9 Reasons Every Rap Fan Should Take Advantage Of De La Soul’s Valentine’s Giveaway

De La Soul sure do love their fans. On Friday (February 14), the veteran Long Island, New York, hip-hop trio announced they'd be giving the bulk of their catalog away for free online — but with a twist.

The trio are celebrating 25 years in the game, and you can download as much of their catalog as you want on WeAreDeLaSoul.com for the next 25 hours, beginning Friday at 11 a.m. ET. That includes hits from their March 1989 debut LP, 3 Feet High and Rising.

"It's about allowing our fans who have been looking and trying to get a hold of our music to have access to it," De La Soul rapper Posdnuos told RollingStone.com on Thursday. "It's been too long where our fans haven't had access to everything. This is our way of showing them how much we love them."

It's an unprecedented move that every rap fan should take advantage of because, well, it doesn't cost you anything. Still, if free music doesn't motivate you, here are 8 more reasons why you should download De La.

Tupac Was A Fan
Yes, we know Tupac went pretty hard at De La on "Against All Odds," but who didn't he dis? Before he went all Thug Life on East Coast MCs, 'Pac admitted he was a De La Soul fan and even shouted them out on his 1995 track "Old School."

De La Did 'Who Shot Ya' Before Biggie
Two years before the Notorious B.I.G. went digging in the crates to turn David Porter's 1971 classic "I'm Afraid ...

Get An Exclusive First Look At This ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Action Figure

With Toy Fair hitting New York this weekend, the veil will be lifted on some of 2014's most anticipated movies, including "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." But even if you're not heading to New York, MTV News has the hook-up: we're pleased to exclusively bring you your first look at NECA's "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" action figure for bad-boy bonobo Koba.

A major player in the first movie, Koba's short temper and traumatic upbringing brought him into conflict with the heroic ape Caesar, though Koba ultimately followed him to the ape's safe haven by the end of the film. We don't know exactly where Koba will be (emotionally and physically) in the sequel, though rumors have him coming into conflict with Caesar. Given our look at the figure here, it certainly seems like Koba is ready for war.

NECA has also provided us with the official description for the figure, which will be released in May. Exact price is TBD, though it will somewhere in the range of $18-$22.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - 7" Scale Action Figures -- Series 1
These detailed action figures come straight from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the highly anticipated sequel to 2011′s Rise of the Planet of the Apes! A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier.

They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink ...

Debby Ryan’s ‘Taylor Swift’-like Album One Gets A Summer Release Date

She may have a hit Disney series under her belt, but like many that have come before her, Debby Ryan, is now taking the leap into music.

However, unlike some of her Disney predecessors, Ryan is opting for rock, instead of pop, by forming the band, Debby Ryan and the Never Ending. On Friday (February 14), it was announced that her debut album, One, will be released June 24. According to Billboard, the album will be nine tracks. The band will create video content leading up to the release.

Back in December, Ryan co-hosted with MTV News for It was there that she told us to expect a first single in April, and that her upcoming effort is a bit of a mix of all genres.

"It's like if Mumford and Sons and The Lumineers and Katy Perry and Taylor Swift and the White Stripes all had a weird indie-rock-blues-folk baby," Ryan said. "It's very cool. It's a little bit rock and roll which is great."

Ryan revealed that the album has been a "couple years in the making," which resulted in hundreds of songs being written that show her growth not only as an artist, but as a young woman.

"It's very much that journey and the flip-side of that all the things people see, the sitcom and the kids show," Ryan said. "But I'm a 20-year-old woman and I'm growing and dealing with all sorts of things and this is really chronicling that. So 2014 is probably the most personal year, yet and the scariest..."

Forgot Valentine’s Day? You’re Not The Only One, Facebook Says

It's Valentine's Day and your mind is skint when it comes to plans for the big night. Well, have no fear — the digital world is offering up some solace and solutions Friday (February 14) courtesy of Facebook and Google.

First of all, Facebook is out with a fun little report featuring data about Valentine's Day and how it relates to its more than one billion users. One stat, in particular, should provide some comfort to those Johnny Come Latelys out there: one third of users start planning the big night one week before the day and, in addition. 28% of women and 37% of men buy gifts or book plans on the day of.

So if you're still deciding between a big teddy bear and an even bigger teddy bear, well, you're not alone. Still, I suggest getting with the rose-laden program ASAP, as 1.9 million people changed their relationship status within a week of Valentine's Day in 2013 (150,000 to "engaged") and you don't want to revert to "single."

For those looking to send their beaux a virtual missive of love pre-date, Google has some pretty adorable digital cards queued up. Simply navigate to the homepage and click "Share a special moment with your Valentine today" under the search bar, and you'll be taken to the homepage of short Disney film "Blank," the tale of two mice on a quest to define themselves through love.

There, you can send stills from the flick — complete with personalized messages -- to your Valentine.

Google's Doodle is also sure ...

Austin Mahone Gets Romantic On Valentine’s Day With ‘U’

Austin Mahone has a very special Valentine's Day for "U."

At 4 p.m. ET today (February 14), the pop star will be sit down for an exclusive 30-minute MTV.com interview as part of the special series. He'll give us the scoop on his Valentine's Day plans and take questions from fan in our live studio audience and all of you tuning in (just remember to tweet MTVBuzzworthy using the hashtag #AskAustin).

But that's not the only VDay treat Austin had been planning: After teasing Mahomies that he had a surprise on the way, the pop star released a brand-new, midtempo love jam called "U" on Friday — just in time for the romantic holiday.

Austin noticeably slows things down for the sweet track, a departure from his most recent single, which was about a girl he would do just about anything for.

Halfway through "U," Mahone flexes those Cash Money rap muscles and shows off some rhymes too. "I remember us sitting up late in my one-bedroom apartment/ Memories running through my head, head, head/ You're the only one that I want, if you were to leave me/ I don't know what I would do instead," he raps.

If the song sounds familiar to devoted Mahomies, it's because you may have heard it before. Mahone has been teasing the track for some time, and an acoustic version of the song landed on the Internet last year and the 17-year-old has performed it at some of his concerts.

But since it's the most romantic day of the year, ...

Eli Roth Launches His New Horror App, ‘The Crypt’

Eli Roth loves horror and he wants the world to know it with his new app, 'The Crypt.' The social horror app — which soft launched in December, but officially launches today — is available for free in the iTunes store, and will allow horror fans all over the world to share... Well, everything. As long as it's scary.

"We wanted to create that one app that would be ground zero for horror," Roth told us over in the phone in advance of the app's official release. "I wanted a place where aspiring filmmakers, artists and people with an interest in horror could have that mobile horror experience, which I don't think anyone has created yet."

The app isn't just a place to rate and create original horror content; it's also a hub that connects to other non-horror focused social media outlets, from Instagram, to Tumblr, to Twitter and more. Rather than just posting a horror video on YouTube and hoping the right people see it, this is a way of directing the content to the right people in the right way.

"It's a strange thing to love horror, because nobody wants to say, 'Oh, I love watching people's heads get chopped off,' " Roth continued. "The in person experience is going to a convention, and part of the fun of it, as you're connecting with the people who have the same interest for all this weird stuff... We've been able to build experience for horror fans that are global to have a horror convention in your hand."

Possibly even scarier than the ...
