Gotham” and “Arrow” – despite being on separate networks – could be participating in some sort of stealth crossover. Both are based on DC Comics, both share producers and heck: it would just be pretty cool.

But despite all our hoping and wishing, sorry fans… The crossover ain’t happening.

To give a bit of background, the second episode of “Gotham” aired on FOX on September 29, and it caused a bevy of speculation. First of all, the two shows (two including “Arrow“) share a villain named The Dollmaker, one who — from the comics at least — could exist in two timelines simultaneously: “Gotham” takes place in the “past,” and “Arrow” in the “present.”

But the bigger piece of evidence? In one shot of the Gotham City skyline, eagle-eyed fans glimpsed the Queen Consolidated logo… Indicating that “Arrow” main character Oliver Queen (or perhaps his father) might have an outpost on Batman’s future turf.

Queen Consolidated GothamWarner Bros.

Given the “Gotham” episode had just aired, when MTV News talked to “Arrow” Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim over the phone, we asked how the sneak crossover came about.

“You know, it’s a great question!” Guggenheim said. “The internet did point out to me the Queen Consolidated [logo] – or what looked like a Queen consolidated Easter egg. I’m still actually trying to find out how intentional that was. Let me just say the investigation is ongoing.”

Why Does One Direction Have ‘Stockholm Syndrome’?

by 8 mins ago

Someone is holding One Direction captive — and they kind of like it. Or, you know, at least it seems that way given the title of track #11 on their upcoming record: “Stockholm Syndrome.” Yup, the dudes just released the tracklist for Four today and there is was — nestled among “Spaces” and “Clouds.” Patty Hearst all the way.

Stockholm syndrome, defined by Merriam-Webster, is “the psychological tendency of a hostage to bond with, identify with, or sympathize with his or her captor.” It was coined as such after a bank robbery in Sweden in which bank employees developed sympathy for the dudes holding up the bank.

We’re guessing 1D’s new track isn’t about literal Stockholm Syndrome — just like “Steal My Girl” and “Fireproof” aren’t about larceny and flame retardant materials. The jam is probably about being in some girl’s thrall and being OK with it. Or, you know, they could be being held captive by the below…

Since “Fight Club” first came out fifteen years ago and vaulted Brad Pitt and Ed Norton to superstardom, pretty much everyone has violated its first rule. People still can’t stop talking about it.

But we decided to honor the David Fincher classic by showing, not telling, and came up with this hard-hitting supercut of every single punch that was thrown in the movie.

And don’t worry: we won’t tell anyone if you talk about it.

Lupe Fiasco Has The Internet On His Side: The Story Behind His New Testuo & Youth Release Date Proves It

by 1 min ago

Just this week, Lupe Fiasco was complaining that his album was stuck in limbo, as his label, Atlantic Records, was refusing to release it as they looked for a single.

Suddenly, he has one: January 20, 2015.

The apparent story behind how that release date came into existence isn’t the stuff of normal Artist vs. Record Label tug-of-war. The Internet’s most prominent group of hacktivists, Anonymous, are claiming responsibility for pressuring Atlantic into giving the Chicago rapper’s sixth solo album a date.

The group, which is known for using the Internet to take on a variety of political issues, also released a statement on the issue:

Citizens of the World and lovers of conscious music,
We are Anonymous.

24 hours ago we released a short Twitter ultimatum. We called upon record label Atlantic Records, responsible for releasing conscious rap artist Lupe Fiasco’s long awaited Album. We demanded a statement from the label within 24 hours to release a date or we would unleash the complete and utter fury of our collective on their company and executives. 21 hours later they released a short Tweet citing the album and it’s release date.

At this time it can be concluded that we have proved our point. We wish music that is educating the masses to keep being released. We will fight for that. Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common and others are the moving force behind conscious rap. This is music we will fight for.

Operation Atlantic, Operation Free Lupe; disengaged.
Mission Accomplished.

We are Anonymous.
